I had the 595 Competizione, and it was massive fun. Never the best in any category, but you can't measure fun....and these are. Perfect as a second car......
The 595 appeals. More than enough power. Shame there was no comment on the ride quality, steering feel or handling in general; although it looked good apexing corners on that track. I'm guessing this is another showing or a re-hash of a longer original video. I drove a standard 2009 500 (pre first facelift and chassis improvements) in around 2014 just on the M25 south to north to a dealer for warranty work and back later in the week, and it was great for such a small car. My dad got a Fiat 124 around 1974 after two Cortina's and he loved it. Nice touch to add a photo of Carlo Abarth and his progeny at the end. Still the best reviews.
@@johngraydon506 Agreed. Great engine, fantastic rear seat, great ride and handling. We drove to Cobh (Queenstown) together when I started working with him aged 15. He really loved it without saying so. Good safe driver, but he would enjoy himself with it when he could.
Great review as always. You really are the 'Autocar' of the RU-vid world. I had a 130TC Abarth many years ago and still have a soft spot for the marque. Would love a drive in a 695. You also make a good point that power is not the same as fun, people are obsessed with straight line acceleration (and artificial, exhaust backfiring) and seem to miss the point of a 'fun' car.
@@zaandam0172 I've not, I take it he's worth a watch? I'm in the UK, so I am much more familiar with Euro and Japanese cars. Although I love a Corvette and classic Mustang (but who doesn't :D )
@@zaandam0172 I actually sold American cars for a couple of years (it was a long time ago) and it was interesting to see customer's reaction to a woman extolling the virtues of a pushrod V8 :D Times have changed a little since then thankfully :D I'll miss V8s :(
I had a 595 Competitzione. It looked the part, sounded epic and was a lot of fun. I could just about cope with the overly harsh ride but, that driving position…..there’s no getting past it - it’s really bad. The seats are far too high and as the steering wheel isn’t adjustable for reach I found it difficult to find a comfortable driving position. I felt like I was sat on the car rather than in it. Despite all that I’m glad I owned one
No you should not. Let's be honest, the car is unattractive and will prove to be unreliable in the long term if you want fast there are better looking cars.
I wonder where you got the idea about unreliability. There's precious little that goes wrong with these cars and they are highly durable - especially by today's standards.
