New Battlestar Galactica TV Series Showrunner Announced! [Breakdown & Analysis]

This is something I am looking forward to(cautiously). I just purchased the original series and the reboot series on bluray and am enjoying both immensely. American television got a bad rap but it gave us some real classics like Trek and BSG!

Loved those Drum beats in the space fights. Made me imagine being there focused on taking out as many cylons as possible without dying.

If the BSG revisit is coming down the track I'd really like to see them really flesh out the "Blood & Chrome" era. We got a two parter for Blood & Chrome and there didn't seem any real interest in it as it was following straight after BSG finale. The attempted spin off was to open up the Cylon war (?). There's obviously so much to explore of this universe... everything from even back to the 13 tribes, BSG early days and those Cylon Wars that saw BSG's success and the reason why it was the made into the museum it was at the beginning of Moore's BSG. Even if they reimagined a slightly quicker paced "Caprica". There was potential in this spin off but it seemed the showrunners weren't too sure what they were doing and the how to get to the direction of Caprica. It was a very slow burn and it probably needed to be quickened by a factor of 5. Perhaps they were a little burnt out after BSG (which seems like "Blood and Chrome" suffered from too straight after the BSG series finale). As previously said, there is so much of this universe ripe for exploration. There is so much established lore if the showrunner/creators decide to choose the universe is gritty and in your face... if they stick with this there is every chance of another success...So Say We All.

Thankfully Im old enough to have watched the original BSG and then the reboot. Im excited for this iteration of BSG..........be interesting to see if they continue to have the regilous undertones.

Can we get the Fall of Kobol and the exodus of the 13 groups to form the 13 colonies?

OK this makes me feel A LOT better. The 2004 series is my favorite science fiction series. It hit all the right notes and emotion as someone actively involved in the Global War on Terror. It was engaging and objective on key issues without picking a side per se. There's a lot of storytelling that could fit in the universe of Battlestar Galactica. I was hoping for a continuation of Blood and Chrome, but c'est la vie. Also technically, they can always take it in a totally new direction following survivors left behind on the ruined Colonies. A derelict Battlestar could be the focus as they're left to rebuild and create a different direction- or even take off in a different direction to colonize somewhere else and become a prequel to the Classic Battlestar. After all, "All of this has happened before and will happen again... And again." Great content as always!

This needs to be about the first cylon war with all the different Battlestars, especially if they could squeeze in the original Galactica/Pegasus Class !

Bring in the talent who ran The Expanse, easily the best sci fi show is some time.

If they are looking for new content, "The Last Starfighter" would be a very interesting source material. The movie has a lot of ideas that would make it a perfect fit for a series: the hero's journey, undercover androids replacing humans, a love story, the underdog newbie who becomes the last hope of the universe, a frontier wall that fails to hold an alien invasion, a traitor's madness, a nearly invincible Jem'Hadar-like enemy, a hero's girlfriend who fights aliens on Earth, a promising academy of fighters, and so on.

Imagine movies that weren't; woke, agenda driven, & female empowered. Rather character driven, logically written, and creative... imagine...

Without being a reboot, I can only see the series going back in time since the title "Battlestar Galactica" implies the ship Galactica herself... unless that's just going to be a franchise tag, which I find unlikely since it's such a singular focus in the previous two series'. The spin off movies had secondary titles and Caprica, it's own thing in the same universe, didn't.

I'm just watching the pervious versions for the first time and it is a absolute BLAST

There's a hundred years of space opera stories out there, if that's what you want to do, why do we have to keep going back to the same handful of old TV shows again and again? How about a Lensman series? Plenty of material there, and the only adaptation I know of is a generic anime from the 80's. Don't like that? How about David Weber's Honor Harrington series? Tons of novels to work with and the lead character is already a woman, so no need for gender swapping. How about the online shared universe Orion's Arm? It's an excruciatingly detailed reality that stretches across 50,000 years. I'm sick of remakes, reimaginings, and reinventions, however well intentioned. Take a chance, try something new.

They COULD pick up BSG: Blood and Chrome. They built and still have high rez , extensive digital sets and assets and have them still. Plus, as the show is still going to be Battlestar Galactica, having the actual ship seems neccessary. BSG Blood and Chrome takes place during a period where the ship still exists.

I like what I'm hearing so far, adding to the BSG mythology without rehashing the previous two series. So long as the director, producers, and writers respect the lore established in Moore's series, I'm all for this.

BSG 2003 is simply perfect. Just leave it in peace. What I think could be interesting is not a remake, but a sequel to that series: rest of the Adama group has been found on Earth and a new expedition goes to find the original 13 colonies.... that would be a wonderful continuation of this beautiful story .

I wouldn't mind a remix version of the '78' version (Absolutely no Boxey or Muffit). Keep the tone like 2004 version but "78" wardrobe (I couldn't stand the regular clothes thing) Massive space battles with laser guns (not bullets) and im happy!

The industry has a quota system for shows to be considered for awards, so many performers characters of certain ethnicities genders sexual preferences, to the point where it is counterproductive. Hopefully they will focus on good story and not engage in pandering.

I hope to god this won't be an ultra-woke version that pays more attention to Hollywood's modern-day "Message" than quality Battlestar Galactica storytelling.

So far For All Mankind, Silo and Star Trek: Picard (season 3 only) have been some of the best sci fi on tv. I hope we don’t get a modern day Stars Wars level of quality.

I'm excited, but, I'm also cautious. I'm not cautious-feeling because I think the show will be bad. I'm cautious because Caprica was cancelled, and tons of other really amazing shows all over TV have also been cancelled after only one season without ever giving those shows a chance to develop a viewership. The last BSG came in like a stealth show because no one really knew about it or watched it for the first 2 seasons until it blew up. If this upcoming version follows that same track it's likely to be cancelled before the first season is even done because stupid faces wearing suits in corporate offices want everything to perform like Stranger Things out the gate and if a show doesn't make people have eyegasms, and get a bazillion viewers a day, corpos are killing everything these days. In that sense, I'm cautious because I'm going to hate getting invested in a show just to see it cancelled like so many others that are super good but get cancelled.

The reason you need a Reboot is because most of the Characters are Dead and good shows have great characters. I hope they learn from Top Gun Maverick and Aliens 2 where great characters, good dialog and story can help tell the deeper philosophical stories they want to actually tell. While we want it realistic, we actually want Realistic Fantasy because we are all watching Science Fiction trying to get away from reality. As great as BSG was, we want great Visuals and Sound in Space to take advantage of home TV and Speakers. You want to include as many people as fans, not reduce the number of fans and kill the show's revenues.

An ideal for the new series. Humans of the Colonies of Kobol have created the Cylons like in the second series. Like in the second series, the Cylons had revolted against their creators. Then the Colonies of Kobol had fought a war lasting for a Century. Tired of War, the Cylons and the Colonies agreed to an Armistice. A century has pass, the Colonies have built a large fleet of ships in case the Cylons break the Armistice. Now atter 100 years, the United Colonies of Kobol are assuming that the Cylons will not break the 100 year peace. Oddly due to the 100 year old peace, the Colonies have become overconfident. The Cylons do remain a major threat. During the last one hundred years, the Cylons have evolved and created their own civilization. The Cylons continue to see the Colonies as a threat. They want to continue the peace. But for them, there are signs that the Colonies want to start another war. This time, the Cylons have made plans to conquer the 12 Colonies as a way to preserve their civilization. Mostly as a sign of respect for the Colonies, the Cylons have agreed to use their plans only they perceive a major threat by the Colonies. Oddly seventy years after the war, an alien space probe had enter the space of the 12 Colonies. The origins of the space probe. It seems that the alien space probe was from Kobol itself. Yet while the space probe was created by humans, its age is less than thirty standard years. Unknown the to Colonies, the probe' is from Earth. 30 Years later, the technology of the Colonies is advance. and close to the creators of the probe. Oddly during the last thirty, there has been a lot of movements which focus on the Mythical 13th Colony Earth. Many Colonists claim that the alien space probe's creators came from Earth. So many Colonists begin to figure out how the people of Earth think. Ironic the Colonies have enter a period of stagnation. The government is being run by forces whose interests don't serve the Colonies well. While it seems that the Colonies have enter a Golden Age, some in the Colonies have claim that the Colonies are entering a Dark Age. Some want the Colonies to start to explore the unknown regions which are not belong the Armistice Zone. Unknown to the Colonists, the so-call Golden Age is perceive as a major threat to the Cylons. Since the arrival of the Earth space probe thirty years ago, the Cylons have made plans of conquering the 12 Colonies. Oddly some in the Colonies began to suspect that the Cylons have been interpreting the advances in technology as a major threat, but they are often seen as crazy. Yet for the military, it assumes that the Cylons are planning another war. The Military decides to start exploring the Unknown Regions which don't border the Armistice Zone. By exploring these Unknown regions, the Military is trying to convince the Cylons that the Colonies want peace. Yet the central government has decided that the Cylons are no longer a major threat. To please the Military, the Central Government continue to focus on exploration, but not one the which may convince the Cylons that the Colonies want war. Like before, the Cylons invaded the Colonies. The Cylons have surprise the Colonies. Oddly a few of the Battlestars have survived the surprise. Now the Battlestar Gaoctica is leading a large convoy of civilian ships. On each of the ships, there are refugees who survived the invasion. The Convoy is searching for the mythical Thirteenth Colony Earth. In the Colonies, the survivors have found themselves under the rule of the Cylons. The Cylons are using Human leaders who are puppet rulers Oddly due to surviving Battlestars, there are some colonists hope that the crews of the surviving Battlestars. Oddly most of the Battlestar crews have decided to harass the Cylons and their puppet rulers. The harassment was design to protect the Battlestar Galactica and its convoy. While the rest of the surviving Battlestars search for the planet Earth, the Convoy survivors are plaque by meaning less conflicts. As the Battlestar Galactica and the convoy search for Earth, there are some signs that Earth may have found the existence of the 12 Colonies. Oddly the Cylons want to prevent the Convoy from finding the Earth. Yet because one sign of earth, the Convoy survivors are starting to hope while dealing with the problems still plaquing the Convoy.

Battlestar The Message is what we will be getting. Current day Earth message for modern audiences. No thanks.

Casting will be a major challenge for them. If they get it right awesome. If wrong laughing stock.

As long as it isn't another woke series I will watch it. If it is woke SJW garbage like they did with series like Picard and Dr. Who I will turn my back on it. I am tired of modern folklore heroes being replaced with the political flavor pet of the day.

I hope it won't be a reboot but rather some continuation of story in the universe/ stories from other characters, people or cylons or even look in the the historical events, like what happened to cylons and people who stayed behind, also many side story possibilities... etc etc..

How can anything compare with what Moore masterfully created in 2004? Even though it was 20 years ago, it's still better than most of the $hit on TV now. It never should have been cancelled when it was. As much as I loved it, the series ended in a trainwreck of compromise and disappointment so much so that it hurt. I wish someone would continue that series but remove the finale from cannon by making it someone's bad dream, and putting Katee Sackhoff at the helm. She hasn't aged much in 20 years, that's what I want to see

How about back to Caprica? It would be the trip in reverse, millions of years in the future.

Wondered what happened to the people or were they all cyclones, not like one eye, but the cylons that look like humans?

Frankly, I didn't like the last BSG series very much. Oh, I like certain elements and occurrences within it. But I thought the most recent BSG universe was too close to our own, allegorical, as was described in this video. It wasn't "bad," just lacked the escapist approach of the original series. And it moved way too slow, in my opinion, more a drama with a long story arc instead of the sci fi adventure I was hoping for. I never felt carried away to another part of the universe, feeling, instead, that BSG was just a stand-in for our own. I recall a classic rock song even being employed in one weird episode which only served to further take me out of the story.

Ronald Moore perfection? My oh my what a crock. Destroying several characters, removing alien words, making cylons space terminators instead of p'd off aliens who transferred their souls into technology at the insistence of a sinister alien entity known as Count Iblis, no more futuristic weapons bullets instead of plasma, making the characters names actually call signs, etc. That is just some of what turned me off big time to Ronald Moores version, I will say the role of Adamah was really well cast.

Seems promising that the show runner is going to respect Moore's work but how do you retell this story again? To me, it does not need retelling.

I am really looking forward to this new installment of BSG. I was 19 when the original series came out in the 1978/79 season, and 45 when Ron Moore's excellent reboot premiered. I'll be 65 in a few months, so I really hope they get going soon! To me, the only possible means of "resurrecting" Galactica means going back in time to the first Cylon War. After all, the ship was flown into our sun 130,000 years ago in the finale of Ron Moore's brilliant creation, so it's not like there's any future for that particular incarnation of the ship. No, I'm thinking they'll *have* to go back to the birth of Battlestar Galactica during the first Cylon War to tell any new stories. I just hope I get to see it all before I die!

Im thinking either the 1st Cylon War proper, or a continuation of Moore's BSG, but starting in our near future (this has happened before and will happen again...) where we are repeating what happened eaons ago. How the Galactica plays into that though i have no idea.

They’re either going to screw this thing up royally or they’re gonna make something extraordinary. I seriously doubt that will be any middle ground. Though I will warn them if they go woke. Just hang it up now. The 2004 Battlestar Galactica was really good but it wasn’t all that the original Battlestar Galactica was phenomenal for its time and in my humble opinion, outclassed the 2004 reboot. Baltar hallucinations or whatever it was of the six really destroyed that show… stick with something realistic as if we all feel as if we’re all living it and we were the last of humanity running for our lives fighting to live another day and you will have something when you toss it all the modern special effects… keep it real. That was one of the few things at 2004 for the most part got right… minus what I said before about the Baltar thing

Moore's version sucked because of how it ended.

I hate to say this, but my favorite part of the 2004 series was the very end to see what the two producers would do to each other. I didn't really care for the series despite the fact I watched most of it. It did not measure up with the original series which was more interesting and had characters we loved. Plus they used Egyptian mythology rather than Greek, the latter of which I am sick of.

If they make this version as good as the 2004 reboot, I'm going to watch it. I liked that series because it delt with complex characters in complex situations and didn't fall back on cliche scenes or over used dialog.

ugh...Simonds has four whole writing credits and two whole producing credits, with no sci-fi. But we can hope...

Well, just listening to this, I can tell they're going to F it up!!!!!!! You know who gets screwed? The fans of the original series who have been CLAMORING for a return to those characters and that series for FORTY-FIVE YEARS!!!!!!! WE should have been the beneficiaries of the efforts of Richard Hatch to revive that series! Instead we get a bunch of people indulgjng themselves and advancing themselves by making a show that WASN'T BG, and should NEVER have been called that. They merely pimped out that name for recognition purposes. Richard Hatch's BG:The Second Coming is what the fans should have gotten. It would have been the closest thing to the original series, but it looks like the fans are going to have to take it on the chin again so some more GARBAGE can be made. I MIGHT try to check out what they make as long as they don't do that shakey camera shit! That's the reason I can't watch more than ten minutes of Moore's crap!

Maybe the new BSG version will deal with hot topics such as gender confusion, homelessness, proliferation of drugs in society, retail thefts and political egomaniacs that refuse to believe they lost the election, yay!

Only one request...dont make it woke. RM series touched multiple issues at the time without getting trapped in the political pitt. Creating a new series in the universe will let them bring new characters and may include RM charachters perhaps earlier in their life (young Adama).

This is why, this series, which it may, however, I have serious reservations, should begin who it all started. And what I mean, is, when the Colonies went to the aid of Hasaris. I grew up watching the original BSG. It has this type of "magic" to it, that came with the 1970s vibe. The Cylons were actually scary. Unpopular opinion, (I so tried to like it) I hated the reboot. Enjoy Moore's work in ST TNG, thought his work was so so with DS9, but saw his version of rebooted BSG, rather boring and repetitive. Which, his version, has not aged well. Watch Comet TV had aired the reboot, in an ideal primetime slot, along with overnight hours. It didn't last long at all. So, the ratings, were not there. If anything, AT LEAST, please make this news series, like the 2003 video game.
