The last bike in Yeti's lineup to receive their latest and greatest tech is a mid-travel ripper. The 27.5-inch SB140 brings more capability to the table and replaces the SB5. A massive refresh includes 13mm of additional travel out back, 10mm up front, updated geometry, and all the other fine touches and features gained through Yeti's latest platform evolution.
SB140 Highlights:
- 27.5-inch (650b) wheels
- 140mm (5.5-inches) rear travel // 160mm (6.3-inches) front travel with shorter offset fork
- Switch Infinity suspension system with two-piece wishbone-style shock extender
- High-end TURQ and more affordable C-Series carbon models (220g frame weight difference)
- Tapered integrated headtube (41mm/52mm)
- Custom downtube protector and chain guards
- Internally molded carbon tubes inside of the frame for improved cable routing
- Integrated axle and derailleur hanger system
- Boost hub spacing front and rear
- Press-fit 92 bottom bracket with ISCG05 mounts
- 180mm direct rear brake mount
- Clearance for a standard-sized water bottle inside the frame
- Lifetime warranty and crash replacement program
- Actual Weight: 29.2-pounds (13.2kg, size medium, no pedals)
- Five complete builds starting at $5,399 USD
Yeti recently recategorized their lineup as bikes to race and bikes to rip, and I fully agree with the "rip" designation for the SB140. I loved this bike in more casual, everyday terrain at moderate speeds where it's a pump, pop, and jump machine. Playing around on it is an absolute joy. This is a good option for those who prefer 27.5 wheels and are out to maximize their fun levels on mild to moderately technical trails with lots of undulations. Just spend some time dialing in the front end feel to suit you best.
For anyone wanting what feels like a little extra bike, the 29-inch SB130 is an excellent ride.

Great Review. How do you think it compares climbing to something like a Ripley or even the sb130?

I’m doing a build now and using some parts from my sb5. What do you think using a Lyric 160 with a 46 off vs the fox 36 (37.5 off set ) along with a 40mm stem.
@Wildmanjack1944
@Wildmanjack1944 3 года назад
You must be riding that bike by now, I have the same issue, will be using an RS Lyrik RC2 with the 46 offset. Can you pass on your experiences?
@shawnmorrison5501
@shawnmorrison5501 3 года назад
Jack Perry love the bike and love the Lyrik. I actually think the 46 off set is better especially if your a more aggressive rider. I notice absolutely no issues at all. No issue climbing. Just wish I did a medium vs a small, being 5’5” I’m always between sizes.

@@shawnmorrison5501 I am 5'6" and am just about to purchase a frame, trying to decide on size and was heavily leaning towards a small. I have always rode mediums until I purchased my Devinci Troy 29. I reluctantly purchased a small based on my bike store recommendations. It was the right decision for the Troy, a small even seems big. Love to hear your opinion on why you would have had a medium.
@shawnmorrison5501
@shawnmorrison5501 3 года назад
Jack Perry I have a 165 in a medium as well for my endro bike/life service which is a medium, which I feel is more stable. The small at times feels like a BMX bike to me. I have the set up right now for me but if I were to do it again, 100% medium

@@shawnmorrison5501 lol, I had made up my mind to go small after much dithering and was about to pull the trigger, so I guess it is back to dithering. Where are you riding and what type of terrain, thanks for your help

Hey there Brandon, greets from Slovenia ✌🖐😀. I have an eye on the sb140 frameset. Just as you my height is 5 feet 10.3 inches so just on the upper edge of an M and scraping the L frame size. My inseam is 32.5 inches. Currently I'm riding a 2017 YT Jeffsy Pro Race 29er 140/140 travel, 445mm reach with a 50mm stem and a 616mm effective top tube length and a 75° seat tube angle(saddle set a bit forward for the climbing). I ride flats. I feel quite ok when climbing on long ascents(kinda my thing) to get to that downhill fun stuff. I do feel a bit cramped maybe when pedalling standing up(I like that alot ✌). That is how usually my ride looks like about an hour to 2h of fire road climbing and then a 700m decent on the trails thru the woods or the flow bike park trail. My plan is to build the bike with an L frame with a 160mm 44mm offset fork and a 35mm stem or an M size with a 50mm stem. So you tested the M size with a 460mm reach and felt it a bit twitchy(I would definitely raise the bars also, as the numbers look low). What would your personal preference be about an L size, would it be an option for you or not, would you recommend it for my kind of riding? I do understand that reach numbers effect on how you feel in the standing position on the bike and the effective top tube length on the seated pedalling position. As the effective top tube length on the L is only 5mm longer with a better seat tube angle than my current setup and the combo with a 35mm stem I think the setup should be fine right? Would really appreciate your opinion. Thanks and best regards...love the channel...keep it up. ✌💪😉

How’d that go for you? I’m nearly the same height, 5’10.5" with a 33" inseam. I ordered a c2 factory large and am wondering how it’s gonna be. I figured, if it’s a bit long, I’ll just get a 40mm, or 35mm stem.

@@kanon0853 Hey there' it didn't go yet. Unfortunately, here in EU there are almost no frame sets to get during this covid times...and I also decided I would like to sit on one before hitting the button 👍🤷‍♂️ I think you should be Ok with the L size, I was mostly worried about the low front end, but that can be remedied with the stem spacers to a degree 👍

@@aleszverca yeah man, it’s crazy. I got the last one I could find. A friend works at a prominent bike store here in California and he said there is such a demand, the factories can’t keep up with his orders. Truthfully, I’m expecting a phone call saying there was a mistake with my order and it’s actually back ordered.

You probably should've been on a Large for more stability. Cable rattle? Press fit BB? Yeti cooks but needs to dial in a few loose ends to really compare to Santa Cruz's & Ibis's quality.

They make bikes too long these days. Its a trend from downhill racing. It'll make your bike handle better at speed but its not a comfortable position for a long ride.
@oldkayakdude
@oldkayakdude 5 лет назад
I disagree, longer bikes allow you to ride "in" the frame. I was having to ride XLs to get the right feel, with a short stem, and not smack knees on the bars all day long. The geo's have just changed from long to short and back to long again.
@evanblackwell3920
@evanblackwell3920 5 лет назад
I find the longer bikes so much more comfortable on big rides. I used to get a sore lower back riding anything more than an hour ~5 years ago with the short reach bikes. As soon as reaches increased and seat angles went steeper, my low back pain went away. However, I will say it can be a bit fatiguing on the arms if you're riding on flat trails for a long period of time, as a steeper seat angle/saddle titled nose down puts more weight into your hands and triceps. But this isn't too much of a concern from me as I generally go up to go down.
@vitalmtb
@vitalmtb 5 лет назад
What do you fin uncomfortable about longer bikes? Keep in mind that while wheelbases / reach values have gotten longer, effective top tubes remain similar thanks to steeper seat angles.
@dadventuretv2538
@dadventuretv2538 5 лет назад
Curious - have you actually ridden one of these new geometry bikes? Because no one that I have ever met on the trail and can verify has ridden one of these bikes ever says that they are uncomfortable. Some people may still prefer the smaller bikes of the past (and there is nothing wrong with personal preference) but not one person has ever said to me the new geometry is uncomfortable. That’s because they changed the geometry entirely, they didn’t just lengthen the reach on the bike and forget about everything else. Shorter stems and steeper seat tubes mean that the pedaling position is damn good compared to older geometry bikes. Your comment seems to be based on not having ridden new geometry bikes, not understanding mountain bike geometry, and assuming that the geometry change is just a new fad to sell bikes, which I can assure it is not. It makes them much more capable going downhill while sacrificing very little up or pedaling. They might not be as efficient (note efficient not comfortable) if all you do is pedal something like hardpack untechnical trails for hours, in which case yes the old geometry will be more efficient. But you could get a gravel bike for that. I would think that most people buying a full squish 140 mil mountain bike wanna bomb some downs, and these new geometry bikes are much more capable and safer doing so while still being comfortable and reasonably efficient to pedal.
