In this video interview at Heart Rhythm 2012, Dr. James Reiffel updates us on new directions in drug treatments for atrial fibrillation. He talks about the combination of ranolazine (Ranexa) and dronedarone (Multaq), both used in lower doses, and about other coming atrial-selective drugs. He also discusses the rate control vs. rhythm control decision, which varies by age and level of symptoms.
Dr. Reiffel is an attending physician at New York Presbyterian Hospital, and a Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons.

I was on Amiodarone and I had all this side effects, a m not taking this medication any longer and I still have have problem with my eye my kidney I lost half if my hair and I still losing!!!! Thank Dr telling a truth!! 🙏

Drug discovery is a very long process, so work continues on the atrial-selective drugs. Regarding vernakalent, it is approved outside the US, but is not approved in the US. However, it was resubmitted to the FDA for review on June 24, 2019.
