So recently the standard, newer style Amrep grippers with the single hydraulic cylinder (seen on most Amreps today) on my greenwaste truck were replaced with a set of the classic dual-cylinder grippers (the ones Amrep used on their automated trucks pre-2011). It's pretty uncommon nowadays to see a new pair of the old-style clamps pop up as they have a reputation of eating carts to pieces, but they are often favored by drivers and mechanics alike. They're far less touchy than the single-cylinder clamps, making squeezing between closely placed carts much easier, they provide much better grip on heavy carts, and the greasing points are much easier to access than on the newer ones. I figured it was only a matter of time before I saw a pair end up on one of the city's newer trucks and it just so happened to be one of my trucks. If you ask me these older clamps combined with the HX450 body and the chassis-mounted CNG tanks the city uses give the truck a nice, smooth appearance from front to back. With this truck and the N3 I have picking up my trash, I'm not too disappointed with the full set of newer trucks I have rolling down my street nowadays.
