One of the best handling cars ever made, and the fact its got a relatively quiet cabin, cruise control and a decent Focal speaker system makes these cars (in my opinion) underrated. I understand people who dont like the engine and the artificial pops and bangs but none of that is the point of the car, its all about the chassi and lightness. I have a regular A110 and im thrilled every time i get in it. And another bonus is that 80% of poeple look at it when you drive around since they are so rare in Sweden.
Don't quite understand your "but.." comments, and saying "£100k is a lot of money". What you obviously mean to say is "its a lot of money for a Renault when you could have a Porsche" etc. So I don't think you are being sufficient in your objectivity with this car. With EVO Magazine recently putting it a very close 2nd to the GT3RS which is twice as expensive should tell you where I'm coming from. I think Renault deserve more respect than they are generally given, especially when you think of their F1 heritage and complete dominance for many years when it comes to handling with their hot hatches
@@Shmee150 I generally don’t love french cars, but for a weekend warrior weapon, you could certainly do a lot worse than this. A used Porsche Cayman or Lotus would be worthy competitors, but I’d really like your informed opinion on the refreshed MX-5.
A Cayman or a Lotus would in my opinion be a much better choice. You will hear car dealers cursing French cars as things break on them like they were made to be broken! As a car lover I would go for a Porsche Cayman GTS
I am currently searching for the right lightly used A110 for me. Test drove the GT and absolutely adored it to bits. I mean, it was the comfortable version and totally chill to live with in city traffic and yet it turns into an absolute hooligan the moment you press that red button on the steering wheel. Perfect everyday sportscar in my opinion.
It is a brilliant sports car so fun to drive, glad you reviewed. Most people say the a110 ‘pure’ model is the one to get and differently cheaper. I brought one and can’t complain. It is so rare people stop you and ask what it is, it also so small and isn’t recognised as a sport car until it effortlessly zips past other fast cars. It makes it easier to drive in public because it under stating its sport car credentials. I plan to hold onto mine for a very long time.
you mention the Gendarmerie A110, which is quite cool because recently i had managed to spot the UK Merseyside Police A110 in Liverpool this week! they look fantastic!
As an American, but also a car nerd. I knew, by the lights in the front, that it was an Alpine A110. But, not that it was an A110R! One more cool car that we don’t get over here 😢
It makes me so sad that Alpine doesn't sell their cars in North America, means we won't see them here in Canada for many years to come. Still, at least we get to see them and experience them to a degree through videos like this one! Awesome stuff.
This is a car I think your collection is missing. That and/or the GT4 RS SSR CS which are both drivers cars that put a smile on your face without the lunatic price and power of hyper cars. They are performance cars in their own right and overlooked.
I am curious about the speed of the 110 r compared to a 992 Carrera gts on track. They have a pretty similar power to weight ratio, so it should be pretty interesting.
Blimey, you sit very close to the steering wheel. I love the look of the Alpine though haven't driven one . But I did race one on some local b roads in my somewhat modified MX5. I drew away on the corners but it quickly caught up on the straights. Was a fun race and when we stopped at some roadworks congratulated each other on our respective driving. Great way to spend time on the road lol...
I don't really like the looks of the normal A110 but the R looks really good and seems to drive sweet down country lanes which is what I like. The price though! wtf!
I want to drive one I got one on Gran Turismo 7 and I got it modified to the gills and I think it's just so 100% perfect I love that car so much and I remember I sold it a bunch of times because I didn't want it then I drove it and I'm like no this is not getting sold it's too good That's in the game I can only imagine how it is in person actually driving it and that's not the r version

Surprised you didn’t mention the very harsh suspension ? No compromise ! The A110S or even GT are so much more suited for the type of drive you had ! Also those burbles are so annoying, as you said they are absolutely the same every single time you lift off !
So glad you have finally gone 4k....👍 You can't half tell the one camera that was no in 4k though... LoL. Driving videos are so much better in 4k. The Green Hell videos are gong to be so much better.
A friend of mine bought this car a couple of years ago and this is MAD FUN and he owns a Mazda MX-5 and a Lamborghini Huracan! This car is SO light and SO easy to drive you won't believe it ! Super underrated fun track car !
I think the "regular" one with carbon wheels would be a better buy. I meant 34 KG ant that much. Removing weight where it matters the most would be cool though
Shmee! Hope all is well sir! I know I’m a bit late but as for the video with the R34 GTT(R) replica, have you gotten to experience the FL5 Civic Type R? I’d say it’s arguably one of the best future classics as far as JDM cars go! Semi-compact, reasonable power, and the best performance out of a FWD car to date! Definitely will need an exhaust but would make a great shmeemobile imo!

I love the Alpine and I would have a lot of fun driving one, but It looks just way too small, would get me claustrophobic, not even sure I can fit in it. How does it compare to a Toyota Celica? That’d help to understand the scale.
I bet there is a tuner out there able to make it around 350 ps. Or able to transplant the 2.0 liter engine from a Megane RS tuned to 400 ps. THAT would make it a real weapon.
Decent little car, but those pops would have to go. I'd be driving straight to a tuner to remove them. And Tim......it might be time to junk one of your cameras, the forward-facing cam in this video is trash, so blurry. maybe from the vibrations, but the other cams were fine.
