Unboxing a new BlackBerry Pearl 8130 in 2022 that Christopher was nice enough to send into the channel. Thanks again! I missed doing BlackBerry videos so why not?!

How is everyone surviving out in BlackBerry world?
@wendyc7730
@wendyc7730 2 года назад
I'm typing this a red Blackberry key2. Only one local weather guys app doesn't work. (He's in upstate Connecticut) Verizon was kind enough to find a longtime employee who owned Blackberrys and jump started my Key2 when my Key1 died in March (22). I have a TCL 20S slab phone as back up. I like TCL made products. Samsung is my go too, for now, for tablets that are 8 inches.

Here in Europe my Passport still works well. Kindle stopped working the day after EoL but I was able to install a native BB10 e-book reader. LinkedIn is a bit clunky (e.g. I can read messages but not type any). Otherwise no problems: the weather app works as before, RU-vid works well too. The only issue is the battery that does not last more than 1 day.

My first smartphone was this exact phone (the silver Verizon version). Before that, I thought a smartphone was one that could play music. I had the Sony Walkman phone right before this one. The Pearl actually changed my life. That red notification light along with push email made me immediately more in touch with people. I was hooked and vowed "Blackberry for life" from that point. Who would have thought that 16 years later I'd be trying to manipulate the big Wireless companies into continuing to use my precious BlackBerry. The journey began with the 8130 and the journey continues (or ends, time will tell) with the Key2. Thanks for taking me back! You are one that understands the joy these simple but profound devices bring us. Keep rocking it, Steve! We're loving all the variety!

Awesome! Definitely a different world when these came along...just really neat. And I do love going back to look at them. Will always have the older stuff on my channel as long as I can keep finding it! But was amazing that it could be full featured AND be that size.

Verizon still supports Key2. I'm typing on it now. I owned 2 Classics, a Priv, 2 Key1 and a red Key2 right now

Thank you for continuing to make BlackBerry videos. Never used the Pearl, as was on the 8700 at the time and didn’t like the idea of SureType, but fun to see the device in action so many years later. Am currently on the Pixel 6, which is a great device, but definitely miss the physical keyboard and the uniqueness of being a BlackBerry user. There were so few of us on BlackBerry in the early 00s and now again in the early 20s. Seems like BlackBerry users are always the first ones in and the last ones out. Agree that a big name needs to join the physical keyboard space for a new device to have any potential of success. Keep up the fun content.

Definitely, thanks for watching! And yes, I think someone like a Nokia or Moto who is kind of on the outside looking in would be the ones to come out with something like that.

I have fond memories of my Pearl 8110. I remember selling my iPod Video 30GB back in 2009 to buy one of these used off Craigslist. I was 14 at the time and I didn't use it for any smartphone functionality. Just wanted something to text with after years of T9 texting. I had a couple other Blackberries after that(Curve 8320, Bold 9700, Q10, BB Classic) until I eventually switched to Android. Yeah, I was that dude using a Blackberry until 2015. Pretty solid phones for what I needed. Something about having a physical keyboard just appealed to me for a long time.

The train's left the station. There's no getting off. I like my Pixel 6 quirks and all. I have my Q10 up and running. It's okay for mails but surfing's out. Almost every website is considered unsafe by the blindsided Q10. The weather report is stuck on Jan. 10; the clock insists I'm in Iceland.

Great video! Phones today just aren't nearly as exciting anymore. Maybe with the exception of foldable phones an the surface duo (which I still think has yet to unlock it's full potential), but even those are just android phones and android to me feels like it's getting less refined as they release new versions...

Currently still rocking the Blackberry KeyOne... will rock it till it goes ka-put! May try a Key2 in the mix there, then the unihertz slim. Eventually if no one comes thru with a keyboard phone, iPhone will be the fallback. Blackberry's and Apple's... just hanging with the fruit phones... 🤣

Definitely a strange design choice on the Titan Slim to waste all of that screen space with the bezels, but for everything else I will wait until we have specs, pricing, availability, and reviews up. Been using the OG Titan for a few months and am generally impressed with it, so I'm not in the market for something else, but I'm glad Unihertz is adding another member even if it is looking like just a Key ripoff.

@@StevealiciousTech Yep. It's pretty interesting to look back on devices like the nifty one you unboxed for us and see just how much more we demand, and of course how much more the new tech requires to operate in regards to batteries, processors, etc.

I just can't move on. I don't know what to do at the end of this year when my Droid 4 goes defunct because of lack of VoLTE. The Titans are cool yes but they don't have that same appeal of the beautiful slide out keyboard and they are horribly bulky.
