Fun fact about crepes: in my country it is so universally known that the first crepe in a batch always comes out wrong when you try to flip it, that there is a TV commercial for a particular type of pan that promises it is so good that even the first crepe comes out right if you use it. (I don't think anyone believes that commercial.)
I am so sorry it's been such a hard few weeks my friend❤ I hope your niece enjoys the book and I am so glad you will enjoy the minis that continue to remind you of those wonderful magical sisters😊 It would be great to continue to follow their journey!
I'm on day 8 of a new habit I'm trying to build for writing flash fiction every day. I use a random word generator to select 3 words and use that as the inspiration for a 200-300 word story. I'm trying to use it as a way to practice getting into a writing flow and also flex my creativity for thinking of different ideas. It's very much a stream of consciousness, something similar to a sketch book for artists and I'm having fun so far!
Your comment about how our stories never really leave us really resonated with me this morning. When I was a teenager, I had this idea for a particular story and only now do I have the skills to realize it. But it's been in my head for over 25 years now.
That's incredible!!! And HOORAY for having the skills to realize that story now. I'm sure all the work in your head these years has helped tremendously, too, while you were waiting for that skill gap to close!
I’m very impressed that your dogs don’t go after your food when you eat and it’s right there! Mine would be all over that! 😂 I remember MURDER MYSTERY TENNESSEE! I’m glad you’re returning to it! 💜 I’m sorry you’re going through a rough time. Sending ease your way!
My new hobby seems to be... watercolor? I've been practicing slowing down at the end of the day by reviewing my bujo entries, and after a cousin came to visit I ended up with a set of watercolor markers and stickers. Bringing these little 5 minute watercolor paintings into my pages has been a great exercise in centering myself and capping off the day! Sending you good wishes through your family's tough time.
I hope the rough stuff eases up for you soon ❤️🩹 Crepes are so fun! I make a different version (Palacsinta) and it's mostly down to the temp of your ingredients/pan and keeping enough fat on your pan to keep things from sticking but not so much that the crepes become heavy with oil. There's a flow when it works. For the first time recently I made flan (and also caramel as a first timer). Was genuinely shocked that they both turned out good actually 😮. Clean up wasn't as scary as I'd anticipated either 🎉
Ahhh I love that you are trying out gardening 😍 Me and my partner just moved to a new apartment a few months ago and it has a BALCONY and you bet I'm starting a tiny plant-pot garden up there! 🥰🪴🌱🌿 I hope you manage to keep your plants alive! 🍀
Ahhh thank you!! It’s so fun hearing that. It’s also fun feeling like I can do it justice now too. Truly living out how no story is ever written in vain.
18-layer crêpe cake is a SUCCESS if you've never made a lot of crêpes before. I'm sorry to hear about Sadie (spelling?) and other people in the hospital. Sending you and your loved ones lots of positivity!
Oh, hey! You read Finlay Donovan! Also, I'm so happy to hear that Murder Mystery Tennessee is making a comeback! That's great! Hope everything in your life is okay, I'm wishing you the best. I'm sending you all the virtual hugs and a bunch of support and good vibes.
I DID FINALLY! I really enjoyed it and will probably pick up the 2nd one soon! That cliffhanger/teaser was just too good. Thank you so much Elaine, sending all the virtual hugs back to you!!
I recently started the outline/brainstorming for a revisit of an old project! Writing has been a bit rough lately but I’m hoping this new old story will go alright this time around 😊
I hope it gets better for you and your family. Crapes seem so easy because they are just thin pancakes, right. Then you start making them, and it's not just thin pancakes. I'm glad you're going back to Murder Mystery TN. It seemed like a good story.
Thank you!! I think we're all easing out, slowly, of the worst of it. :) AND RIGHT. They are deceptively hard! Bahaha. I'm excited to try again soon, the cake was so good, and I really want to master the crepe flip. Thank you! I feel so confident in it now that the murderer is actually in the story and the zero draft is done bahaha. I can't wait to return after this round of ACFoC!
A budget friendly way to fill a raised bed, if you don't have yard waste, is to use top soil as the bottom layer. Then add the good quality soil on top.
Unsolicited gardening advice, its always good to give plants a thorough watering when you put them in soil. Good luck! Growing things is always a journey.
I'm always happy for any and all gardening advice! This is totally one of those topics where there is just SO MUCH I don't know. Thankfully I did water my plants right after I finished filming! And I did finally buy a new hose, so watering is much easier now too bahaha. And thank you!! :)
Kate, are there a lot of ticks in Texas? I just thought of them when I saw you walking in the grass without rubber boots. Almost all of Switzerland is considered a “tick danger zone”. You can get vaccinated against meningitis (but not against Borrelia sp.), but as I have a hyperactive immune system, I'm afraid of vaccinations. When I work in the garden, I look like a beekeeper, wearing huge wellingtons, long-sleeved shirts, a cap, and gardening gloves … 🤣 Oh, I've recently started drawing again, even though I was told at school that I had a terrible eye for perspective and proportion. I know how it feels when people you care about are unwell and even have to go to hospital… my heart goes out to you, Kate. ❤
My 17yr old sister loves to bake and is amazing at it. I'm a lot better at cooking. I've been editing a 160k beast of a manuscript for a client, but I'm ready to get back to writing on Friday ❤ My cover designer is working on next cover for my paranormal romance series. I really need to work on my human pen name books soon too 😅
Oh dang almost missed this *le gasp* also an update, my phone died while at Summer Moon so I ended up just reading more of Salem's Lot by Stephen King. (My roommate and I are working our way through all of Stephen King's books since they've never read them.)
IT WAS AMAZING. What others would you recommend if that's your favorite?? (We moved over to Fantasy High: Sophomore Year, but I'm not sure I love the "live" element, to be honest. Looking for another to fill the gap while we alternate.)
@@KateCavanaugh ahhh I’m so glad you liked it! the live element can be tough for sure. A Court of Fey And Flowers and Starstruck Odyssey are def my top recommendations! Fey and Flowers is very regency inspired fantasy with lots of romance and secrets, and Starstruck is retrofuturist sci-fi with incredible battles and lots of goofing. Both incredible but very different vibes lol. Or, if you want a mystery, Mice and Murder is incredible. People don’t talk about it I think bc it was done on Zoom, but it was so well done and the cast is hilarious. I hope y’all have fun!!!
I haven’t technically started anything new yet, but I am waiting to hear back about getting accepted into a mental health art program and I will be starting my journalism course soon as well. So with those both in mind I am hoping to use my RU-vid channel in conjunction with those.
When you said you had a goal to read something from the last century, I was thinking, Oh, she’s reading classics from the 1800s….. oh, wait…. 1900s….😭 I’m old.”
