I've always been a BMW guy and still own a 5 series, but that new design just hurts me. Mercedes now looks chinese and Audi did a good job keeping things nice and classy.
At the beginning of its release, it was a bit strange to see the E series, but for some reason I liked the E series better than the new 5 series and the A6 which already looks outdated.
A 5 series was never cheap and BMW never wanted them to be cheap. If you consider the loss of purchasing power over the last decades, you will realize there wasn't a significant increase in pricing.
All of these cars seem to get cheaper with each new generation. Most expensive for less quality. Tesla convinced consumers that the minimal interior was a premium experience. In reality it's just cost cutting. The Germans and other brands realized they can cut cost by doing the same thing as well. Lots of new MB products creak and rattle all over. And while visual maybe nice sometimes are technically just plastic fantastic cars.
@@baronvonjo1929 I mean for me personally it's not the design or that I don't like minimalism the materials just look worse imo. Newer Range Rovers have a pretty minimalistic interior design but they still look and feel expensive
I also did not like the idea of touch sensitive buttons on the mercs steering wheel but I had an opportunity to use it as my father has one and I can say that it does a pretty good job. I drove about 10k miles in it and I didn’t have a single situation where I pressed something unintentionally. Surprisingly even the volume button works really good.
this era of cars isnt ageing well even after a year. Both in build quality and cheesy screens that look outdated already. A stop needs put to screens in a car as they are as dangerous as a mobile phone while driving. Wouldnt touch a car made in Europe now as theyve taken it too far with the BS and poor build quality.
Had my a6 since 2019, bought it through carwow. It’s done 65k miles. It’s the best car I’ve ever had and I still absolutely love it. It’s so quiet and refined, genuinely beautiful to drive. I’d say the interior quality and ambience is leaps ahead of the others and it’s going to age very well. I paid £33,800, brand new. This was when the world was normal, in 2019. I’m never going to get that value in a car ever again.
Wait till u see one blacked out with custom rims. I saw one on the road a few weeks back and it looked so mean. Like a big bulky bmw muscle car. The m5 will be insanity when people get their hands on em
That new 5-series makes me feel sick every time I see one. Just replaced the badge with Hyundai already, please. Audi is definitely the best looking here. They keep it classy.
I have been a BMW driver since 2000. All the cars I have driven were and are beautiful cars, perfectly finished and the materials used in all the cars were and are of very good quality. I always felt I was getting value for money. Today I drove the BMW i5 40e. The materials used feel cheap, scratchy, iDrive 8 has become a nest a cat can't find its young in. The car, though with 21inch and M-package is simply ugly. The key to this car felt like empty plastic Tupperware box. Light and cheap... I change cars every 4y, and luckily my cars are only 2y old, because today I wouldn't know which BMW to choose....
I don't think any of them are particularly great looking, but the Audi is the worst for me. It's boring, it looks like every other Audi from the last 10 years. Actually sends me asleep looking at it. Mercedes os flashy, over the top, kind of silly looking. BMW looks like it was designed by a 5 year old. But it is the most modern looking. Each to their own but out of these 3 I'm personally taking the BMW on looks and interior.
Audi A6 looks best in my opinion, Mercedes looks to posh an 5 series looks a bit weird, Audi A6 looks great, classy an practical an not too in Ur face, they look great in black too 👌
Matt talking about "the low quality" materials on the E class but not showing that the 5 series has cheap scratchy plastic on the bottom of the door while the E class has soft touch material in the same place. Very objective 👍🏼
Not to mention the obscene amount of piano black and the low quality plastic on the tunnel... People should stop judging these cars from online reviews, they're just full of bias.
@@hassanger8128 So Skoda used a time machine did they? To steal BMWs design of the 5, and go back in time to design their front ends to make it look like they came up with it first?
I’m probably least Audi fan here! Owned Bmw and now Mercedes but must say Audi A6 is best looking out there also love the interior, hope new model keeps that line. Bmw G30 was dream car for me exterior and interior but now too much screens on new models and Mercedes became Tesla with those huge screens! Also Bmw and Benz exterior looks like it’s for Asian market!
the European cars are Fu@#£d at this point. They are on a huge downwards spiral and will end like it did for British leyland back 4 decade ago. Conglomorated parts bin junk only sells till everyone gets wind of how badly made and unreliable it is. Then next thing you know youve got dealerships full of cars they cannot sell parked all around the shop. Were at that part of the slope now.
The A6 has Virtual Cockpit which has a full SatNav screen in the Dash binnacle. It's also the best looking of these 3 imo. Not to mention it's the cheapest and quickest...
why? who needs to know that to make a purchase decision. The Rolling Distance Test was also not that useful, who cares if the car drives 1m closer in cruise controle or not.
I currently own a fully specced e-class stationwagon from 2018, and i must say, i’ve never been in a more comfortable and quiet car. With controllable air suspension, headup, panorama glass roof, the full amg line and everything else really. Such an absolute joy to drive around. It feels about the same going 50 kmh as it does going 150, and the noise is not much different either. The 5 series i tested felt a bit similar, but a lot less modern and nice in regards to the interior, and the ride was a bit rougher, so i went with the e-class, and i’ve noget regretted it for a second
To be honest, the credibility of the channel/Matt is really going down. It seams that there is a certain agenda of pushing BMW cars in winning these tests. I know for sure that the influence of this channel is enormous and that people will base their buying on Matt's conclusion and it is based on pure subjectivity. The 5 series is the worst looking by a longshot, it's interior is not anything we haven't seen, the s class has had the double screen back in 2013. The mercedes is also pretty boring in its interior but it is an improvement from the s class, and Matt still mentions the "cheap feeling" button - that is subjectivity. The BMW didn't really win anything and it was still the "choice". Also, when comparing handling/comfort you have to take into account the tires. BMWs come out of factory with runflats which have thicker sidewalls which gives it better handling (and worse comfort), which often is a decisive factor. You know what is not decisive factor? - How close you can get to the car in front of you. Why would anyone want to brag about being the closest to the car in front of it? This channel went from being informative to senseless with these pointless tests, and i was a big Matt fan way back when he was hosting carbuyer. Hopefully this comes a constructive critique and not a hate comment.
I used to be very passionate about cars for 30+ years now, couldn't wait to see new models coming to market, what they have to offer. But i got so bored, most of them are uglier, more expensive, made with cheaper and cheaper materials with every generation that comes. I would rather buy an old one.
Have the Audi A6, but with the petrol V6 (340hp) i really love the versatility of the car, and 4 wheel steering is a must on it. Makes the car handle better and stick really well to the road as well. I will say my biggest issue with it is the infotainment system, it is a bit buggy at times, and the climate controls would be better as buttons but it is what it is. Overall really happy with it.
normally i’ve been bmw fan and owner but ignoring the fact that audi is still keeping the car nice looking out of the 3, does it ride better? grip on the corners etc.
@@funnyalbanian6792 BMW are almost always better at those things but the Audi can really hold its ground there as well. Especially if you put it in dynamic mode (sports mode).
There’s way more plastic inside the 5 series. The back and center console panels are cheap. Door handles and materials aren’t the same. Also if you’re touching the Mercedes shifter try touching the 5 series blinker buttons or wipers they feel mad cheap
Exactly, even the door which he didn’t mention The Mercedes has better materials all over the door… whereas the BMW uses base 3 series materials in the same place
My dad's got a long wheelbased version of the A6, the A6L which is exclusive to the Chinese market. An absolute masterpiece! Love the looks and the handling
I have a Merc 300e and do actually use the inbuilt sat nav as I am led to believe this enables the car to determine when best to use which motor or both. It also enables the car to select when would need to select lower gear when going up hill etc. Overall giving improved combined mpg and better driving experience. Love the car
yip, 4 decades ive worked on cars and its went full circle. The german brands are British Leyland at this point, conglomerated parts bin junk guaranteed to let you down when it matters. Drive them spirited at all and the drivetrain components dont like it one bit and wont last. We have a new phenomenon of engines losing power naturally over a short period of time. No longer takes 150+k miles to start getting compression issues its now happening as fast as it did on rotary engines. B58 for example gets praises on youtube yet is top of the engine failure rate chart alongside N47. You couldnt make it up.
Honestly, Audi is the best. Most integrated screens with a subtle design on the outside. I’m a E91 BMW owner, but I’m never buying a new BMW again - they’ve ruined their cars! I’ll stick to Porsche or Audi, with the Burmester and Bang & Olufson sound systems
That was not fair comparison Matt, first time seeing wrong engine types compared in such rivalry race on this channel. I demand hybrid vs hybrid and pure IC engine vs pure IC engine comparison. It felt like a comersial rather than comparison 😂😂
Tough. The BMW is about the same price as the Merc and way more expensive than the Audi. That's on BMW for not giving enough for the money. Totally valid comparison.
They all have an entry-level IC with 200-210bhp. They could have compared these. But then the price difference between BMW and Audi would have been too big. Especially after the carwow discount.
New car design is too woke 😂 You can't tell if it's male, female, black, white, asian and what character does it have. The previous 5 series is a masterpiece and should go higher in price now 😀
You know, they all work the same, just press the Voice button on the steering wheel if you don't feel like saying "Hey Mercedes", because otherwise it doesn't work.
21:15 Why not compare the 530e. Its also a 2.0 4 cyl hybrid with 300 hp. Or the 40 tfsi and E200 with the 520i. Theres also 520d in the configurator as an option
BMW is the most disliked brand in the UK based on surveys from UK drivers. It is not the car that people dislike it is the way that they are driven. I regularly see X5s written off and old 3 series and new 1 series for that matter. If you cannot beat them join them. I'll take the 5 series thanks.
@@christianlittle9348From what I've discerned in exchanges with people from Germany (primarily regarding geopolitics), the country has made the mistake of being too dependent on the Chinese market, which is unwise. I think these trends, and BMW as a whole, are totally aimed at that market. Because of that, I kind of fear for Germany's car manufacturers. If things do come crashing down, Audi probably stands the best chance because they are the most diversified.
"Hey Mercedes tell me a joke" "You need online voice control for this service..." I would say the lead up to that made it unintentionally a pretty good joke lol
No airmatic is a huge letdown. My father has the predecessor with airmatic and the difference to the standard one is insane. Feels like youre hovering over the road.
The UK is a second or third-tier market now that its per capita GDP is so low. So Merc de-contents the car to make it affordable to the locals. They do the same in the former soviet states and the Balkans, for example. Only prime-tier markets like the USA, China, France, Germany, Japan etc get all the options now.
I think they forgot to mention the bootspace of the 5-series Hybrids, which i believe is still 520 liters and it is 490 liters in the I5, which is impressive.
