I recently embarked on an artistic journey that took me out of my comfort zone and into the colourful world of children's art supplies… I realised how I was used to my preferred mediums and techniques, this was a delightful challenge that brought out my inner child and creativity in a whole new way.

I have only recently realized I also have aphantasia! I had no idea people could actually picture things in their mind! It answers a lot of questions, especially about memories. I also experiment with abstract painting and I wondered if aphantasia was affecting my confidence in mark making, because I can't visualize them. 🤔 I enjoy your videos! 😊

It's truly a remarkable journey of self-discovery when we learn about our own mental processes. Aphantasia is a fascinating condition, and it's interesting how it might influence your approach to abstract painting. I think it can be an advantage! As it may lead to more spontaneous and intuitive mark-making. Trust your unique perspective and embrace the beauty of creating without preconceived images. Your art is a reflection of your individuality and creativity! I'm delighted to hear that you enjoy my videos, and I hope they provide you with inspiration and new perspectives for your art. Keep experimenting and embracing your unique creative path!

It's great Anita! I use crayons, although I tend to melt them and smear them a bit.

Thank you! Melted crayons! That sounds like a fantastic and creative approach! Perhaps I should try that too 😁

I don't have aphenesia, however I do have synesthesia, which is another interesting thing and, like your husband, I thought everyone had it until my husband didn't know what I was talking about when I spoke of seeing numbers, the alphabet, the calendar, all the years of time, etc., laid out before me in my mind in specific shapes and lines.

Oh wow! It's fascinating to hear about your experience with synesthesia! The way you perceive numbers, the alphabet, and time is truly unique and must add an intriguing dimension to your perception of the world. It's often surprising when we discover that not everyone shares these sensory experiences. Thank you for sharing this glimpse into your world! 🌟

Anita doe you have an image of what your finished product will look like when you start? I wonder if I have aphantasia, I am never able to predict what my finished product will look like. I just go with the flow. Thank you for the inspiration!

I never have an image. I'd probably be disappointed if I did, and then it wouldn't go as planned ((( It sounds like you have a wonderful intuitive approach to art! Embracing the element of surprise and not planning too much can indeed lead to unique and exciting outcomes. Aphantasia is something different. It’s when you don’t have any images at all. Your brain is not capable to bring up your memory or thoughts in pictures.
