That heel counter issue looks brutal. Phily Bowden said she had chosen to size up in it before her Houston Marathon because of it, so sizing up might be exactly what's needed. It seems like a pretty critical thing for New Balance to have missed in testing.
i imagine he hasn’t had this issue in other shoes- but it looks that he was running in thick, loose wool socks that likely caused a lot of abrasive movement
Funny, i already have the sc elite v4 and i run in it a couple of times already and i find it quite excellent. Its comparable to other plated super shoes ive tried. The plate is thinner but more aggressive. I felt it the moment i put my feet in it. The rocker geometry is quite noticeable too. The midsole foam is nothing like v2 or v3. No more mushy, sinking feeling with no bounce, this one feels like the next% but runs like hoka rocket x2. The upper is very breathable, lockdown.. well normal problems until you get it right, same as other shoes out there. I did experienced a bit of heel slippage, so i did a runner's knot and problem solved. The v4 is one of my favorite shoes for the last 6 months aside from superblast from asics. There are 6 colorways now available here in asia. The one with blue/gray upper with orange accent is very nice, i got the most conservative color which is black upper with chalk midsole with gray accent
I'm surprised NB can't deliver a truly top tier race shoe and not nail the basics. Disappointing when paying top $. My takeaway from your review are their are better race day alternatives at this price point. Maybe next year for SC Elite v5?
The Price is the biggest issue for me. I get why they priced it like they have because if Nike can charge 285 for alphafly new balance think they can charge 265 and under cut it But all due respect to new balance the sc elite is not the alphafly and you can’t just charge that sort of money for a shoe just because it’s a carbon plated racing shoe and that’s what Nike are charging for there one , the shoes first need to prove them self’s to be worth that kind of money and for that to happen runners actually need to run in them and for that to happen you need to give people a reason to pick your shoe over the competition If there as good or better then the competition there become popular and they can charge that kind of money. At the moment why would you buy theses when you can get the alphafly 3 for 20 more or vaporfly 3 for 40 less or wave rebellion pro 1 or two for less , not too mention the adidas and saconey pro 3s for way cheaper or acis meta speed shoes ?
I wasn't really considering these as I've just got the Alphafly 3's (which are bl**dy brilliant!) and definitley won't be now! Thanks for the considered review guys.
I have the 3 NY Marathon edition. I like it but wouldn't make it a daily driver. I hate how they don't choose darker colors as an option. I find mine almost impossible to clean.
Seems like NB got a rough start in 2024 with plenty of cons from all testers as a Supershoes, unless you are NB fans if not perhaps just go for Vapor3 and Adios Pro 3 would be a much better choice😆
Thanks Keiran for putting your foot to the sword, literally for the channel. I saw this shoe first on Alex Filitti's channel & my comment was how much of a blister agent this looked like it'd be. A bit less rubber and normal collar would not have gone astray
NB should of stuck to the recipe they had with the elite v2. Why try to be like every other shoe out there. I still use my v2 for training and does very little wrong apart from being a tad soft but doesn't seem to slow me down in any way
I’m walking in mine this is my second 10 mile walk and they are digging into my ankles the backs of my tendons so much that I just called for me a ride they did not do this the first time so maybe I need new laces or something but this is going to have to be addressed fast
I’m in SE Asia and bought counterfeits a month ago for $30. I’m 99% sure the counterfeits were originals sold sideways illegally out of the factory because the quality was phenomenal. I’ve only put maybe 40 miles or so into them, but, I’m surprised about the heel counter complaint because I personally felt the whole fantomfit and heel counter were one of the best I’ve ever felt in any shoes ever. Cupped from the get go, and never let go, although I did end up heel locking laces which were too short for that. I sprained my left foot and have metatarsalgia in my right. The foam was so marshmallowy and bouncy I found I could remove all my shoe inserts and it was supremely comfy. Upper extremely breathable. Slightest breeze comes through the shoes. Overall, I thought they were fantastic shoes… with only one caveat, the sides of the shoes cupped up and the foam being so soft, didn’t seem good for anyone needing any sort of stability, and gave me massive blisters in the forward outer side of my arches aggravated by pronating which I usually don’t do much of, but in these I did. the sides pushed up the inserts inside and the inserts rubbed against my arches. I had to taped down the inserts in that area with moleskin and found it greatly improved the issue. But otherwise I thought these shoes were phenomenal- on par with my ASICS superblasts for its versatility but with less toe room, but more softer extremely forgiving foam. Just didn’t have any joint pains after running in them. Seems like the heel counter thing is an “individual foot” thing to me. I remember Kieran usually has totally different impressions of shoes compared to me so, I think his feet are just totally different to mine. I usually seem to like the same shoes Nick likes. other caveats, the outsole felt weird to me like silicon potholders that collapse to one side or the other, I would’ve preferred just traditional lugs or treads not the waffle design they used which felt weird to me. And the soft foam has already started feeling less softer even before hitting 50 miles, so not sure if the initial feel will last. Otherwise I felt like at least the counterfeits I bought felt absolutely fantastic and love the upper myself even though I wish they’d done what puma does with their power tape to give a little support for pronation. Well, ofc I just had counterfeits so just 2 cents and take for what you will.
Good Golly!!!!! That is one heck of a carnivorous heel counter. Between that and the added weight, I am going to pass on this one. Super shoes are so expensive and every brand has one (or more) model these days. The margin of error is very thin and the risk of being overlooked/skipped over is very high.
I find some of these reviews can be very biased, I’d probably be the same if I was sent free shoes. That heel issues is a failure and should reflect the overall quality of the shoes. Aswell as testing a shoe on easy runs? It’s not for that so why would you test it on easy runs? The carbon racing shoes should be left for racing and HARD training. This just promotes this easy run in super shoes culture that’s going on
@@TheRunTesters I don’t think you’d care what the shoe feels like if you were dying. But the point is no one should be lacing up a RACING shoe for an easy run.
How is it just one tester had the issues with the heel counter and others didn't even mention this ? Do you have similiar problems with other shoes or just this one ?
Hi (kieran here) it was me with the heel issues. I’ve tested 100s of shoes and have only had this one other notable time in the Puma Deviate first gen. It’s entirely possible no one else will suffer it. But thought it had to be pointed out.
@@TheRunTesters Thank you for the reply Kieran, I think I'm going to take a risk and buy this one to test myself. I'm a bit of a NB fanboy so hopefully it will be allright for me. Hope your feet heals quickly ! Regards, Tom
Where are your female testers? It would be handy to have male and female perspective so we all get a review. I’m more than happy to be part of any testing group of shoes so you are reviewing for everyone.
Acquistate e testate....
