New Amrep ASL with Old Clamps - 36346

So recently the standard, newer style Amrep grippers with the single hydraulic cylinder (seen on most Amreps today) on my greenwaste truck were replaced with a set of the classic dual-cylinder grippers (the ones Amrep used on their automated trucks pre-2011). It's pretty uncommon nowadays to see a new pair of the old-style clamps pop up as they have a reputation of eating carts to pieces, but they are often favored by drivers and mechanics alike. They're far less touchy than the single-cylinder clamps, making squeezing between closely placed carts much easier, they provide much better grip on heavy carts, and the greasing points are much easier to access than on the newer ones. I figured it was only a matter of time before I saw a pair end up on one of the city's newer trucks and it just so happened to be one of my trucks. If you ask me these older clamps combined with the HX450 body and the chassis-mounted CNG tanks the city uses give the truck a nice, smooth appearance from front to back. With this truck and the N3 I have picking up my trash, I'm not too disappointed with the full set of newer trucks I have rolling down my street nowadays.
Thanks to Victor as always. Filmed January 2018

The older clamps make the truck a little more normal. I still can’t believe the WLA yard got 281 and 260, When the 520’s come it’s gonna be fate for the 05’s unless they decide to send more out to different yards. Great post!

Excellent video Tony! These new Amrep units seem have been broken in nicely since I last watched. First time I recall seeing some manual packing from these new units too, appears as if there is a throttle advance to 1400-1500 rpm versus manual throttle. It’ll be interesting to see how these units do in Phoenix

yup, these newer trucks still have an auto neutral feature that can be used during manual packing and unloading. Thanks!

That truck was just brand new and on that route it had already nearly dropped in 2 bins.
