Nathan, The reason the self emptying bin didn’t get all of the imperials is because you just effectively created a dead head. The normal bag allows air flow through it while capturing the dirt. That Tupperware bowl is now effectively a clog in the air path. You need to allow air to flow through the bowl just like the normal bag does. Maybe cut the bottom of the bowl out and place a filter media that will allow air flow through it (maybe a scotch brite pad or a very fine screen (that would allow air flow, but would still would not be as good as the bag because all surfaces of the bad allow airflow)...
Lol I was shocked that a vacuum expert didn’t understand how a vacuum bag works. I barely know anything about them, but even I knew from the start that this wouldn’t work the way he was doing it. And it didn’t

Hmmmm there a physical switch where the dust bag slots into. Carefully inspect to see if the bag is fully seated and is inside the groove of the track where the bag slots into. If the bag is fully seated and the red indicator still lite, see if you can take a flat head screw driver and manually move the switch. Does the red indicator light go out? If not it could be a faulty switch.
Great idea, missing airflow like others said. I say use one or two of the square filters from the dust bin and add them as air outtakes which should solve your airflow issue while still keeping the system semi-reusable since the small filters are cheaper
A quick way to empty any full vacuum bag is to hold it up to the intake of a shop vac. I use a 2" shop vac without the hose attached and, while the gray plastic gate valve is sucked against the shop vac, pull/move around the bag fabric to loosen up the contents. A few clumps of pet hair may have to be pinched out but, even so, it only takes about a minute to empty a full bag. Even while tilting the bag away from the shop vac to pinch out pet hair clumps the shop vac makes it an easy dust free process and you're saving money while recycling. 💰♻️🌎
Do not, I repeat DO NOT do this to your i7+ or s9+! The the filter material of the bags is spscifically designed to not allow dirt to pass into the motor of the clean base and by bypassing this system you risk severe damage to the suction motor of the base. If you have already made the investment into this system it is imperative that you maintain it properly and this is not proper! You will damage your machine in the long run by putting unnecessary stress on the motor and by modifying the filtration system. It is simply not worth it to do this to your robot.
Vacuum Central Thank you for your concern. So I have made several attempts to make a bag less system and ended up using a part of the original bag from iRobot. I understand that if dirt and other debris may get into the motor which will damage the system. There a secondary filter down at the bottom which prevents the fine dirt and particles to get into the vacuum motor housing. Sorry for the confusion.
Vacuum Central After using a bagless upright at a vacation home, I couldn’t agree more that converting the Roomba is a waste. What I found is that emptying the dustbin of the bagless vacuum put so much dust back into the room, I had to take it outside to empty it every time. Otherwise, it was just a nasty process to empty the dustbin inside the house. I’ll never own a bagless vacuum other than a robot, if I can help it. And that’s why I plan to buy an i7+ shortly as it’s a bagged system. I don’t understand the attraction of a bagless system unless you use a a Rainbow and trap the dust and dirt in water.

Do not do this. You clearly have no idea how vacuums work. Air needs to flow through the bag to create a literal vacuum using negative pressure. You’ve instead created a clog by using a non-permeable plastic solid membrane. This will not empty the contents of the roomba well and will cause unnecessary wear on the turbines.
I though you need to make a venting side at one side of that container. The air that needed to deliver those dusts to the container would makes a pressure at some point and would open it. Just make a hole and cover it with the linen from the original bag...
Hi Nathan, for Ecovacs AES. Is there any way to know if the bag is full without physically checking the bag, like some sort of notifications on the app or the indicator light from the AES itself?
There a small crack in the lid to allow airflow, and the lid was lifted up slightly after running to allow additional airflow, probably not as efficient
please buy 1 hepa sheet for home vacuuming combined with a plastic dust container I think hepa filters for house vacuum cleaners are rarely replaced we can use them in combination with homemade plastic boxes to make a bin Homemade container can increase suction power
I too choked when I watched this, because of the lack of an exhaust to the bin. I am going to build my own prototype/alteration to the existing bag system. Instead of replacing the bag for a plastic bin, I'm going to purchase a spool of sew in zippers and hot glue a fine toothed zipper to the back of the bag. Then unzip the zipper and cut out the opening. Airflow will still be at the same volume as before, but I will have easy access to remove dirt and debris. Since the material is made of fibrous plastic and plastic parts, I can even wash it with soap from time to time. My main reason for doing this? I purchased this for my vacation home in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. While I *can* order these bags there, they are more than triple the cost because of import and tax fees. So getting the maximum life from a single bag is super important. If this works, I'll be able to simply stick a few in my bag when I fly down and never need to pay the crazy import taxes!
Yes thanks for sharing your experience, I think a breathable material would be best, a sealed system like a container doesn't work well with the vacuum system.

Do you think it would work better if you cut another hole in it and put a piece of cloth over it to let more air through the Tupperware? I'm thinking the motor has to pull the air from somewhere, and I'm thinking it goes through the gap between the lid and body of the Tupperware. If you lessen that restriction, would that allow more air to flow from the Roomba's dustbin and clean out more debris? (I'd put the hole with the cloth on the top side of the Tupperware (the side that faces up when it's installed into the base station).)
Don't know if you ever got to posting another video on this but it's an easy fix. Cut another hole on the bottom of the Tupper ware and tape a dryer sheet or some other filter media so itll "breath more freely.
Hello everyone, so let me clarify some things which I failed to show in the video. The video itself is not fake, some candy did make it to the container. There a small crack on the lid to allow some airflow but while I was running the self emptying bin and filming the lid did lift up slightly to allow additional airflow. While the bag is more efficient and would of pulled up more candies I am still perfecting this bageless system. I think using the breathable bag material to cover the bottom might help, I will be posting another video of my improved design and see if I can film the inside of the self emptying bin in action too 😁. Sorry for the confusion and this video wasn’t designed to be misleading or fake in anyway.
The idea itself is brilliant. Don't apologize that the idea hadn't yet been perfected-it still opened others up to the idea that there are other options instead of wasting your money on the bags.
The reason why it's not working properly is that your container is sealed. With a sealed container you are cutting the vacuum from the robot to the base. I just used the container as a lid for easy access but still use the bag which retains vacuum from robot to base.

@@RobotMasters I tried roborock, but I didn't like it as much. It just didn't do well on my rugs. I did just find an idea on Etsy. Cut a hole on the top of the bag and sew or hot glue a zipper on the bag. The bag isn't a huge deal, but irobot really stepped back into the 80's and 90's with it.
Am i the only one who recognises the sarcasm in this comment? 😂 You really don't have to be a rocket scientist to understand that air has to pass through the container to be able to work at all. Else the manufacturers would obviously construct these things already with closed containers.
Hm i don’t understand why people don’t simply remove dirt out of the original roomba dirt bag? That’s what I’ve been doing and haven’t had to replace the bag since I purchased the robot 6 months ago
Great idea!! You should sell this concept to Roomba and get it patented. I don't want to have to buy bags all the time. We have two dogs and the hair is never ending. Those little bags would probably hold maybe 3 days worth of hair. So, this is making Roomba money, because now, I will buy one. Thanks!!
bagless option is so easy to implement as SHARK somehow could implement ; ) (but not the most expensive robots on market hehe) - it is for sure only to steal Your money.... 1 bag for 2-4 weeks x12 a year gets expensive and time consuming to buy it. This is why i will buy Shark not this.

Great idea, great intro, everything is great, but there is problem, it can't work, because you need a filter in that bin, or another hole with filter, this must does not work properly, another better idea for this is to buy a more use bag or universal bag for normal vacuums (it is on aliexpress for 2 $ and less) and fit it into bin AND I'M IN VIDEO!!!!! YAAAAY :D If you want, i send you email with my ideas to solve that problem, if you hating buying spare bags
Sure thanks for your suggestion and support, I do realize I didn’t show a hole and thought the entire container was completely sealed. There was a small crack at top and when the self emptying bin ran the container open up the lid slightly to add additional airflow so it technically worked. I will have an updated video
Did you know you can make the robot self-empty without the app. All you need to do is to tap on the home button on the robot when it’s docked and it will self-empty!
It’s clearly not very bright idea because unless you cut a hole in the Tupperware and fill with some sort of filter material that will allow air to pass freely then the motor is going to burn out in no time at all

I wouldn't hold my breath on irobot doing something better when they have a product that needs constant replacement for another revenue stream that they can overcharge for. Now another company maybe, but even then they'd be better off making their own bag or buying the same bag from whoever is actually producing it for irobot and sell it cheaper.

Wait wut it worked? I didn’t doubt you could but I thought the bin was more like a normal vacuum there’s a motor that goes into a chamber with a bag the bag sits in the chamber connected to another tube which then the MOTOR* turns on sucking out the air in the chamber meaning the little holes in the bag sucks on the second tube making the vacuuming So if the contain doesn’t have holes then HIW IN THE HOLY MOTHER OF F### DID IT WORK, ?!?!?!?!??
