I think you’re right. In a way it’s like the boom of the old muscle cars. The group that wanted them when they were kids got older and started wanting them. Now a similar thing is happing to the hot imports from the 90’s and early 2000’s.

@@ETCG1 For sure. 20 years ago a friend of mine was talking about wishing he could store away several of the high spec import cars. Like the Type-R, and basically all the top levels of the Japanese imports. Everybody thought he was crazy because the cars were pretty cheap and not thought to be anything special. Which is basically what all the now popular traditional hot rods and muscle cars were 40-50 years ago. They become valuable once they're desirable, but many of them have be used up or gone to the crusher.

I can't stand basically everything happening in the industry. Ford calling a fucking crossover a Mustang. Chevy ignoring their award winning midsized pickup chassis and slapping the Blazer badge on a fuckin Equinox. Toyota outsourcing their Halo sports car. Acura with this latest disaster of an Integra. Let the name die with honor vs badge raping due to lack of originality. It's such a fucking marketing cop-out. Ford took the new Bronco seriously. The rest of the manufacturers could learn from that revival.

Eric your car is going to go from substantial to exponential value increase. As manufactures go from drive by wire to full electronic/electric control. People are going to want that control back and will pay a high premium. In 10-15 years the used car market will show any pre 2006 models with out all the nannies (and possibly emissions control) that were once highly sought after will become the next rage all over again. Coupled with the fact that especially with more RU-vid University videos like yours showing the next generation how to make repairs and modifications to these "Modern Classic" cars.

What's next? I can imagine Honda reintroducing the Prelude and it looking like an Accord Crosstour with a goofy wing and faux air inlets , giant heavy 20 inch wheels , and more electronic nannies than a Boeing 747. At least when Dodge reintroduced the Challenger they integrated a lot of retro design so that it resembles the ones from the late 60's early 70's . Same with the Camaro and Mustang. The new Civic Type R makes me nauseous to look at , it looks like someone checked the Factory Ricer package option when they ordered it . If they incorporated some older original design elements into these cars it would at least make it interesting and familiar .

Ugh, usually I'm under 10 comments, but hurting this morning, slow start, sorry I'm late to the party, I have some other thoughts, first EC thank you as always, sending you a Christmas Card this year hopefully if the mail runs right it will get there on time. And yes you are right they go by what folks are buying so no one get upset on four door only, I wish they made more old style / retro versions but that's me, lol. I think you are correct on value wise, and soon my other thoughts, but like the 78 Dodge Ramcharger I inherited from my Dad when he passed, it's not much but it's worth more now than it was new and when I work on it and get him mean again I've seen them sell for 80k plus, but even though Dodge and Honda make lots of parts, (here is my thought/question/worry) one day there will be little to no parts for that, just as is the Ramcharger yes it's a 43 yo vehicle, but that may happen sooner if Acura go all electric, eventually I'd think they will either run out or stop making parts for the combination engines they sold. If the Ramcharger didn't have my family heritage or heirloom behind it I'd probably sell it after it's fixed up. It's drivable and street legal now, just some tiny things wearing out and a service it needs. I think the new Integra looks odd, I think that might be as you described it. When I was a kid in highschool, I remember when Howard Stern was on normal radio (age date lol) he always plugged buying an Acura Integra and when I saw them on the streets I thought yeah they look good Howard Stern! Lol Cheers and Thank You EC!!!

The famous words "They just don't have the market for it" Every time I hear that I think to myself, what about people like me. While I'm not a big fan of the Integra, I liked the larger coupes they made. Year ago, I owned a 2001 3.2 CL Type - S and aside from the crappy transmission the dealer I worked at replaced under warranty, that car was great. I think they should also ditch the TLX and bring back the TL. That was a very successful car. I owned 2 of them - 2004 base, and a 2010 SH-AWD. Both were great cars. All it takes is one person to start a trend then the market follows.

So there's market and then there's fanboys, kind of a big difference. I'm not calling you a fanboy, just saying there isn't many guys like us out there. It's the same thing with the Supra, I like though I'm a Chevy guy, but no one has 50-60k sitting around to drop in these cars. The Civic Type R is now around 50k and it's really not that good of a car. It's has great technology in it, but for that price it's still a civic at the end of the day....

Agree with you Eric. Yes the value will keep going up and as long they keep taking the purity of the vehicles out of the new market like the manuals (Save the Manual) they will keep going up in value and if it is manual even more. The real car enthusiast will always preferred to have a manual as 1st option than automatic. I get it automatic can be quicker in some applications but if you are looking for that connection between you and the vehicle and enjoying the driving and making the car do what you want the manual it is the way to go. As far electric vehicle, they are soulless and I don't see my self falling in love to one of those platform like having a internal combustion engine with manual gear box.

At the very least, it's not a crossover/SUV that they revealed with a revived nameplate, unlike some manufacturers out there (Mitsubishi, I'm looking at you), and that most manufacturers who are NOT American are keeping sedans alive. The new upcoming Integra is a compromise of today's market. It doesn't have a lot of things we want, but it does have enough of what we need. Not just on the Integra nameplate itself, but for the sedan market in general. I just hope that with the imminent electric future, the vehicles will just look like regular sedans, and not just an overdesigned vehicle with a raised ride height. Tesla themselves made the Model S as fun when it comes to speed and handling. I just hope that other manufacturers will follow suit in the sedan category of electric vehicles by adding a fun factor to them. With that said, Honda should have went the way on what Nissan did with the upcoming Z, where they still use the same chassis code and platform, yet, build a new car around that old but tried and true platform, and continue to build fun cars. Nissan also knows all too well the electric vehicle is the future (as we witnessed with two generations of the Leaf, and the upcoming Ariya), so they offset that with one of the very few of its kind left in this era of rear wheel drive, 2-door sports cars with a manual transmission, that are relatively affordable.

Being there is now a capstone on their internal combustion, I think it will definitely drive the import and wrecking yard prices of k-series engines as the k-series drove up the price of b-series when those got harder to find. I also think this electric push that’s being driven not by the market is going to drive up the prices of older vehicles. The public definitely understand that this push isn’t sustainable in our current powers grid. This leads me to side with Eric on the subject of subscription based vehicle “ownership” even tho you won’t actually own the vehicle.

It's also nice that the Integra name has been resurrected, better than the silly three letter names Acura started using. That Integra Type R looks sweet! Nice that it hasn't been beat up and/or heavily modified. I think as any car gets to be 20 or 30 years old, the remaining cars still out there become worth more, but even more so with the iconic Integra from Honda's golden days. And I agree, resurrecting the Integra name is very likely to create even more interest in the older ones, thus increasing their value.

I don't understand the 5 door hate. The Integra was launched with a 5 door model. I have never liked 2 and 3 door cars when there is a back seat. Too awkward to get in and the doors are too long. Have only 1 row of seats? But all means have just a single set of doors then.

Nostalgia sells, look at the Bronco. They missed the mark and for as much as a love honda/acura of the past. I hope this flops so they can kick themselves for making their capstone THIS boring.

Don't blame me Eric, I've only owned 2 door cars my whole life. 2 of which could seat 4 , and the rest were 2 seaters. Honestly though I don't wanna hear that acura can't make a 2 door integra when you have other new cars coming out like the FRS , 400Z , Miata ND2, and the not so new "supra" . What Acura did to the integra is the equivalent of Chevy coming out with a next gen Corvette that looks like a Malibu. That thing is junk , I don't see anybody into performance going out to buy that. Only thing they accomplished was destroying the integra nameplate. Only thing good about it is now there's going to be another mass produced car with the L15b7 so there will be more of those engines out there driving down the cost of them making it more affordable to swap them into the DC2 chassis.

MX5, BRZ/86, Supra, Z4, Boxster/Cayman, Mustang, Challenger, Camaro, 400 Z, A5 etc. There is a market for two door cars that span the price and performance range. It's just fairly small and there is a lot of very good competition. The Honda that was willing to take a risk just doesn't exist anymore. And honestly, I don't think that is a healthy thing for Honda's future. I can guarantee you that Toyota is probably losing money on the new Supra, and Nissan probably won't make much on the new Z, but they are cars that gave those companies a lot of good press and will drive sales of other cars. When they teased the new Integra the hype was high and people were excited. When they introduced the actual model, there was nothing but disappointment. And if there is anything Honda needs right now is a little excitement. They are fast becoming the forgettable Buick of the Japanese car makers. They could have done literally anything else with the Integra nameplate and it would have been better. Personally, I think they should have reserved it for their first electric model. Even if they kept the four doors and meh styling but actually made a car that could actually compete with the Model 3 in both price and performance, that would have been huge. Hell they could have taken it a step further and used the name for an entire range off electric cars and given a sedan, coup and even a sports car/roadster models. Can you imagine if Honda came out with an Integra branded electric roadster that was in the 50-70K range that had the performance of a Model S before Tesla could come out with their half million dollar ridiculous Roadster? Shit would hit the fan and Honda/Acura would be the talk of the world.

When you consider the fact that most people live in apartments, and that 99.9% of apartment (including co-op and condo) buildings cannot charge an EV overnight, it makes me wonder why our society seems to be rushing to EVs at the current rate. Yes, they do have some potential advantages, but if you cannot charge your EV overnight, you cannot take advantage of a major advantage they offer. Also, always using the local fast charger is not good for the long term health of the battery.

Eric, technically not the first “turbo 4-cylinder from the factory” by Acura. Remember the original RDX? Had that strange K23Z that everyone with a K24 robbed the exhaust manifolds off back in the day? Yeah, that one was the first Acura. I might be wrong but I, like many others, remember the RDX greatly touted as “the first”.
