As the new semester kicks off at the University of Houston, the FirstGen Forward Network has recognized UH for its efforts in connecting first generation students with scholarships, mentorship and success. Also, a UH College of Optometry study is focused on delaying vision loss and saving sight. By studying the front and back of the eye more closely researchers hope to better identify predictors of blindness, especially for those with diabetes. Finally, two UH sprinters blazed their way onto the Olympic podium in Paris; Shaun Maswanganyi and Louie Hinchliffe won silver and bronze, respectively for their home countries of South Africa and Great Britain in the men's 4x100-meter relay.
