LOL! The Volks bit has always referred to VW Group as a whole but I appreciate, even with that, the channel is getting very Porsche heavy. This is because I have to film whatever I can when it comes my way and because VW Audi Seat Skoda aren't releasing any interesing cars, I've had to diversify a bit and it's going to get even harder due to all the EVs coming to market. Can't see the 2035 postponement changing model launches that much sadly. The good news is next week I buy a VW that should satisfy the VW purists in the audience :)

Different type of review but very good as always. The T is an entry level Porsche so you should avoid the Porsche money-making options; £61,500 gets you all you need if you are careful and choose the "cheap" options wisely. The S is obviously more desirable, from a performance perspective, but you will be undoubtedly persuaded to load the options list yet again so beware!

Thanks Paul. I think with the S, whatever options you go for, it's still only £1400 more than the T and for 115 PS extra that's a bargain. Not only that but you get basically the RS4's engine which sounds epic with the sports exhaust option (which I'd happily trade the pan roof for!)

@@volkswizard absolutely, if they had given this Macan T the Golf R power figures (which is what, about 320hp?), this car might almost make sense, but as it is a £45k Stelvio is half a second quicker to 62 and for about £70k you could have the properly fast Stelvio Quadrifoglio.

@@Hali88point taken but on a quality basis you can’t really compare prices of a Alfa against a Porker, surely? You could flip your argument around and say that the Stelvio seems overpriced against the more powerful VW Tiguans…

@@neilturner6749 yeah the Stelvio interior quality isn't as good, but it's not £20k worse. As for Tiguans, a person interested in a Tiguan is probably not a petrolhead and wouldn't even consider a Stelvio. But a person interested in a sporty SUV like a Macan might consider a Stelvio.

For daily city driving the base engine is more than sufficient. The T gets aesthetic add ons that if put on the S model would drive the price up way too much and doesn’t make the 1sec faster 0-60 worth it

Super enjoyable, quicker than you need on regular roads, and much lighter and better equipped than an S for significantly less money (in my market). The T is a winner.

Interesting review. I have a T and spec for spec it’s about £5000 less than the S. went down through France at 120-130 kph and still got mud 30s. To the gallon. Just sit in the configurator and spec out your ideal T then spec a S to the same spec and then your£500 difference disappears out the window I upgraded my wheels for £400 (£1200 on an S) I upgraded my interior to extended leather. Again that’s a good £1000 less than doing the same on an S. I had my side blades colour coded (free). That’s £400 on an S. it goes on and on. I also have a Golf mk7 GTi PP. DSG leather and sunroof. I love that car. Both cars are pretty similar in performance but the T just more civilised to drive. But then it’s lot more money.

Excellent review. I was given a base Macan as a loan car when my 981 GT4 was in for a service at Porsche Colchester. It was fully loaded with 18 way seats, pan roof etc etc, but was just a bit, how can I say, almost asthmatic with having just the 2.0 litre 4 cylinder engine. If I were looking for a Macan, I would start with the Macan S and throw some options on it but basically I'd only look a Macan S for that 6 cylinder engine.

To be honest I had lots of the Macan 4 Cylinders and the V6 aswell as courtesy cars from Porsche when my 911 is in for servicing. They’re both very nice and capable. If you’re likely to do more long European road trips then perhaps the V6 is the better choice otherwise the 4 cylinder is perfectly capable for most UK driving and you’ll get less hammered on emissions these days

Great video, I really like the Macan Porsche frustrates me with the options lists, suppose it’s nice to have so much choice but on resale, 2 identical looking cars could have been £20,000 different when new Mic quality was poor on this video

Nice review. In the States there's a $6K difference in price. Plus, the T comes with a lot of features as standard that would need to be added to the S to make the price differential a fair comparison (i.e. sport seats, PASM, sport tail pipes, & sport chrono to name a few).

Love all your reviews!! Writing here from Vancouver Canada. I love your review on the new R and your tips videos. I have owned nothing but GTi my entire life until buying a new R MK7.5 almost 6 years ago. The best car I have ever owned. Fast and nimble. Tons of space. A very monochromatic black interior. THE perfect car. I did not upgrade to the MK8 as I require buttons and knobs and switches. Even after your tip video on their infotainment system screen I just can’t do it. lol. Anyways I am at a point of my life, 52 years of age that I want a new car. It comes down to regrettably getting the 2024 R and learning to live with it. Or moving up to a Macan T. I’ve test drove it and loved it. Not as fast or quick or peppy as my MK7.5 but pretty darn close as I cannon afford the Macan S. Just trying to justify the price difference of almost $30k Canadian dollars. But I am heavily leaning towards the Macan T. What are your thoughts or tips or advice on my dilemma? Thank you.

Sorry for the delay. Thanks for your support👍I’d go Macan S or stick with Golf until you can stretch to it. New Macan EV is out, normally a new model will make old one cheaper but not this time, expect prices to hold firmly

It is $3000 AUD more than the base Macan but $20,000 AUD less than the Macan S in Australia so it has a lot more going for it down under.

@@volkswizard Not really. The T pricing just doesn't make any sense here compared to the US or UK etc. It was good value (and I have one too). Our cars have a lot of equipment that are options there - everything from the larger fuel tank, spare wheel, dimming mirrors, keyless entry/start, rear airbags etc etc.

I see a lot of people complaining about it being "underpowered" which I don't think it is. 265ps is well enough and a 0-100kph in just over 6s isn't bad either. Even if it says Porsche on it. The first Cayenne S had 340ps but did 0-100 in just under 7s, and the regular cayenne did over 9s... When SUVs first came out these performance figures were top level. Take the top-of-the-range xc90 v8 with 315ps. 7.3s, the supercharged RR sport with 390ps did 7.6s. And I know a 4cyl is a bit boring, but the ea888 is one of few 4cyl engines that still use a cast-iron block which means that there's little noice and vibrations from it. Smooth engine for a 4cyl, and its longitudinally mounted, which provides more refinement than lets say a golf gti.

Good info thanks, I’m not an SUV buyer so the fact I want to go faster is not representative. For most people it’s quick enough especially as PDK is like jockey whipping the horse 😁

Enjoyed that video, thanks Andrew. Your comment about the S is true, and I say that despite us having bought a T in June. There is realistically more like a £6000 price jump spec for spec though, because the T has plenty of options included or cheaper as upgrades than the S (21” alloys on the S are closer to £3000 than £1000, for example). I’d still have gone for the S but for wait times - though they’ve come down now. I did also think the T would be decent on fuel but my wife’s right foot proves otherwise, so I doubt an S would have been notably more to run 😄

I didn’t think the T added anything that I’d particularly want on a relatively modest-powered crossover, so if buyers just want a decent-driving “daily” I’d recommend sticking with the base model or, if you don’t have a sports car in your garage and need the extra thrills to come from just one car, get an S model.

Re fuel economy - there’s no difference in real-world consumption across the Macan range. Although “naturally” thirstier, the V6 is far more muscular, meaning that in everyday driving you’ll be using much less throttle than the 2.0 four (which requires quite a heavy right rear foot to perform even briskly) and the two factors cancel each other out.

We have a 2015 Macan S ex Porsche Demo car, fully loaded with options, some I don't even know what they are😂 superb performance and sound from the Porsche performance exhaust. And comfort from the air suspension. Only huge issue is that it tramlines so badly on the 21s!!! Can catch you out and not good at 70mph!!!!!

My Dad and I went into an unnamed Porsche dealership to look at a Macan a couple of years ago. Me: "It has the same 2.0 T engine as the Golf R, doesn't it?" Young dealer, aged 12: "No, its Porsche's own engine." Me "OK". Volkswizard in this video: "It has the EA888 engine" (clearly the Volkswagen produced engine). So, who was right, me or the dealer? Should the dealer have told me it was the Volkswagen engine that had been tuned by Porsche? Has it been tuned by Porsche? Was the dealer correct in saying it wasn't a Golf R engine but Porsche's own engine, even if it was tuned, or if it wasn't? Young children working in dealerships who are not in fact enthusiasts regarding the produce they are selling does annoy me, which is I think my main point.

Coming out of a 2021 SQ5….if you cut and pasted this review you could almost get away with stating “ review of mid-sized VAG SUV”. That being said, Porsche have squeezed the bejesus out of this GEN1 Q5 platform (2009 era) and I am sure it makes great margins out of this, even second hand they hold their value better than most. Good review, keep up the good work!

Have you tried the GTS? Same alignment and everything but with proper power. Drove it at the Silverstone Porsche Centre and couldnt believe the handling. A thing this heavy shouldn't handle like its on rails! Also weirdly the GTS doesn't change up automatically compared to the T.

I'd love to drive a GTS! The fact it doesn't change up is because the V6 is a proper Porsche, the changing up is a VW thing and a clue to the T's humble roots. Having said that if a T had proper manual shift and a decent noise (not impossible with EA888) and 320 PS (again not impossible with that engine) it would be a tougher choice

Personal opinion is I’d rather buy a top spec Golf R Estate (in black in case you are wondering❤️). But I have to review these things objectively from the perspective of an SUV buyer as there’s no ignoring the demand. I was in Porsche Solihull this morning, 2 new Macan’s hitting the road and another back from test drive. People want them

@@volkswizard completely understand the reasons behind the video and love the fact you would buy an R wagon instead. I only ever buy used & as a current TCR owner would probably go the same way. I do like something a little different so I’d potentially be persuaded to be a tight arse and buy a 19/20 plate Cupra R ST with the ABT upgrade 🤔

1 cars panroof cracked and it’s been written off as an undesirable option 😂😂😂 Don’t listen to the clowns, thousands upon thousands of VAG group cars and many others have them without any issue whatsoever

It’s not the glass sunroof that cracks it’s the surround, apparently down to the factory adhesive pattern, not giving enough support in the corners. There is a new revised adhesive pattern when fitting a new one. Very common issue on the 7-7.5 platform. Insurance try not to replace as it’s not the glass part. Factory VW warranty were replacing them but the VW extended warranties are trying to get out of it. Cost of replacement is around £1,500

Not an SUV crossover fan but loving the Porsche content in addition to hot hatch VAG reviews and find the Macan a better compromise than most of these trucks as nice to see some Porsche finesse given to this platform - the ubiquitous EA888 does well here but nice to have a six pot option for not much more £ 🎯👏😎

I don't care what anyone says - If I was wealthy enough to buy this new I would not be buying this because..... That front side wing above the alloys - the separate section line is absolutely disastrous and I can't believe this body line was signed off on. Is nobody noticing this? It is stealing more attention at every point of the video. On the other hand Andrew i'm very complimentary of the content you are making the effort to film - My watch history says I have viewed probably over 90% of your videos on here over the last 2 years and i'm subbed. Thumbs up for effort taken to film, narrate and edit but honestly that line in the front side wing is draw droppingly distracting.

Thanks shifty, I honestly don’t care if you like the car as long as you like the video 😁This was a rush job, day 1 was research spec as no spec sheet supplied (big job!), day 2 was dodge rain filming, day 3 was get a thumbnail pic in between showers and return car. There might be a few more 3 day loans so glad quality is ok. Peeved about audio quality in the driving bit but already onto that 👍

@@volkswizard I did notice the fuzzy audio when driving but your channel is getting better and better week in week out don't worry about it. Crazy to think Porsche would lend you a car of this ilk with no spec sheet! I particularly like the DIY repair jobs you have been showing viewers that you carry out yourself with a jack and stands!

I can’t possibly see why you would want this other than badge snobbery? There’s no more room in it than most hatchbacks You never mentioned the servicing costs either, Porsche prices for parts and Labour for VW parts That’s why owning a boxter is pointless, you may as well own a 911

It's what people want, there is no point arguing however irrational, just look how many Macans there are on the road. Yes servicing at Porsche is dear but you probably only need a minor service during warranty and outside of that go to one of the many good specialists where it will be a lot cheaper than a VW main dealer

Also Boxster is very different to 911 since 991 911 came out and stands on its own 2 feet as an exciting sports car rather than a GT. If you want a 911 buy one but if you are buying new the PCP costs will be much heftier so just buy a Boxster if you want one and go to a specialist for servicing. You can now still buy a Porsche warranty even with specialist history
