As a military dude who has driven his hand-me-down 2011 Ford Fusion all around the country during my military contract. As well as survived the crazy snowstorm in Virginia during the beginning of 2022. I used to DREAD roadtrips in my old car. Now with the new Tesla Model 3+, I find myself actually excited to do my last road trip in the Marines. The car holds its own. The safety software saved me from an accident when I was doing a college campus visit and a Challenger slammed their breaks in front of me while reacting to an accident on the road. The Model 3 has software that activates the breaks for you if you're headed towards an object at very high speeds WHILE ALSO RECORDING with a dashcam. I don't usually praise vehicles, let alone corporations. However, I fully support anyone purchasing this car. You'll be safer for it.

Folks will create any number of bizarre scenarios to find fault with something different. We are 72 and after about 30 minutes of a 3-hour test drive, we had our OLD muscle memories relearned. And we are digging the free FSD test. We subscribe to FSD when we take long road trips.

I honestly think once regions give the green light for FSD, Tesla should bring the enhanced autopilot features to the base then just charge for FSD or make that new combined package like 1k. I still enjoy driving the car so wouldn't want to go all out for full fsd, but on the motorways auto lane change is such blessing

Let’s get real - this car still looks basically the same as the car they put out nearly 8 years ago. This is another indication of just how badly Elon has dropped the ball. The fact that the 3, and the almost identical Y have gone SO long without a truly new model is inexcusable. Instead of wasting SO much time on that monstrous Cybertruck, which has only sold 3,800 units, they should have come out with an ALL-NEW 3/Y AND a $25k car by now. Until they do, sales and profits will continue to decline. Elon seems to think autonomy will save the company, but they are MANY years away from true Level 5 autonomy (FSD is still only Level 2). Robo-taxis won’t be on the road until at least 2030. ONE pedestrian accident in San Francisco shut down GM’s Cruise robo-taxi program, but Elon thinks FSD v12 will go straight from Level 2 to Level 5 by next year, and without any ultra-sonic sensors!! He’s lost his mind. Tesla is in real trouble and their only hope is to fire Elon and get a competent, sane CEO.

You can charge a long range to 80% which is 272Miles, same as 100% on Base model. With Long Range Model: 1. You have more range 2. You have less charging time, as the speed of Super charger drops significantly at 80% (Meaning, you can charge a long range, faster than the standard range to get 272 miles) 3. You have dual motor (More stability) 4. You have faster acceleration
@fallonstuart8921
@fallonstuart8921 5 месяцев назад
Maybe the M3/3+ are subtly different from the MY, but I have found my MY RWD LFP charges from 80% to 100% much faster than a MY LR I rented recently. I was disappointed with the way the LR throttled down in the last 20%. Also, the LR efficiency was lower (may be my right foot) than the RWD,
@brkitdwn

Tesla should have upped the driving ranges, and made the standard model have a minimum of 412 miles @ 100% charge. Ranges need to come up significantly to sway more buyers.

Why on earth can't they install a powered frunk on all of their cars?
@RyanShawtech

My guess is that their data shows that customers don't use it enough. Funny thing there is we would use it more if it was powered. But at the end of the day, if it doesn't prevent their cars from selling, they won't want to add that cost.

On AC, one thing important upgrade you missed is the fact that passenger can stop the air flow on his side by tapping the screen. Major upgrade as on my model3 2021 that wasn’t possible and led to "discussions" with my wife as how much air flow is required, rarely on the same view on that specific point :))

Everything I saw online said the Highland didn’t come with TPE/XPE/rubber mats and for me I wanted that level of protection. P.S. The climate control option for the back seats are a little overstated to me. You can change where the vents point , you can turn off and turn on heated seats but I thought the back seat would have its own temperature control option. You aren’t able to do so. Maybe I’m just silly with what I thought but maybe I’m not alone. Also fsd is amazing. I’m shocked on how well it works. The stalks and indicator removal for me was not a big deal and he is right I have grown to prefer it

I have to say that the phone key issue is the one thing over time I’ve had issues with that is particularly annoying! The random windshield wiper is generally funny unless you have a lot of dead bugs on the windshield?!?! I believe that the main problem with the phone key issue is the phone itself…?
@fallonstuart8921
@fallonstuart8921 5 месяцев назад
Yes my Samsung S20 has issues each time the software updates on the phone and sometimes on the Tesla. You can put a wiper on the lower tray which offers you four speeds and auto. Speed 1 is off, 2 is intermittent, 3 is on normal speed and 4 is max. I found this quite useful when driving in the UK recently with all the different types of rain they have:)

Two people refused to drive my Chevy Volt because of the unusual controls. Standard controls would likely have sold more vehicles. I've noticed that the Tesla owners that I know are current or former computer programmers. A standard dashboard and set of controls, with little or nothing to learn, might introduce the cars to far more people.

Coming from many years driving BMW’s I’m loving my new refreshed M3LR. I don’t miss the stalks at all. I really like the minimalist look of the new interior. I drink out of soda cans and I’m crushing them trying to pull them out. Still no rear camera cleaning. 2-3 point turns with shifter is a bit of a pain. Bottom line is, if my problems are these few things I have a great car.

I daily drive a 2023 Model 3 RWD which has the same battery and drivetrain as yours. I know Tesla says to go ahead and charge to 100% every day if you want, but after listening to some battery experts in multiple lectures, I set mine to 80% for daily use. I only charge it to 100% once per week as is recommended by Tesla documentation. These batteries are very resilient, so it may not matter to most since they degrade very slowly, but I drive 50k miles per year and want this thing to last forever if possible. I have over 15k miles on it so far and am still showing over 99% battery capacity. This seems to be a percentage point or two better than what I’ve seen from other LFP models with this mileage. I’ve also charged 24% on superchargers in that time, so it’s not just L2 charging. If you can daily them at 60-80% max charge, maintain SOC between 20-80% , and only charge to 100% once per week, I think they’ll last an insanely long time.

As a first time Tesla owner with less than a month’s experience I also love the car. As an older person I wanted the added safety of FSD. It does a fantastic job and I rely on it to react to a situation faster than I can react. I just have one question about the systems ability to read speed limit signs. As I said I use FSD every time I get in the car. The main thoroughfare by me is a 30 mph speed trap. So I’m probably one of few people who turns off automatic speed control where the car is allowed to evaluate the speed limit, road conditions and traffic and pick a suitable speed. On my main thoroughfare that often means it will go better 40 and 50. Now here’s my problem, the system is not very good at reading speed limits. We have a road where the limit is 45 mph. The road name however is Route 25. Every time I pass a route sign the car slows to 25 mph. This is a rapid deceleration and could cause a rear ending crash. There are many other situations where this speed change also occurs. But in some instances it doesn’t like school speed zones. Those are always ignored. And in this mode when exiting an interstate with a cloverleaf it will not slow down because it also ignores the yellow suggested max speed limits. I’ve not seen any reviews on this issue. I suspect that’s because most people use the evaluation mode. Would you review this feature and offer your feedback?

They had me wait for over 2 hours to then send me home with a loaner im in manhattan and the Tesla place is in Brooklyn . I then get a notice the car is ready oick it up I should get some perk after wasting a day of my life sitting in a servicing center and driving back and forth for a new car I think. Test out auto features or something. They didn’t even have snacks. Nothing. A small coffee maker kerig. They told me to be there at 7am in a text They don’t open til 8. Let’s see how this car now runs. I hope that is the last service experience. I had turned in my 2021 model 3 of which I never had only a tire issue over 3 years. Expected the same this time. Hope this is a one time thing but when you have trouble there isn’t one person you speak with.

Have you confirmed that there is a single subwoofer? Where is the sub installed ? Because the spot where subs would be is empty on all the model 3 2024 I have seen including mine Tesla vision is horrible. Not even close to 360 and without the ultrasonic sensors is a poor move from Tesla. He is completely right many times it’s not there for you. Every time I back into my garage the Tesla vision is degraded every time

I never had a model 3 before this is my first. I owned a 2021 model y previously. Now when I compare my 2024 model y and the model 3 I do think the model 3 is more quiet but not as much as everyone seems to be claiming in my opinion. I haven’t been driven in the back seat but I do feel like driving both cars they are similar in noise reduction since both front windows are double glassed. Ride quality over bumps are better on model 3. But compare to model y because of the difference in height it becomes closer in comparison. I will say maybe model 3 older vs newer might be a much larger difference but I will say test drive it so you can decide for yourself. Also the back seats itself are comfortable but the feet positioning is terrible. You can barely get your feet under the front seats and the way you sit in the back leaves a large than normal gap between your thigh and the actual seat.

Come on Ryan, need to let people know Tesla doesn't have FSD working yet for FSD 2024 M3. ETA------TBD.

My wife's Model Y fights between our profiles. It is pretty consistent for which profile it picks based on who is driving, but almost always has the wrong phone as the media device over bluetooth. Anyone else have that trouble? The "priority device" option never seems to stick to a certain profile but rather overall.

I knew that the Highland model was coming in 2024, but I opted for the 2023 inventory model. That took $2000 off and another $7500 with the federal tax credit. It seems like everybody’s happy with their personal choices.

Wait, WHAT! The old glove box sounded cheap. You got your notes jumbled up. It’s entirely the reverse

Great review. Love that you keep it real. My Audi e-tron was written off by insurance after a relatively minor crash. So I just leased the same vehicle you reviewed here. I was floored when I test drove it, at how many improvements it has. I came back to the dealer and just assumed I was driving the LR version because this feels so quick. Was shocked to hear that this was the RWD. With the lease rates plus the $7,500 credit on those, this is a no brainer. Hopefully my experience this time will be better than my experience with the 2020 Model Y 3 years ago. I’m pretty confident it will be.

Indicator buttons are not a problem at all on roundabouts. Just keep both hands on the steering wheel. I did a test drive going through some 15-20 tight roundabouts, and never missed a turn signal. But the real question is, which one is a better buy: new M3 or a used 2020 Model S "Raven" LR? :) Here at least there is no meaningful price difference anymore.

I’ve placed two dome resin buttons, 1/2” sizes, on top of the turning buttons. Now i can feel them without looking, at least most of the time. Works pretty good.

Kinda wish a quick swipe of scroll wheel could engage gears. I’d miss going from reverse to drive without coming to complete stop

Really hope the 2024 Model 3 gets access to FSD soon. I’ve purchased the RWD M3 (with FSD) and should take delivery within a month! :)

The Bluetooth Phone Key thing is an issue. It's done it to me 5 times now. Twice it required me to unpair and repair it. I can tell it broke because it won't play my audiobooks or the audio shuts off when the phone screen goes dark. If the Tesla SC set your phone up. You SHOULD try to unpair it and learn how to pair it again. Or it'll be frustrating.

Battery warranty is currently 150000 miles. A robotaxi may cover this miles in 6 months. How the warranty part work after. I think a battery swap/subscription model may be required for long term survival.

Great car but it's kind of expensive. I was looking at a 2021 Model 3 for $25k. Would that be worth it? Because a new M3 is about $10k more and not sure if that's worth it.

I’ve been driving my new 2024 M3 LR. The sound system is incredible. The ride is confident and smooth. My last EV was a Chevy Bolt EUV, which I liked but the M3 makes the Bolt look bad in comparison.

While maybe a bit unfair, if possible, how would you compare. the ride quality of your new Model 3 to ride quality to an older Model S?

Thank you for the review, Ryan. Do you think Tesla might in the future offer the ventilated seats alone for installation? I have a 2023 Model 3 and that is the one thing that I would really love to have. The Valley gets hot 🥵♨(NoHo).

Rear seat less leg room and noisy. Feels way to cramped in all seats. Too small compared to previous model 3. Would not upgrade to this from my 2020 model 3. Only upgrade that was really welcome was the blind spot monitor system

Oh man If I only dont live in a snowy country and I dont need the 4wd. I would definitely buy this RWD. I chose an MG4 Xpower with a 4wd. It cost me 35 000 euros

I know there's camp mode, and MY owners touting their adventures. What is the distance from back of driver's seat to trunk on your M3?
