New Automated Drilling Rigs - AMAZING engineering! 

I think a lot of people focus on the instantaneous speed of these automated systems and tend to think that they're quite slow. I can't speak for this unit however much of today's automation follows in the "just in time" or constraint-based theories. Is there any point in running the pipe arm at 100km/hr when it will spend a bunch of time waiting for the blocks to return to the crown? Not to mention the structural steel required to move large masses quickly. If your automation system can run consistently at a defined speed then you're able to be repeatable. And if you can be repeatable you can hone in on your costs, and if you know your costs then you can beat your competition. Just my 2 cents. But the rig hand in me wanted to ask if the rig was level with the tool joint bouncing off the table like that, or if that Iron Roughneck had ever seen a trip out, or how long the beautiful tubing job at the base of the mast would still look as good after 4 weeks in the field. lol. I'd personally rather work on this type of rig vs being covered in invert......

I love drilling rigs I would work on one if I wasn't too old especially the new ones

But a lost art has been lost on the new ones rip the chain man that was an art
