The trailhunter is not as step below TRD Pro. It is considered a halo trim right alongside it. Some people think it will cost even more than the TRD Pro.

I would take a 2023 Colorado ZR2 over anything. Looks the best and plenty capable. My only gripe would be GM not giving the Bison a bump in HP to compete with Ranger, but that's minor.

The trailhunter is meant to compete with the Bison. Trailhunter is the highest trim level fornthe tacoma

I wish they had the v6 3.5 twin turbo also . But for 2.4 and 460 ft lbs of torque is insane that 3/4 diesel numbers

I heard that's the reason GM did away with the 2.8 Diesel because the new 2.7 makes similar numbers as the Diesel on cheaper fuel than diesel.

TRD PRO is nice but how much plus dealer mark up? I currently have a 2020 TRD Sport I tricked out, paid $35500 in 2020 before shortages..

Can you get an E locker for the front ?

I'm pretty sure you can. I know ARB makes air lockers, and I believe Eaton makes e-lockers. There's nothing like a factory selectable locker, though, as far as reliability goes.

I'm not a loyalist either, and I'd be happy to try any model/make of truck. But I'm not excited about the new Tacoma at all. I ordered a 2023 ZR2 and the only other contender so far has been a Ranger Raptor. But the only factor that makes me slightly interested in the Raptor is the 400+ hp. Every single other factor is an easy win for the new 2023 ZR2 so I'll just get it in July and then if the Raptors prove to be better in more ways than just more hp over the next few years then maybe I'll try one in 2024 or 2025. Somehow I doubt it, and I feel very confident the 2023 ZR2 will be with me for five years or so.

Man, I’m going ZR2 all the way. I just don’t know why the TRD is labeled the #1 best off-roader? The ZR2 got 2 LOCKERS; better tires; arguable better suspension; arguable better looks; along with Rocksliders, better approach (and I think better ground clearance); better trims; and most of all better PRICES! The ZR2 is like the only new vehicle that hasn’t increased price! (Disclaimer): I’m not just throwing punches at the TRD Pro, I’m just asking how it got it’s name and why is the ZR2’s biggest competitor?!? ( also I’m not even mentioning the ZR2 BISON which is way out of everyone’s league)!

The TRD Pro and Trail Hunter are nice trucks but logically speaking, a ZR2 is the plain winner due to the technological advantages (multimatic shocks, front and rear selectable lockers). Although you can always add such upgrades to a Toyota, you get the factory warranty peace of mind with the ZR2.

@@thetrailoutthere Yep, I agree! I’m not saying the Tocoma is terrible off-road… it’s just not the best or the best for your buck (if you know what I mean). Thank you TB Mafia for your reply, it means a lot. 🙂
