Feels like they planned on releasing it as part of the droid depot lineup but backtracked at the last minute so the molds still have the potential space for accessories but they are just not completed.

YES!!!!! I opened youtube in my truck this morning to listen to something while I drive to work, imagine my joy when I see you are the first BD unit review on my feed! Instant watch for me!!! And yes, I agree with you 10000% they will release more versions and accessories, but I will bet that will hinge on success of this first version. Get out there and buy a BD if you want this droid series to have a future! (You can always sell this once you get the one you want later!) Bring on the accessories!!! I hope we get "shoulder buddy" legs!!!

I really like the BD droids, and I think this little dude is neat from the design stand point But I think for 100+ bucks it lacking any compatibility with the depot stuff is a real shame Like if it had chip comparability, or could use the accessories it be worth it But who knows we may be see a depot version in the future Could be another chopper situation where the accessories don't work with this one, but will with the one sld in the parks

Awesome review of the BD! I’m glad to see at least will interact with other droids. I wish they had allowed for accessories too. Thanks for the detailed review! Despite the cons, I think this is the best BD Disney can do that makes it both interactive and affordable. Really love BD’s sounds, head LEDs, and how its legs can still move on BD’s wheels. The completely manual head’s for sure a real bummer to many people since they’ll expect it to be as functional as the other droids. But I think it’s good since you won’t need to worry about it being heavy and additional part like motors breaking. However, I think the head’s wiring for the lights is still a concern. The long Bluetooth response can also be worked on. Nevertheless, still a great that, like you say, can be at a cheaper price. 😂

Interesting little guy and I’ve seen a lot of questions concerning him. The biggest is does he “interact” which he does as much as the others

the plastic for this one seems really cheap to me for that price... I wonder how it will work if you put on real metal platings on some parts and wheater that up, or will that become to heavy for it's movement and it might topple? I do really love the BD unit's though, but I would want to see this at a lower pricepoint

It's so easy to say it should be at a "lower pricepoint" when you aren't the one actually manufacturing, marketing, distributing, or selling it. Whatever you define as "cheap" versus "expensive" plastic would naturally increase cost. So asking for this at a lower pricepoint is a contradiction if you are simultaneously asking for it to be better made.

I found out about this lil fella just the other day, and I'm really interested in getting one, but for the price I'm really displeased with the lack of features. He's adorable! But I really wish it interacted with the other droids, and that the head could turn. Very cute but really debating whether or not I should get one, especially with the shipping cost.

It kinda feels like they designed the molds for a Depot droid, but then shrunk them down. The panels on the legs feel like massive hold overs from it originally going to be one. I really hope they do add it someday and this is just a temporary cash grab to get people to double dip.

Nice review... One major omission. Have you tried the Droid Depot app for the iPhone (android?)??? The other droids show up in the app, and the app controls them so much better than the included remotes. You can control speed and movement direction, including diagonally. So does it show up in the app? Thanks

I think its the 4th of the colored remotes? the classic white/red/blue, then chopper beige/organge/green, SK-620 white/orange/slightly diff blue [only buttons different], and now BD yellow/red/silver!

If and when I go to G.E. I might have to get one of these! It was a no brainer that the legs would walk instead of zoom around I kind of guessed that. Nice touch by the way Disney. Also my G.E. Tip is: bring TWO suitcases! One for clothes etc etc. (someone else might have said that but I don’t care 😂) and the other for shopping. Cant wait to go! Also where do you get the Bluetooth becon!?

I was only eleven minutes into the report when I learned something about R3-BOBO. I was not aware of the removable covers on the feet and when I checked him I found clear tape still holding the covers in place. Not much room under to cover but it might be possible to stash something in there. The kind of move a smuggler like Han Solo might do.

@@Dan-O One thing that seems clear is the the BD units have a different mainboard than the other units. First off, it is a 6 volt rather than 9 volt system. I think it also must have a new chips to support the light panel on the back of the head. And since the head does not move by remote control it is probable that the third motor channel has been dropped. I guess I will have to wait for one of the disassembly videos to get all the details. What I find odd is that with all the details of the removable panels the designers did not put the bright left eye LED in a shield to keep it from illuminating the head.

I kinda wish this was more like the Lola animatronic instead of the droid depot droids, it's still awesome and I want one really bad but I wish it had more movement and interaction like it would've been so cool if it flapped those little hatches and wiggled it's antenna and did it's beeps and boops in response to your voice like the Lola droid, it would have so much more personality that way

No mention on the scale. I would guess it's smaller than it would be if the video game was real.

Only "official" source on BD-1's size is the lego build placard - 0.47 meters (~17 inches). Shop Disney lists this at 10 inches.

I think the reason that BD wouldnt go off when the droid depot and cantina signals were active is there's alot of people with droids around there so it would get very annoying very fast if they did have them go off

Then why would they have it work for regular droids? That reasoning doesn’t add up. Also if there a lot of droids near each other, they go off anyways every 2 minutes so it shouldn’t really matter anyways.
