Now if 8bitdo would just include both a USB and console port receiver like Retrobit did with their SEGA 2.4 GHz wireless Saturn and Genesis controllers. I would love a low latency SNES style controller for the MiSTer.

The problem with 8bitdo's previous SN30 (bluetooth) controller is, the diagonal is too sensitive. Play Contra 3, walk and shoot (hold down Y button and don't let go) at the same time, and when you see an enemy, duck/lower quickly to avoid the bullets, now the original Nintendo SNES controller will perform a perfect 'duck' move, so you will be ducking and shooting at the same time, but the 8bitdo SN30 controller, (in many cases) will register as a 'diagonal' input, so you end up walking and shooting diagonal down and thus failing to avoid the bullets and die. This is the problem with the 8bitdo's previous controller. In short, if you hold one direction, e.g. right, and quickly switch to down, it will register as 'diagonal down'. It works fine with single input, or special moves (such as Street Figher stuff), but it failed at this case. Just try Contra 3, keep walking and shooting, and while shooting, try to duck and see if you end up walking and shooting diagonal down. Try a few times and also compare with original Nintendo SNES controller and I'm sure you'll see.

I couldn’t climb the vines in Super Mario Bro’s 2 (All Stars). It would keep registering a diagonal when holding up and I would fall off over and over. It was frustrating. Plugged in a OEM SNES controller and no issues. I put some tape on the PCB to limit the contacts and it helped but it was a poor design. Glad they fixed it. The DIY kits they sell fixed this flaw out of the gate.
@bazzaro1982
@bazzaro1982 4 года назад
@@JohnDoe-wq5eu Maybe you have the revised board in it? Mine was the day 1 version they made when the Super NT launched. I know I am not crazy though, when it was happening to me I did some internet searching and found someone else having the same issue as me (same game same spot). I'm glad it is working for you though, it's a good controller, especially with the updated board. I have a bunch of their controllers and this is the only one I have had an issue with. I ended up getting the DIY kit for a SNES controller and it works great, so now the controller with tape on the PCB is for player 2 :)

The lag is more noticeable on High def TVs. The bluetooth controllers work good on a CRT. I did a speed run of 1:43:00, 101% on DKC with them.
@NeonPizza80s
@NeonPizza80s 8 месяцев назад
The 2.4hz controllers have 3.6ms of input lag, which is VERY good, pair that with a CRT(zero lag) with an SNES and you're set. I still prefer an original authentic official SNES controller, because i prefer how it looks. 8bitdo's 2.4 NES, SNES, TGFX & Genesis controller designs are a little disappointing compared to the real thing.

I'm looking to order an 8bitdo Arcade Stick and also one of the 8bitdo control pads to use with my Analogue Pocket... What in your opinion is the best pad to get for general purpose retro gaming? I'll be mostly playing Lynx, TG16, NGPC and of course Gameboy games on my pocket. So I'm thinking the SF30 could be good, as the 4 way dpad could be good as i don't hugely need the diagonals (or any analog sticks). I love Street Fighter 2 but if I'm playing that, I'll likely be using the Arcade Stick anyway. So I'm leaning towards the SF30, but if you or anyone here have any thoughts of better options I'd be interested. SFC30 looks interesting but not sure that's even compatible with Pocket anyways

fyi: Bluetooth uses the 2.4GHz band, even WiFi uses the 2.4GHz band. "2.4GHz" just does not use the Bluetooth PROTOCOL, which has some overhead (because it was never specifically made for gaming) and that is why "2.4GHz" has some slightly reduced latency, but it is all the same technology, it just communicates with each other a little bit differently. 2.4GHz for me personally just means it comes with a USB dongle that i need to plug into my PC, while Bluetooth just connects to the motherboard without a dongle and i have less hassle plugging in and out different USB dongles and i have soooo much USB crap by now, i'm always having to pull *something* out of the PC to connect something else, so every Bluetooth version is a god send for me... just one thing less to plug in and out and keep track of where the dongle is while unplugged [and they don't put much effort into making clear which dongle belongs to which pad, at 5+ dongles you better come up with like a sticker system for yourself] (and i have lots more retro bluetooth pads than that). just my 2 cents

My issues with the bluetooth pads was the syncing of the controller to the retro receiver. I've never had an problem with diagonals but I could see by the PCB design why that could be an issue. The fact it syncs right away is the main selling point. Also, I'm interested to see some lag tests, because it would be worth it for people if you could save 1-2 frames of response time.
