I was looking for a backpack for 3-4 hours hiking. I was thinking getting an Osprey skimmer in the REI store this morning but they only carried red color. And the worker suggested this one to me instead. I was hestitating but I bought it because it is much much cheaper than the Osprey skimmer. Now I watched your video and learned more about it. I now feel that I made the right decision. Thanks.
Thank you so much for your wonderful review. This pack is currently on clearance and your review has shown me features that I didn't even know the pack had.
Just got this same exact pack. Bought it in the store over a black one. Because of the grey color under the store lights. But out in the sun its a blue color and switches on light available. Those hoops on the side and back are a plus for snugging things up if you get some cord
Great review and comparison to the prior version (which I have)! This is a superb travel backpack, especially when paired w (Eagle Creek EC45L) duffle bag (packed inside if 1bag limit), and one of the few travel backpacks that has a dedicated water bladder pocket/routing for the hose. I wish a nearly identical pack were available w 30L capacity.
Helpful review. I was considering this pack, but you are right it would be annoying to undo two buckles and a cinch each time you want to open it. I think I’ll stick with an Osprey Daylite.
if you could get your hands on the older version I'd grab it. I've tried way too many packs and the Flash 22 is a winner. My son has the Daylite and likes it. Due to my small statue it didn't work for me. Thanks for the comment!
@@ckgonzales6743I am also choosing between the daylite and the flash 18/22. How tall are you? I'm also small haha. Was it too large on your back? (Your son has the normal daylite and not the daylite plus right?) Thanks for posting this video!
@@superdeejay8 Hi - I'm 5'1" and the 22 fits. The daylite has a ridged insert that hit at the base of my back....it can be removed, which is how I opted to use it (I did end up returning to REI). If you're trying decide between the 18 or the 22 I personally would go with the 22 as it has side pockets for water, etc. The 18 is smaller, but lacking side pockets. You might check out the Gregory Nano 18. It has good reviews and does have side water pockets.
Still the only review of the new flash 22 pack on RU-vid. Got one on sale and trying to decide to keep it or not. I’d prefer the old version too. Why change it if it ain’t broken
I'm assuming you're meaning the side zipper pocket and not the water bottle pocket. It is a decent sized pocket, but if you put something large inside it could push into the inner area or into the bottle pocket area. It's a very nice well thought out pack.
Well I hate net mesh pockets they stretch over time, fray, water bottle falls out when you bend over. Yeah single strap nicer, some times i think they change things just to not interfere with logos on bags, usually located on center, form over function. The missing straps points seems problematic on the new bag. You now have only 4? On these small bags, with token straps, waist straps you really don't want to hang of the back a lot of weight, pulling outwards on your back. But for a wet canvas doggy water bowl, a wet poncho, wet pair of socks, shoes, would be nicer to have the older loops continue parallel straps on sides, back. Have you looked at REI Rusksack 22, it looks like a really solid pack of this ilk. It's more oval in shape. Although that round, sack shape is elegant and hard to beat for stuffing yourself silly. I guess that's why the Navy, Marines use hugh round duffel bags for clothing. Tough call on the Flash vs Rusksack.
I had originally purchased the Ruckpack 18 and found that I much prefer the Flash 22. Personal preference, but check out Chris U ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tWMmBa7VQ2I.html He has some great reviews that really helped me. Thanks for watching!
