@@Undeadwolfy_ Why would you wait for the core ultra 9 rather than purchase with Ryzen 8945HS? Intel CPU is less performant for both single and muti core. It's also less power efficient and has far worse integrated graphics too
Any word on when your 2024 G14 4060/16GB vs 4070/32GB video will be out? I’m torn as the latter isn’t available yet in Australia and the former is on sale!
Im just waiting for next years Asus G14 Strix Halo: Threadripper power (16-core Zen 5) meets 4070M+ graphics (40CU-RDNA 3.5) in 1.5kg. sound like the perfect Laptop.
yup same here :) Not sure if they will have the G14 in a configuration like that. They usually have a dedicated GPU. Unless they do like a G14 Halo edition....with a free copy of Halo: Master chief edition :P
I hope that future AMD Apu laptops will have the max ram speed (7500mt/s or even higher limit of the future Apu). Because the 780m in this year's g14 only has 6400mt/s while Intel meteor lake has around 7400mt/s. The 7840u in gpd win max 2 and Lenovo legion go has 7500mt/s ram, so I don't know why laptop oems don't provide that speed for their laptops.
I love everything about this laptop. Mostly the design. I never liked gaming laptop designs, the sharp edges and obsession with rgb lighting on the outside, they were clearly designed to stand out. The thickness and weight were also a secondary problem. I love the thinkness and weight of this and that you cant tell this is a gaming laptop unless you are a gamer. I also disabled the slash lighting and made a cover to hide it. The rog logo doesn't bug me because it very subtle
Were the gaming benchmarks also in Performance mode and not Turbo? Could be scoring lower because Asus didn’t tune the Performance mode well this year. But overall it seems nice, but the 2023 model seems preferable for better performance
Ok yeah, just confirmed that all the benchmarks were run in Balanced. Just watched a review that got MUCH higher scores across the board in Turbo. I think this will cause some misconceptions in people’s heads (it already is on the G14 subreddit) that the new G14 performs terribly, when in reality Asus just tunes their Balanced (Performance) mode differently on every laptop, every year. Benchmarking Turbo to Turbo makes more sense to understand the true capabilities of a machine, especially since these are “benchmarks” after all. And then of course throw in some benchmarks in Balanced and Silent to balance things out and offer more perspective. Overall very thorough and excellent review though! I just think it should’ve been made more clear about the Balanced/Performance mode thing, and what that means for the benchmarks provided. Also I know it’s kind of Asus’s fault too for naming their Balanced mode “Performance”. Makes no sense, so can’t be too upset about it.
@@JoshCravesTech Man, you said in your 2023 G14 4090 review to stay clear of the Turbo mode, if I recall well. Also, it would be better to test this 2024 model with G-Helper. But, in any case, I wonder how the new benchmarks compare to your 2023 benchmarks? Maybe it's better to get the 2023 version and slap a 48GB RAM for a 64GB total RAM. Just, can't be sure how the performance + battery life will compare. Basically, the real importance [to me] - is performance in After Effects + Davinci. But, no one talks about it. Everyone talks only bout gaming and framerates. Irony is, the people who play games- also edit videos. Yet, no one talks about video editing performance... :\
@@Bluesky35102 he should be here. One of the only reviewers that thoroughly tested the 2023 G14 and also talked about video editing performance for Davinci, Premiere, and After Effects.
Gonna wait for G16 reviews, performance, benchmarks, battery test for intel core ultra 9. I am confused about this pricing as well. Asus official website and Bestbuy prices don't match. Plus the color options too. I am more inclined to g16 due to grey color too. Nobody likes the white eye stressing keyboard.
I find it funny how they over compare these laptops with a macbook. Try getting a macbook with an nvidia, gaming on it and writting code to run on Cuda. Compare windows performance in both? Macbook with a windows virtual machine? Pricing?
This stupid discussion about soldered ram.. in 35 years I never ever neither in a desktop upgraded the RAM.. just buy what you need in the future and end of story. Soldered ram has massive upsides. Josh already mentioned one the other often overlooked: much more aggressive timing and speed as the lanes are muuuuuch shorter
Thank you for discussing the grainy "screen door" effect on many OLED touch screen panels! It's really important to me that the screen not be grainy. Gaming OLED laptops typicially don't have the touch screen so they don't suffer from the issue. I'm still looking for an OLED touch screen that doesn't have the issue, it's so frustrating! I like the new format but I think you should spend a bit more screen time going over the internal upgrade options.
Thanks for the video! I was really interested in 2024 model, but I think I'll stick with my 2023 4070 G14. Using G Helper on G14 goes a long way to make this laptop a very good experience. My G14 basically run cooler on all performance modes with undervolts and modified power limit. I especially love my modified Silent mode that I use for office work and entertainment (light use). Basically no fan needed! They never turned on, but laptop still run very cool at around 30-42 C based on CPU monitoring (comfortable keyboard temp). The only thing I want G14 to improve are the speakers, so I was really curious how 2024 speakers perform, expecting it to have macbook speakers quality. But based on your comment, I guess it's not as good as I expected it to be? I'm sure it's better than the 2023 model, but I need to hear it myself. Let's see if that Asus store near me put a 2024 G14 for display soon.
Hey Josh, would you say that this is a better laptop than last year's Zenbook Pro 14? They're very similar it seems and feels like the same laptop in a different chassis.
Positive - Love the coverage of the GPU vs. last years model, very informative. Negatives - There is a framework laptop with a dedicated GPU and I dont get the repeated comparisons to a mac as I assume this is a gaming laptop. High point - laughing at the concept of anyone giving a monkeys about the speakers on a gaming laptop, get some gaming headphones and play like a Pro.
Turns out it doesnt matter how good a GPU use - it could be a 4090 - if the cooling & power delivery are limited to 100w to the GPU, it will behave like a 4060 ...
1. Please include Video Editing performance in your reviews [Davinci / After Effects]. Not only Gaming, since some of us use those laptops not for gaming. 2. Word on the street is - OLED panels will be dead within 1-3 years of use. It's inevitable. So, all 2024 14" laptops are at risk. Pretty insane no miniLED/IPS option. 3. This 2024 G14 needs to be compared to a 2023 G14 with expanded RAM to 64GB [16+48 stick].
What laptop would you recommend for both gaming and programming. I'm not worried about the budget but I am however worried about the weight tho. Please help
Maybe I'm on the sensitive side, but the mic feedback on some of your recent videos has been making it hard for me enjoy them. I hope you can sort it out soon!
Get last years model with the 4060 under volt and over clock, CPU and GPU and I promise you it will perform just as well. Plus you can give it a Best Buy open box deal excellent condition 875 before tax.😅come on
I'm stuck between Asus ROG Strix G16 and Lenovo Legion Pro 5i. Can you help? Asus: i7-13650HX, RTX 4060, 512GB SSD, 16GB RAM Lenovo: i7-13700HX, RTX 4060, 1TB SSD, 16GB RAM. Which one should I choose? Both are similarly priced in my country. However, I've heard about Asus having a CPU heating issue. Could you compare them in terms of material quality, cooling, display, and performance? I am an architecture student, mainly using 3D programs and occasionally playing AAA games.
The hp transcend 14 is a better buy, seeing that it uses usb-c for its standard power. Though hp doesn't have g-helper :( and the omen big brothers have jet engine fan noise. It's an amd vs intel thing as well.
wtf single zone keyboard lighting?, at this price?, the G14 is not the cheap option anymore, 4070 that runs like a 4060??, you can get a brighter 2013 G14 with a 4060 for more than half the price
No diagonal stripe and a price more competitive with lenovo legion 5 slim 14 and I would have bought it. Instead i just ordered the lenovo one for less than 1300 euros including a 4060 and 32 gb ram. Similar 14.5” oled but no vrr, worse speakers and a slightly larger/thicker form factor but the g14 price is just too high for me.
I always like your reviews but I don't think this review is really fair. You're saying the sound is average but forget to mention it's the best sounding 14 inch windows laptop, sounding better than almost all 15-16 inch windows laptop, that all in a tiny footprint. Not fair either to say the 4070 is underperforming. It performs exactly where it should perform considering the wattage on it. Yes it underperforms compared to other laptop that are like twice as thick, but this laptop right here should be reviewed as a standalone.
The g14 with the 32 ram and 8945 and 4070 is impossible to find. It is frequently replaced with the 7940hs with 16 gb ram instead. Does anyone have a link for the one advertised in the video? I’m stationed in Guam / overseas and best buy will not deliver.
I just want to say I love your reviews and I’ve been watching you before you had 1000 subscribers. Anyway, I wish you would’ve had the Legion slim 5 14” in the comparison graphs.
Thanks for being with me for the journey! Wow. Yes re the Slim 5 14. You are right. We felt going into the video that since this is a new AMD processor, to compare it to a variety of other processors. But by the end of the video we felt as you do.... compare it to 14inch gaming laptops. That being said. Once we get all the 14inch gaming laptops in, we will do a video of them all to compare them. So that will be very focussed
i have a 2021 g15 it reboots for no reason ill have one tab open watching youtube and it willl just reboot out of no where i think i might got Razer next time
Wow.. Im surprised to see America finally profits us in money by having retail stores like besbuy having these computers on sale by hundreds of dollars.. but does that make up for the overall costs here in america? Most def not 😂
Yoga Pro 9i is definitely the one I'm hoping pulls through as my laptop of choice - I saw the battery is like 50% better than last year which is a huge +.
Hey Josh, your graphics score in time spy (9 121) is much lower than the ones obtained by another reviewer (EtaPrime) at 11 615, which beats last year's 4060 and Blade 14 scores in your graph. Perhaps you have run the benchmarks in balance mode?
Asus ROG doesn't have a Balanced mode. We ran Performance. He ran Turbo. Turbo adds 15 watts (10 base and 5 boost) to get to the 90w. We found that out after. We thought those settings only affected CPU. As we already had graphics performance set to Ultimate. Anyway, we will be doing an updated video with the G14 4060. This model will be in that video, too, with updated scores. That being said.... the 4070 is underpowered compared to other 4070s out there, and Turbo mode is insanely loud, so most people will want to avoid it. I feel our conclusions hold true. I would have immediately reposted the video if I felt we were missleading
@@JustJoshTech When will you drop the video reviewing the 2024 g14 4060 16gb ram model? Debating between that option or the older 2023 model with the 4060 and 32gb ram with a 165 hz screen.
8:50 "I think it makes sense to top out at the 4070 this year" >4090 maintains the best performance out of the whole RTX 40 Mobile series right down to 80W >proceeds to demonstrate worse performance than last year's 4060 version Um... sure?
This is the truth. And many reviewers always say that a 4080/4090 can’t be “cooled enough” in a small laptop, like you guys realize the die size makes the 4090 the coolest-running GPU out of all of them 😂
Just got my 2024 G14, been using it for a day now - so happy I bought it!! I got a great deal too - I bought an excellent condition Open-Box one for a bit under $1.3k, and the laptop & charger themselves were untouched/like-new.
I totally agree. I have come to point where I'm considering an upgrade and I've specifically been interested in the Asus G14/G16 versus the HP Omen Transcend 14. Can't wait for the Omen Transcend to arrive in the studio. Amazing review and I want to ask if you would be doing a review of the 16 inch version of the Asus Zephyrus line for 2024? Unlike the G14, the G16 for this year's Intel's Meteor Lake processesors. I'm curious to how significant the difference is when it comes to things like how much power is being drawn for it. I understand performance would likely be more but I think many viewers would want to know if the performance difference and overall experience is worth sacrificing the portability and what seems to be a dream come true of the G14 for this year.
After purchasing the 2024 G14, I agree with everything you said except for your evaluation of the speakers. I agree that nothing is better than the Macbook, but the 2024 G14 speakers are quite full, bassy, clear, and immersive. Even the review on Linus Tech Tips gave the Macbook and the new G14 an equal evaluation on speakers. These are the BEST speakers I listened to on any Windows PC laptop. Calling them "tinny" was a strange evaluation, as they don't seem tinny to me at all...
Interesting. We actually held a 2 hour session to re listen to it side by side with the MacBook Pro 14..... and... we bought a new Mic to better reproduce laptop speakers audio for you guys. We previously were using a vocal mic to record the clips we showed you in the video. Sennheisser themselves suggested a different type of mic. Anyway, we agree the G14's speakers are great, but we still feel the MBP 14 has the edge :)
@@JustJoshTech Notebookcheck always shows a frequency response measurement for the laptop speakers and the 2024 G14 is one of the best devices ever tested, with response virtually identical to the MBP 14 except for a little lack in treble (can be fixed with EQ). I think your review on this device is very well-made, and I like it, but I do not at all understand your evaluation on the speakers. All HP, Dell, Lenovo, and Acer Laptops have worse bass response compared to the G14/G16, except some old gaming monsters with Subwoofers.
@kavelab699 I'm going to be honest with you. We tested the G14 side by side with the Macbook several times as we were also confused. We tried multiple different songs. Even had 2 other people come in to listen. The Macbook Pro repeatedly sounded better. And yes we played with settings. Also because we couldn't demonstrate this to you. We called Sennheisser themselves to try to get a more appropriate microphone for recording audio from speakers. We ordered 2 new ones in. Even they could not reproduce the difference we were hearing. We spent hours on this comparison btw. Hours. Morale of the story if the Macbook Pro 14 is a 10 out of 10. G14 is a 8.5. So close but not quite there
Eagerly waiting for your HP Omen Transcend 14 review! I’ve seen people are generally disappointed with HP products so I’ve always stayed away from them. However, this new Omen laptop looks amazing from the look to the balance of components used. Crossing my fingers that the Transcend 14 will be a better buy than the new G14. I have the 2022 G14 which has been a very capable laptop for me.
I'm looking for a good all-rounder laptop. My main usage is programming but also want play some games from time to time. The display size in not taht important because I often have access to external display. I'm debating this G14 2024 and Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i 2024. My main concern with G14 is that OLED display degradation and burn in. Not sure what to pick, any suggestions?
Watching your videos; I really wonder how much you know about computers. Your lack of understanding on how CPU performance works and only comparing cinebench which is a best case scenario for Intel CPUs and not very "real world" really makes me think you aren't well versed in computer technology. Also the Intel Ultra 155H literally hits 107C in the benchmark run; meannig that whatever laptop it is in will likely only last 1-2 years because these temps tend to melt other components around the CPU. Also to have a 107C temp means that the actual internals of the chip are more like 120C+ which causes accelerated silicon breakdown. Meaning the CPU itself may fail rather quickly. Also when you talk about CPU power draw you can't even see its use case in various workloads since you are only testing a synthetic run. This is also why Apples chips look so good, because this is the ideal synthetic test for them.
I have 2 degrees in Computer Science, and a 3rd degree from MIT. My specialization is in high performance coding, and worked in that capacity for around 13 years in various large and small organizations. Some of which are very well known. I have also studied Operating Systems from a fundamental level. I agree with you re Cinebench not being real world. In fact on my channel I do my best to educate people on that i.e. if the laptop is designed for light use, Cinebench heat and fan noise results are not going to be representative. I would suggest taking a look at my video on How Much Memory You Need. I hope that you'll find that one comes from a fundamental Computer Science perspective.
@@JustJoshTech Thanks for your reply. I appreciate that you actually replied to me. As a software engineer and low-level programmer myself, who dabbles in the world of hardware for the past 20 years now, I just am skeptical when I watch RU-vid these days as so many channels have gone to a more marketing focus rather than a technical focus. Some constructive criticism; I think you should definitely have charts on the screen for more than one to two seconds per chart. There were actually a few charts in this video which appear for less than one second, which became frustrating to actually click through the video to look at them. Instead of only testing a laptop with a Netflix video, you should also do RU-vid as the file format is not the same and neither is the playback medium as internal Netflix is unfairly optimized for different CPUs. I also think your battery life comparison test should be more complex than simply watching a video as I don't personally see this as being a real common world use case from the people that I know as well as my company experiences. You should maybe break it down into categories for video consumption, productivity which would include web browsing, email, maybe some spreadsheets, light photo editing, and other such common-day tasks, And gaming, which you could play some light games, which are not GPU-heavy, and see exactly how long the battery would last. Nothing AAA that people wouldn't actually be playing on these lightweight laptops. Lastly, I find that the gaming tests, playing only League of Legends or CSGO, really should be more of an on-the-go battery life type test, because League of Legends is a very light game, and CSGO is also quite light and really doesn't show off what a laptop could do for gaming. While I'm not saying to do a million charts and graphs the way that other extremely technical RU-vidrs do, just a general synopsis of how these things actually are and maybe a couple general graphs of how well they did in terms of average FPS and battery life and temperature while gaming would make the reviews a lot more insightful rather than just covering the specs and talking about skin Temps. This is why I was very surprised when last week you chose your favorite laptop as being the HP Spectre which has a CPU that runs at over 105 Celsius whenever it is being used which is quite a big problem overall because of just CPU & general component longevity. I've owned as well as attempted to repair laptops which have Intel CPUs running at these absurd temperatures that have broken down over only one year or completely failed after sub two years due to extreme CPU temperatures. These laptops are not just from one brand as I have seen the problems on HP and Lenovo as well as Asus, Dell and Alienware. I personally have an Alienware M15 R5 as one of my several laptops, and I can tell you that the CPU cooler itself actually warps over time due to Alienware BIOS allowing the AMD CPU to run at 95-100C out of the box without spinning up the fans. This causes other components on the opposite side of the cooler to actually start to melt, including the main power wire for the motherboard. My family members Lenovo actually melted a fan shroud with an 11th Gen Intel and one of my employees / sub contractors had an HP that burned out due to similar heat issues with a 9th Gen Intel. Anyway I could go on all day about this topic and processes. Since you are a programmer; maybe you are able to create an automated benchmark software which puts laptops through their paces to offer more real world data to your general audience. Thanks for your time.
i would rather pick g14 2024 4060 laptop gpu over 4070 because of limited tdp and same vram, 4070 wont offer much of a performance over 4060. so better going with 4060 for saving few bucks.
The review we’ve been waiting for. Something that I can replace a MacBook Pro because all those tricks to get pc games working on apple silicon annoying as fuck
I am a high level League player, but there are others here who play different games. Taylor plays Valorant and CS2. And then others play Boulders Gate and a bunch of others. For gaming laptop videos, we try to ensure a variety of games are tested.
@@JustJoshTech Fair enough, but the only games the video stated had been tested on that machine were LOL and CS2, which do not require high specs, there should be a better focus on the strength of the laptop which is gaming. That was the reason I came to the video.
@@vyomdesai7510 I think 2024 model it's too much experiments for Asus. It has some pros and cons but still very contraversional. I like much faster RAM and design overall but I dont like cooling perfomance - it's very crucial especially at summer. 2024 with 4060 and 16GB RAM not a case for me

I’ve just been waiting on a detailed review of the HP Omen Transcend 14 vs Asus Rog Zephyrus G14 so I can decide which one I’m gonna get. Haven’t seen any full transcend 14 reviews yet.
Love the redesign. Just from a usability standpoint, two huge things are finally making me consider this laptop: 1. Moving the ports back so that they aren’t so far down the side of the chassis. 2. Removing the Ergo-lift hinge. I know some people liked it but as someone who actually uses their laptop on their lap around the house when doing light work on sofas, etc, this is a huge comfort thing. Most screens don’t go back 180 degrees anyway so I am not really going to be missing anything there either.
@@liiou4445 They say it is about saving space, but it is more about money. See how much it costs to have more memory. You cannot spec it lower and buy some more memory yourself anymore.
There are many sensible reasons. If you want slower & less efficient RAM, then buy a laptop with a modular RAM design. But the fastest RAM, fast with low latency, is now non-modular, like LPDDR5X soldered on Core Ultra chips. Most of us buy the RAM we need and are happy that we get the fastest that consumes less battery.
With your Netflix battery test was that running with the Igpu or the NIvida gpu? I am very interested in how long you could push the laptop on battery in quite mode with the gpu disabled. it would be nice if this new g14 could become a bit of an ultra book an times an pull numbers like the specter an pavilion in light tasks.
