They got those rods in some Walmarts already with the rod, reel, and 20lbs mono line ready to go for 80 bucks. So far I’ve been having good performance with it so far, works well with my Penn II combo
The only thing that I like about it is, you could cast out a crappy jig with it. The line sucks if you are in a garden infested area, but if you don’t like the line switch it to braided, you’ll be fine. The real could handle big spoonbill, but whenever time comes, we’ll find out
It did well on a big Striped Bass. Ignoring the massive birds nest that happened while setting the hook. Video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-QcYUDwgjSg8.htmlsi=o_aWBDsqcyoYLj8B
That reel reminds me of the Academy sports ProCat reel. One big fish ruined the ProCat's gears. If anything I would recommend the Catfish Pro combo as a good budget combo. I caught a trophy striper on accident with their combo and it really worked the reel hard. Metal gears last longer. A veteran owns Catfish Pro too. I personally never go to Walmart anymore.
Setting the circle hook, the fish aggression will depend on the hook set,a soft tip rod will need the fish to be aggressive on initial bite,if the fish is passive on the bite the heavy rod will work due to the fish not pulling enough to set the hook so the Angler may have to pull to help set the hook..
If You are setting the hook, then stiff tip will help. If the fish is pulling and hooking itself, then tip doesnt matter. I like the colors of this rig, hopefully it becomes your lucky rig.
Limber medium action are better for setting circle hooks imo. When it comes right down to it I guess it's just a matter of personal preference though. I do prefer the medium action rods with some bend in them as opposed to to the heavy action with no bend or very little bend in them overall for fishing.
I have started using MH Team Catfish Rods now and really like them. The heavy action Okuma Battlecats work well too. The tip of a Battlecat is very flexable.
Stiff rods are better for circle hooks in my opinion. I’m a Red River Catfisher here and i would totally use that rod Billy. But slimcat stole my heart.
Great video... I just did an unboxing last week on those only my rod is the med action. I like a soft tip to help with finicky bites. The owner sad the reels are made in China but they have a quality control to keep things to there specs.
I have about 40 rods and reels, that we use at different times for different conditions. About all we fish for is catfish, then blue Gill and skip jack for bait..the majority of where I got the, was from Walmart....worst problem I have had is the eyes breaking loose on 3 or 4 of them, replaced those rods with more from Walmart...I have fished them in local tournaments as well...
I've never had issues with the Longitude guides and Catfish Dave has cast out baseball sized knots through his (video proof here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-p-aJaAZZFLw.html ). Now I have heard of the spinning ones having issues. The eyes are much larger than the casting.
@@TNRVG ive had terrible luck with the longitude. First one the second ring from the tip came loose and sent it back. Second time I used the replacement I had a guide break. Maybe I just have terrible luck because I’ve had nothing but bad luck with okuma rods. I also have 2 15 foot tundra surf rods that the inserts fell out of the eyes. The reels on the other hand have been bomb proof. I have 2 okuma Coronado 80a bait runner reels that are over 10 years old and have been absolutely bullet proof. I’ve since been using bass pro’s ocean master rods and they have been great
I also hear very good reviews on the catfish pro reels. I myself would use them happily. I just recently bought their brand of circle hooks for experimental purposes.
I have the same reel from catfish sumo. It casts pretty good with 65# braid and unlike the okuma reels it has a spool tensioner to help keep it from getting bird nests.
I just hate how the butts of the rods are so big they don't fit into many, if any, rod holders. I'm gonna have to change rods soon so I can better catfish from my kayak!
I have the reel, and it is a good reel,a little tough to cast but ok The real joke is the bearings they brag about,it does have more bearings than some, but four are in the handle knobs, knows, would've preferred them internal, where the could've done some good
Well, the price is right for me. I can't wait to see you haul in a big cat on it and more of your reviews regarding the combo. Two thumbs up for Tackle Tuesdays!!
@@TNRVG this is the reason that I still buy the six and a half foot tiger rods , none of my clients like 7.6 ft rods they poke each other in the boat , stick out too far ,,stick up too far , keep a real big heavy fish far enough away from the boat that it’s hard to reach them with a net , harder to learn to cast with , I have a dozen or more ugly sticks and haven’t used them in years, people just don’t like having to deal with seven and a half feet rods. Billy I get some funny looks from other fishermen , there I set in my boat and they look and I have five or six kastking capstans,,140 each on a twenty dollar six and a half ft med heavy tiger rod , but hey ,,,that’s what my clients like the best.
@@TNRVG I bought a Kastking Brutus spinning rod, 5.6 foot medium power, medium fast action on Amazon for $34 and I absolutely love it. I use it to catch catfish, baby or up to 10 pounds and it catches them with ease. Also, i use a small 1000 size spinning reel.
