In the UK we’ve only so far had the 75kwh battery in the Model 3 Long Range but now in 2022 we have a 78.8 kWh [LG?] battery.
So will this bigger battery give much more real-world miles and range? How far can it REALLY go on one charge?
What efficiency does it achieve at motorway speeds 70mph?
Here I take one with me for the day and we’ll see!
Thanks for watching!

Another great video Richard. I have the same battery in my 14 month old long range. I’ve never charged to 100%. I charge daily to 80% in my garage with a 110V outlet. I charge to 90% for my 290 mile trip from Cape Cod to New Jersey and stop briefly at one of 4 superchargers on my way. Great car. Bought it for $49,970 and squeaked in for the Massachusetts $2.5K EV rebate. Price has gone way up. Love the white seats. Keep those great videos coming. You are my favorite RU-vidr.

You can charge to 100% if you go on a trip and you can go below 10% if you are planning to charge as soon as you stop. What you should not do, is keep the car with more than 90% or less than 10% without using it.

I just got my 3LR and had Symons do the ppf and ceramic protection as we were preparing for the first of many of our long trips from Essex to Cornwall. The quality of the work was matched by the standard of Richard’s videos. Not only was the range unbelievable but the speed it charged at from superchargers. We only went for the 250kw type and it made the journey not much different in time from the petrol car journey’s we usually take.

I own a Model 3 LR with this battery since March 2022 and I am surprised how good the range is. In April I went on a trip to the Netherlands from my home in Germany and I was able to cover the 620 km with a single charge. Maximum speed was 100 km/h.

That's outstanding. I've not managed more than 350km between stops on European motorways in my 2021 LR. But i don't have a top speed of 100kph on my trips...

@@15bit62 In NL the legal limit on the motorway is 100 km/h between 6 am and 7 pm and speeding leads to a serious fine. My aunt had to pay way over 100 € a few years ago and she was just a few km/h over the limit. Since over 90% of the trip was on motorways in NL I had not much of a chance to go faster. In Germany on the other hand I know some motorway sections where I can empty the battery in less than 200 km if I want to.

Got one of those newer LR. Managed 284 miles using 75 % of battery a few days ago ( low 20s degrees C, dry , aircon on , unrushed motorway journey with some slow traffic ) . That would give a 100 % range of over 380 miles. 75 kWh usable my calculations suggest.

I had a test drive in a long range dual motor variant today and was extremely impressed with it. They needed to put a bigger battery in as my standard range RWD 2022 LFP will do 280 miles a charge max in these conditions so there wasn’t much between that and old standard range. My RWD would have averaged 200 wh/ mile on this trip with this style driving so it’s about 15% more efficient. I have done a test Wakefield to Milton Keynes and back and am doing another same route to show not a one off and will post my video up in about a week.

I have a 2020 Long Range (White/White Premium interior and Full Self Drive)and it just about hits 290 miles of summer range. In fact todays long range with a real world extra of 30 or so miles and FSD would cost a staggering £13,000 more. Even without FSD the same car today would be £6000 more. Still a great car but at todays prices I’m not sure I’d be buying one.

Just what I needed to hear Richard. I had heard there may be a slightly bigger battery in the latest models. I ordered my model 3 long range in May before the latest price increase after a very long year or so deliberation. I do site surveys all around the country and on average cover around 45-50000 miles a year. I have been subscribed to your channel for a while now and its helped me realise i have made the right choice. Your always down to earth and honest about everything and come across as a very likeable character. I have just had an update through the Tesla app that instead of April/June next year i should hopefully get mine between December and February, and may even be offered earlier from what Tesla have told me. I was hooked after a test drive. The ease of one pedal driving with the amount of miles i do and the comfort, ability to overtake over short distances etc. your videos are always interesting and informative and i look forward to the next instalment.

Regarding the suspension. I found that they tinkered with the rebound, not the firmness. Meaning the push down is the same, but when the going up and meeting the stop/end of the strut it’s softer in that motion.

Great video Richard. Always appreciate that you do real-world examples. I would love to see a test of just how much drafting affects an EV. I spend a lot of time traveling in a petrol equivalent of an EQV and I draft trucks whenever possible because I can use up to 20% less fuel. It would be great to see the effect of this on EVs, not sure if the same dynamics are true. P.S: I'll get an EQV or ID Buzz when there are some second-hand models available.

Thank you for your review. I had a Fremont T-M-3, LR lease car from 2020 for 2 years, and recently got my own car that is the same spec (including standard wheels) and I also think the suspension is better/softer/less crashy. There is also a significant improvement on the quality of the interior being a Chinese made car, but you have covered that already. It is good to see that improvement in range and I see an improvement in efficiency - I got just over 4.1 over 2 years in the Fremont car and I think I am getting better over similar journeys in similar weather. But will have to wait a couple of years for the long term average. A small amusing thing, when I reset my lease car to factory it returned its position to the car park at the Fremont factory - at night. Not until I drove it a couple meters did the sat nav updated to the correct position in the UK.

We are going to buy a pre-owned M3 AWD LR given the current pricing plus we want to use that for our long road trips and leave our 2022 MYP home. It looks like a 22 M3 easily has 50 more miles of highway miles which on our trip from home to visit the grandkids will allow us to make the 1000-mile trip with just 2 SuperCharger stops as we spend the night at the halfway point that has Tesla Destination chargers. That saves us at least 2 SuperCharger stops. In the US Tesla is selling many with FSD and even the Performance Boost Upgrade included, a steal for about $33K US. And they add an additional 12 months of warranty.

Link the elevation changes to the trip of each test. Elevation changes of different routes will change your range. In BC Canada, we have Mountains to up and down, so the ranges are different to the Flat UK. I’m waiting for the Tesla Pickup Truck with at least 700km range. Distances between our Towns are more that 150 km in a lot of cases. Town and City Driving is way different to driving in Canada or the Western USA.

Build quality was excellent except a minor door alignment issue that will be easily rectified. Interesting watching this with the new electricity charges videos. It's almost like the UK Government are forcing people to get solar panels, to enable them to meet their green commitments at zero expense to them! (Who'd have thought it). The increased cost seems to really push home the point about people having an efficient electric vehicle and not just an electric vehicle; and making best use of cheap charging on overnight deals or free charging at work/shops. Tesla obviously always do well at over 4mi/kwh but there are also now plenty of smaller less expensive vehicles which will too e.g. Mini, e-C4. Also, how cool does the Cupra Born look!! Cupra have the best designers right now.

@@rogerstarkey5390 1.5 Dci scenic. £20 Road tax. 55mpg average. Over 60mpg on many occasions. Overall cost to own over the past 5 years and 50000 miles approx £300 a month, including depreciation. Not an exciting car but a good family workhorse. I have a work colleague who has paid £650 a month for nearly 3 years on a Tesla 3 and in a years time has to hand it back. £35000 including deposit and nothing to show for it. We owned our last car for 12 years bought at 3 years old. The best way to look after the environment is to keep consumables as long as possible as the manufacturing process is one of the biggest polluters.

Just a comment about the cost of the trip, Richard. You mention the cheap overnight rate on special tariffs but forgot to mention, as do many others, the increased cost of daily usage on those tariffs. As a simple example I found one that charged 20p less per kWh at night but 20p MORE per kWh the rest of the time. I checked and i use about 10kWh in the dearer times, so 10 times 20p more per day. To save that 200p a day I’d need a usage of more than 200p saving at 20p less per kWh, that is 10kWh ‘cheap’ car charging per day. At your 4.5 mile per kWh that would be a daily mileage of 45 miles. That is over 16000 miles a year. Unless I do OVER 16000 miles a year I’d LOSE on such a ‘cheap’ tariff, surely ?? Or Did I miscalculate ?

Don't mean to be pedantic mate but real world is two to four people and luggage/shopping in the boot. I always did my range tests with real world scenarios. Again apologies don't mean to offend. Cheers for the video

Great video! As you say, you're getting to almost double the money for other cars that can do that sort of range. Can you do or have you done a direct real world range comparison between LR Model 3 and LR model Y? I'm wondering if the model Y would do 300 miles vs the 325 you've proven the LR Model 3 can do. Ta

Range anxiety is a figment of most people's imagination in my experience. Regarding charging costs I have charged my Company Renault Zoe 50 GT Line 135 today from approximately 50 miles range to full (238 miles) on a 43KWH charger in Lidl at 28p/kWh total cost was £10.06. Cheap as chips if you ask me. 180 odd miles for a tenner👍👍👍

180 is actually an even amount of miles, not odd

@@Tanax13 ok Mr Padantic. It was showing 51 miles and charged to 238 so the actual figure was 187miles. And for your information 180 odd means 180 plus a few....

@@pauln0371 Padantic? Sorry I'm not native English speaker. I'm just saying 180 is an even number. I don't know about this saying. No need to be rude because I don't know that? But sure, thanks.

Of course any anxiety is to do with people and their mind. Skme of us will turn up 30 minutes early for something while others just on time etc... And the same is with phone battery to car range.

Tesla claim 374 miles but potentially 389 on the aeros. (235 tyres not 255). I've never charged my 2021 to 100% but will be doing in September when I finally (after 18 months) take it for a proper run!! Were people "lucky" buying these at £52000??! Lucky was buying at £46990 when the grant was still active.

its going to be slightly less heavier motors, brakes and few differences here and there. but you are getting panasonic batteries which are much better than lg for power

Hi, i dont know if you read these anymore but im kinda confused about the batteries in 2021. Some info says the 2019-2020 have 79kwh and tesla updated batteries to 83kwh in 2021, but some say the 79kwh is the new one. My model 3lr 2021 has 79kwh battery so is it the updated or older how does one know

I have a march 22 m3lr, but whist I waited for delivery of my car i ended up being based from home, so now do lots of 1-3 miles trips, averaging 3.85wh/mile over 1500 miles. I was hoping for more and i drive pretty chilled too, is the above normal or a bit on the low side?
