Just to say I think the new format of mixing bike spec with riding impressions is much better than previous format.

Yes some other videos have too much handlebar footage at 30mph. Eg fireblade stuck behind a van… so a mix of viewpoints is more interesting. The 360 cam is good too. I know other youtubers do the speed work so the off bike stuff may be your strength.👍😎

Another great review Andy. I took a ‘14 plate GS out for test yesterday and had your voice in my head reviewing it like you do as I rode through the Oxfordshire countryside! I even stopped and took photos of it FFS. Picking it up Saturday from North Oxford Motorrad and trading in my ‘05 GS. Love the outtakes mate.

You are doing a really good job. I am not in the market to change my bike, but when others tell me they are looking, you are the one I refer them to as reliable, truthful and knowledgable. You "groc" and have a feeling for bikes that belies your relatively recent introduction to them (I am now in my 53rd continuous year of daily licensed road riding).

I've said this before and I'll say this again: it's not the lack of the trellis frame missing that has me upset. I'm glad the monster has lost so much weight tbh. But it's the budget suspension with 0 adjustment that's annoying. It's a ducati in 2021, man. Should have had adjustability, especially for the price they're charging.

Very nice vid. I particularly liked the back & forth editing between the riding footage & walk around. Only criticism is that it was a bit short but I understand the circumstances probably didn't allow for more. As for the bike, I do like it but I'm a little put off that it has no suspension adjustability as rarely do I find standard suspension settings to my liking & I enjoy having a tinker to fine tune them.

An interesting fact, the monster designer, Galluzzi was working for honda when he sketched the design, he eventually ended up a cagiva and was given access to parts and an assistant to do a prototype. The monster hit big and pulled ducati out of a hole. The story is well worth a read.

Nice review, 👍🏻 I test rode this a couple of months ago and liked it a lot. I actually chose the new MT09SP which I found to be just a little bit more, all-round .I do get the Ducati vibe though, there’s also the 890R or the Street triple, such great choices in this segment now I don’t think you can go to far wrong.

Just found this review after owning one for almost a year and put 6k miles in it. I’m a bit of a Ducati fan boy having had a Hypermotard 1100S for 96k but the new one is too tall which is why I went for the new Monster. Love it. An excellent real world bike that commutes, scratches and a bit of light touring. I get some miss the frame but I never found the old monster particularly comfy - looks good mind 👍🏻

Loved the looks apart from the front mudguard which looked about as much use as a chocolate teapot. The rear hugger didn't look like it was doing much to keep the crud off the rear shock either but that's true with most bikes these days.

Great vid Andy. For me, big, light’ish, V-twin nakeds are ideal for British roads; just a load of fun and piggin’ quick with it…….and a bit more ‘character’ than a Triumph Triple. I preferred the trellis frame tbh but I suppose it’s progress for weight & cost. Great looking bike and hopefully they’ll sell a few! Corsaro ZZ next please! 👍

Nice bike, Andy. I bought a Ducati SuperSport S, and love riding it. Same engine as the Monster. I replaced the rear end with a tail tidy as you suggested. Mine is a 2020,, but wish I bought a 2021, to get the new TFT screen, as mine is hard to see. The mirrors are too narrow to see past my shoulders. All in all a good bike, but not superb.

Love the tech info interspersed with the on board stuff, great format! Not my kind of bike but, like that TFT and the mounting angle, like the mirrors, like the colours, hate the master cylinders - why can't they both be in front or behind the bars? Look like an afterthought the way they are!! Plus of course hate the Volvo carpark!! Also I love the general lightweight flickability, it's one of the bikes that I'd much rather ride than look at!!

Thanks for the video. Insightful, as always. Any plans to get one of these on a long term loan? It is tempting me as a potential replacement next year if I decide to pull the trigger and I've always trusted your reviews. Surprised that you didn't include the Street Triple in this comparison. Similar power, similar weight and similar cost. Sure, the displacement is not the same but that doesn't really matter nowadays imo.

It's cool that you change up the videos by editing in small clips of you standing next to the bike and then editing back. It gets a bit formulaic after a while to go for a ride, then go off and walk around it, and then riding again. Does it have cruise control? At least it has a fuel gauge this time around so that's always something... Mind-boggling that it didn't have one previously

Lots of other people saw us looking, and they also stopped to watch it travel round the curve of the road, with the suspension bridge in the background. It was a magical moment and a legendary bike. Nice review Andy! It's odd I haven't seen more reviews of this bike yet. A couple of things that I have noted on this bike. The headlight apparently (dipped beam) doesn't come on unless it's dark? Resulting in flicking headlights when you go into and out of darker areas! (I don't have one, but I saw a review that stated this. It was in America, where I live though) Also, in the US, the indicators can't do that fancy 'growing' effect due to legal requirements so they are just ON/OFF here. Might be something to check on with the European version of the bike you have. Cheers! -Alan.

Interesting! The front light was on the whole time for this euro spec bike as far as I can tell…

If it’s the same as other Ducatis, then the DRLs are on all the time and the dipped headlights come on automatically in dark areas. If you want to change that, you just turn it from automatic. Not strange though, the last three cars I’ve had also do this.
@Desmo904
@Desmo904 2 года назад
@@aunoates6617 That was what I meant really. The DRL's are on all the time but the dipped light comes on when the lights detect it's dark enough. In the review I saw the dipped lights flicked on/off as they rode under trees.

@@Desmo904 Yes, that’s what happens . I can see in Chase’s review that the USA version also has the TMF friendly single dedicated button (just below the starter switch) to change to continuous main beam.

Hello sir, if you could have only 1 bike = between the Triumph Trident or the Honda CB650r or the new Ducati Monster plus here, what is your choice please? Mainly fun factor first and weekend rides or before work and commute please? Thank you love your work!

I know we’re not supposed to question the Ducati design house, but to my eye they’ve just been making monsters worse looking for the past … well nearly 15 years. At least Suzuki realised their mistake and after following Ducati down the gladiator road switched the style of suzi monster back to the traditional styling. Who’d have thought the SV650 would end up being the better looking monster? Tbh it’s also the one I’d actually buy
@78Outlaw
@78Outlaw 2 года назад
First Monster was a design classic, the loss of the trellis is a big mistake, when you see MV still using for the Brutale or KTM for the SuperDuke, a big mistake imo, might add the old Ltwin Des 1200 was a 145hp brute… so 111hp leaves me cold.

@@78Outlaw the 111 is ok you don’t need a lot of power although my monster has 132 at the wheel. For me it is the just inevitably of luxury brands appealing to the masses. Ducati is more of a lifestyle brand than a passionate enthusiast brands these days. However it’s the same for everything. There is always more money by appealing to more people than by appealing to a narrow niche except in exceptional cases

A while back I saw an online add for a '93 monster in yellow, oh lordy she was a beauty, not insipid like the new model. I'm sure the new model is better in every way except looks and price though.

My Multistrada 1200 DVT definitely chugs a bit before it starts, even when I put a Shorai LFX battery in it. But, as you say, it always starts.

That is really a monster one grotesque looking monster ,visual evidence of what is new & modern isn’t necessary always better .Front mudguard looks about as much practical use as a chocolate teapot ,the rear end needs a lot more than a tail tidy ,like the bike it needs totally re- designing altogether .It’s a pity really as Ducati once designed some tasty solid looking machines .

Like the new format, though I’m sure it’s harder to edit together. Bike sounds amazing but Ducati still build their bikes like the Lloyd’s building - all the plumbing on the outside.

I'd be interested to hear how you think this compares to the Speed Twin. I realise they are different bikes but they would both serve the same purpose for me. The Monster I perceive as better value given all the electronics but I don't ride particularly fast and wonder if the ST would have more character?

Is it just me ? I don’t think it can be a Ducati Monster without the look of the Monster trellis frame ? Would a GS be a GS without Telelever? I thought the previous frame was beautiful. Maybe I’m getting old, but this isn’t a “looker” is it ?

I wonder if the scrambler will follow this ‘platform’ change. It needs an upgrade to water cooled non desmo at some point as the heat coming off the scrambler is bad and throttle is jerky …but yep that gives it a lot of ‘character’. I am trading mine for a trident but will miss the meaty sound of Ducati with terminognis 👍😎

What does desmo valve have anything to do with heat? Or the the engine being air-cooled? I'd rather have an air-cooled bike.

The Monster is popular for Ducati for the same reason as the Sportster is for Harley. Cheapest way to get the name on the tank. Nothing wrong with that either.

Well the last one I purchased was from Ducati Croydon and they were excellent - but the bike is serviced by my local Ducati dealer (On yer bike in Aylesbury) who offer excellent service, so I'd likely go there.....
