Spoiler Alert - Nissan has hit it out of the park with the new 2021 Nissan Rogue. Competitors in this class include the Toyota RAV4, Honda CR-V, Mazda CX-5, Hyundai Tucson, Volkswagen Tiguan, Chevrolet Equinox, Kia Sportage.
I have a 2012 Nissan Sentra S with over 207,000 miles on it. Never had an issue with the original CVT. I changed the fluid every 60,000 miles as required in the owner’s manual. Nissan is capable to be reliable as Toyota and Honda. You haters should learn how to read a manual and drive a car properly and you won’t have any problems long term.
I agree most people don’t change the transmission fluid, but Nissan does have a history of transmission failures even when the fluid is changed, luckily they do cover a lot of them out of warranty up to 200,000 miles, I am a mechanic and I haven’t seen a lot of failures in the Sentras as it was the rogue and the Altima’s
@@kromahj Yeah I’ve heard so many rogues and altimas that have had the issue, but many of my friends who had them had it replaced under warranty even at 150-200k miles, so good for Nissan for taking care of a design flaw
Great review. Your enthusiasm really makes me eager to check it out. I thought rav4 was gonna be a slam dunk but now I'll have to see rogue first. Also, you have a beautiful family! Keep up great job!
Thanks for the thorough review. Funny, I have seen several Y-Tube reviews of this and some of them are "meh". However I appreciate your enthusiasm for this SUV after seeing all of the enhancements. Not just the "turn and burn" aspect of the vehicle. Thank you.
I just bought a new 21 Rogue SV Premium. I really like the floating console. really enjoyed this video. It was clear and highlighted many areas I had not yet learned about. Furthermore it makes me feel I made the right choice when I bought this. Thank you for this video. It is very genuine and easy to believe. Good job!! I still wish all new cars still carried CD players. You would certainly enjoy the music that I write with a CD player in the new Rogue. Of course it will take thumb drives so not all is lost. .
I see this review fair. I bought a SV trim weeks ago by trading in a 2016 model. It is totally a new vehicle. It is like a luxury car to me in terms of both its look inside and out and its driving performance. Plus, the autonomous driving function surpasses my expectation.
@Kelsey Duncan I do. Am still loving driving it. The features are great although I don't like the sensor stuff that tells you if you're going out of lane etc, I prefer to being in control always, so have those switched off. But those features are becoming more and more standard I guess and that's no reflection on the car itself. Only negative is that Apple Play doesn't always connect well when plugging into the usb, but that might just be my phone as well. Apart from that, I enjoy driving whenever I'm in it and this winter has seen me use the heated steering wheel and seats a lot. I'm warm very quickly.
This Rogue is the best so far and the best vehicle Nissan has made in a very long time after Sentra. It’s the best compact suv in the market. Solid, fully loaded and great value for money. Wish they had the 250hp turbo engine on it as an option. Really happy with the new direction taken by Nissan and looking forward excitedly towards the new, updated models from them.
I say, so long as the CVT problems are no more, and it very well might be fixed permanently now, and so long as the 3 cylinders hold up against the more concentrated power, and so long as the variable combustion system hold up, then I say yes, this might very well be better than all the other choices in this segment. CR-V is out because of its out of control theft problem and dealer arrogance. RAV4 is loud and too plastic fantastic. The VW is too anemic and also too hard plastic ish. CX-5 is too small with its tight rear legroom and silly narrow trunk and sloped and all. Also there is this hype how the CX-5 supposedly looks good, but imo it looks simple and outdated. The Rogue's front is a little too pickup truck like but otherwise it looks good from all angles. Interior is plush like the CX-5. Thing with reviews is that Nissan gives loaners to reviewers that is always always their higher model. It doesn't let us see the regular S or SV. Kia and Hyundai is out because of its unforgivable engine problems that is *NOT* fixed I predict. It's beyond their Theta disaster - look it up. It means the otherwise very nice Sportage, sorry to say, but it's a non starter (imo).
@@itskelseyduncan1483 hi. Yes still love it. No problems. I do regret not getting the platinum edition. It’s been a good size to cart home furniture and is very relaxing to drive on road trips. The quality has been good. My floor mats are a little over worn for it’s age but really no complaints. Gas mileage is not bad at all. 😊👍
So, two weeks ago I traded my 2012 Rogue SV (with 47k miles) in for a 2021 Platinum. It was a hard decision because of the low miles and nice to not have a car payment. I also had no mechanical issues whatsoever, because I properly maintain my vehicles. But I started think about it, and when I saw the incredible upgrade in styling and features, decided to go for it. Holy Cow - this new Rogue is AMAZING!! I feel like I left behind the Fred Flintstone Mobile for the Jetson's Spaceship!!! It is truly beautiful inside and out, and I have not even taken advantage of all the features yet. I got a great deal, and could not be happier!! Definitely pulled the trigger at the right time
What do you think about the 2021 seat comfort? How does it feel compared to your previous Rogue? I was sold on the zero gravity seat technology. But to be honest, I think I'm kinda disappointed. The seat is not soft enough, the cushions are not thick enough, and it doesn't feel like there is memory foam in it. Only looks nice due to the leather. But comfort wise, it's not much better than my 2018 Rogue. My 2020 Civic has softer seat cushions that feel like memory foam.
@@Ian-mv4qq I personally like the seats MUCH better. But I am a firm mattress person too. Agree, no memory foam feel and they are quite "ungiving". But I like them a lot. Definitely love the look. Might take some people some time to get used to them, but once you do, I think you'd agree. But, I rarely take long trips either - that might change my mind.
@@lindab2323 yeah I love the looks so much as well, and the acceleration is just so smooth, not sure if you care about it lol...my wife actual likes it not being able to accelerate 😂 We'll see a few months, hopefully the leather and cushion break in and become softer.
@@Ian-mv4qq So funny because I feel like the pickup is just fine merging onto Chicago expressways. And that's after having a 2007 305hp Infiniti G35. Maybe I have simply forgotten??? I hope you love it!! It's such a step up.
Great video! I'm torn between this, and the slightly more expensive 2021 Hyundai Santa Fe in the Calligraphy trim. This will get better mileage, but with the 2.5 turbo, and the wet DCT, the Santa Fe will be much more engaging. I currently own a 2007 Hyundai Sonata Limited that I purchased new and has only had to go to the shop for a non maintenance related issue just once when the AC compressor went out and cost me over $500 to replace; so I have been impressed with Hyundai's overall reliability. After 13 years, the engine is so quiet and smooth that I barely hear it running. That said, I'm still open to looking at other brands and vehicles, including the Rogue.
Nice review. Definitely the best looking Nissan now, no ugly Honda/Toyota like lines and triangles. It does look like the infinity. Any chance there is an upgraded turbo non-CVT version coming later?
Brian, 2021 Rogue Platinum trim or Santa Fe Ultimate trim? the new Santa Fe is not out yet but would love your input between the two when you finally drive the new hyundai.
Quietest vehicle I’ve owned…35 plus! Steering is nimble and maneuvering is excellent…sport mode tightens up steering and gives a nice boost to the acceleration!
The previous version of Rogue was VFM (Value for Money) and this one price range is bang with Honda CRV and Toyota RAV 4 which will be tough to compete.
Enjoyed your Rogue review. One Question: The lane keeping alert- Does it beep at you when you get to the lane line or does it shake the steering wheel like Honda CRV does? Thanks.
so a few things I think the platinum should of had mind you I have the same exact car. 1 LED LIGHTS INSIDE (including) license 2 ventilated seats for platinum because those summer days will brutal 3 movable back seats (gotten spoiled from my old rogue ) I personally think the ctv is ok I drive with cruise control and I don't speed like I use to since my job kept me under control in that department.
Do you know whether this model has door ajar waring if any door is open and we try lock the doors ? I had rogue 2020 which honk/hazard lights when I lock from remote key while all doors are closed, which helps to make sure all doors are closed. And it will not honk/hazard lights if any door is open. Recently I bought 2021 rogue which honk/hazard lights always regardless of whether all doors are closed or not.
Mr. Chow, You’re in Canada and we’re 40 miles northwest of Boston and are leaves are almost all gone. I have the feeling you’re Smitten with the New Rogue. It does appear nice. Remember the Telluride then the Palisade, the 2021 Sante Fe’ and then the 2021 HIghlander, your excitement has been high on all of these and now the Rogue. 😂 What was the MPG here?
It was about 26 mpg. Yes excited with all those vehicles. You forgot the RAV4 Prime. That would be my choice if you could get one, for non hybrid , this new Rogue would be my choice.
As you have reviewed both, would you choose this Nissan or the Mitsubishi Outlander? I currently have to make this decision and can't quite make up my mind. Thanks heaps in advance...
Enjoyed your review as always Brian. Would you pick this Rogue over a RAV4? Or how about the new Venza? Just curious. I really hope they can make a good hybrid version of this. Do you know if they plan to? Cheers & thank you
I was a Nissan fan, but watched from a distant, until now. I actually feel Nissan comeback will be from this Rouge, not the maxima (which I think can definitely use a change) or the altima (which I never understood, it's actually become bigger then the maxima in size - or at least that's how it looks) or the Murano (I don't know if I really like it). I actually test drove the sv model and am really sold. But I was in the market for tech and efficiency, so I'm actually holding out for rav4 prime. I still have to test drive it.
I like this new Rogue but I do wonder about the long-term reliability. This thing is really nice though, it has been well designed and it looks more like a premium branded vehicle now.
It’s night and day compared to the current version. They did an outstanding job. I can’t comment on long term reliability but I do know people that have previous versions and they’re all happy with them after many miles. So many people comment about the CVT not being reliable yet not one person I’ve known have ever had a problem. Perhaps in the early days but thing s change and things and problems get sorted out.
I’m between the RAV4 and the Platinum, is the power train making a big difference? I drove both and you are right.. the Rogue is quiet and smoother!!! What do you think???
@@EverydayReviews2022 not so distant past. One of the guys at work had last year CVT replaced on 4 year old Sentra at about 90k miles. I told him that the CVT in Sentra is the worst ever; he said he did not know....so he found out he hard way... I hope that Nissan management learned something from their CVT debacle and the current generation was seriously revised...
What do you think about applying undercoat to prevent rust ? The new Cars are designed to withstand Snow and Salt, Do you see a value in applying undercoat protection?
Depends where you live. Do you have bad winters and do they use slat or a brining liquid on the streets? If so then it would t be a bad idea as salt is always the big killer.
So why, why, why no ventilated seats in the platinum trim! I live in the south, and the summer is brutal with leather seats! Especially with the darker colors. Had a blue Rogue with the tan/black leather seats and even with the air on full blast took forever to cool. And yes, I always used a windshield sunscreen. I had a platinum pathfinder with the ventilated seats and it was wonderful. Traded for the better mileage with the Rogue. Worst mistake of my life. The Pathfinder could use some more updating, but if you don't mind the lower mileage it is a much more comfortable vehicle
30 seconds of stopping in traffic is not enough, it should be up to 5 minutes, or make it user adjustable. I really like to adaptive speed during cursing. With my 2018 Rouge, it scared me when I cruise at 70MPH when it approached a 30MPH curve !!! As a result, I don't use the cruise function that much within the city highway.
My girl just got a new Rogue SV without roof racks. She is really upset because they told her she couldn't get them with that model. Can someone tell me if they sell roof racks for the new 2021 Rogue, so I can surprise her? They made it sound like it wasn't possible.. Thanks guys...
The 2021 Nissan Rogue SV doesn’t come with the factory roof rails unless you get the premium package. Since it’s too late at this point, you can look into aftermarket crossbars. But since this car is new, you’ll want to confirm that it will fit.
Kind of no fair since the Prime is a PHEV. If the Rogue had a PHEV, then I think I may choose that but since it doesn’t, I’d pick the Thing is though, it’s super hard to get a Prime.
I was going back and forth between those two abs after I drove the Rogue SL that contest was over. The Rogue had more features than the Forster limited and I liked feeling elevated in the Rogue. The video screen blows away the Forester.
