Dagan takes a look at the sleek and stylish Fender Player Series Jaguar guitars which replace the made in Mexico guitars for 2018.
The new Fender Player Series Jaguar guitar is the ultimate grunge guitar offering a huge sound from the all new Fender Player Series pickups which includes a humbucking bridge pickup and one single-coil Jaguar neck pickup. You can isolate these pickups, use the slide switch to coil-split the humbucking bridge pickup or bust out the huge tones by combining them together.
The new “Modern C” shaped neck profile is extremely comfortable to play which ensures you can enjoy playing your guitar knee deep into a 3-hour gig or well into the recording phase in the studio.
This is a fantastic guitar for those who want the classic Fender sound, playability and performance without breaking the bank.

These are coil split, not tapped. The latter is the full humbucker with less winds, while splitting, literally splits the coils and is why it generally sounds thinner/weaker and not really like a true/regular single coil.
@IanOPadrick
@IanOPadrick 2 года назад
I think, if someone were to be REALLY PEDANTIC, they could argue that splitting the coil *technically* cuts those coils, so every split is a cut but not every cut is a split. But you'd need to find a true pedant to make that argument.

Looks like they fixed all of the problems on the Jaguar and it sounds pretty good too. Even if the tuning seems to hold up, I would change both the synthetic nut and the string tree for a graphite Tusq. For my own preference, I would also replace the tuners for the vintage ones. So for a small amount of about 100$ CAD, I could make this guitar become top notch!

Im curious of the routing underneath if it is a regular Jaguar rout in the upper horn it could conceivable be a very modifiable design. I slobber at the thought it my be routed HH.

Estevan G. Other than what I previously wrote, I would change the humbucker pickup for a Seymour Duncan JB and I would swap the single coil alnico 2 pickup for an alnico 5 with a late 60’s vibe. This would give me some solid rock tones like Nirvana and Hendrix. If you like the sound as is, keep it default but I would definitely match the pickups for your preference. Cheers!

@leopoldbluesky
@leopoldbluesky 4 года назад
Nothing to be nervous about, my Squier VM Jag is more stable than many Strats I've played. Mind you, I did replace the bridge with a Staytrem, and while I was at it replaced the pots with CTS ones. Now it feels like a £600 guitar. This Player model should be spot on!

Played one of these in PMT earlier today. I really, REALLY hoped I was going to like it. Short slinky scale length, with a nice versatile mix of Jag-type single and a splittable humbucker...and a vibrato that makes everything sound surfy. I was really looking forward to trying it out. I hope it was just really badly set up. Buzzing, twanging 1st and 6th strings that slapped against the bridge pickup when I did anything more than the lightest fingerpicking, and occasionally - but unpredictably - just vibrated unpleasantly. I could feel it trying to be a lovely guitar, I really could, but it just wasn't. "This is how guitars come to us from Fender!" said the chap in the store as he furtively wrangled with the saddles. "There you go, that should be OK now..." It wasn't. Once again, I hope it just needed a better setup, and I will try again...but having had great experiences with other guitars in the same store which just felt blissful the second I got my fingers on them - even though they weren't what I thought I wanted - well, this did make me a wee bit wary.

Jaguars have a 24" scale length where other Fender models use 25.5". Drop D you'd be ok, but drop C may be a challenge with that shorter scale length and shallow break angle due to the tremolo. Thicker strings could resolve the issue though.
