We think that an all-new BMW performance flagship is on the horizon, and it may not be what you think!
We’re pretty sure by now that a new 5 Series is set to be unveiled at some point this year, so you’d be forgiven for thinking that a new M5 will be top of the pile when it comes to BMWs that can really put their power down. But we think there’s something else on the horizon that will produce even more power…
It’s an all-new BMW M8 Competition! To be precise, it’s likely to be an all-new BMW i8 M!
So why do we think this is on the horizon? Well BMW has recently unveiled its Neue Klasse platform - a dedicated EV platform which all future electric BMWs will be built upon. It’s also been claimed by BMW CTO that this platform will be able to support up to 4 electric motors and produce over 1,3000hp! And given that the current M8 is meant to be BMW’s performance flagship, you would assume that this trend would continue when it comes to all-new electric BMWs.

One recurring feature that Mat seams to talk about in these videos is that they tend to have an insane number of horsepower in its next generation. Like really, is more power than what we need to make cars go a hell a lot faster. Wouldn't weight be a factor in this, or am I wrong? I agree, clickbaiting the video with title "Most powerful BMW ever!" But in reality replacing combustion engine with electric motors, or combining them into a hybrid will significantly increase the weight, that BMW IX SUV or whatever it's called is one of the heaviest SUV on the market.

Sky Line. I find the F90 boring. The only M5 model I find worse is the F10. I haven't driven the CS, but the standard and Comp. For me the E39 was perfection in every way.

Yeep, truly mad and I just see myself as lucky to have been living through the ICE era from young teen in the 80's to now. I feel for the drivers of the future EV world as they will be tracked, monitored, charged for everything on a subscrition basis including ultimatly being charged by the mile/KM......just seems terrible but then again maybe I am just a dinasaur who knows nothing.. Currently have a Renault RS 280 for my mid life crisis which I will not let go....which even at 280HP as way, way more than enough for anyone on UK roads..

A new completely electric m3/m4 for next gen would be crazy. I think the transition would be too quick especially if battery tech only gives so much range. A hybrid system like what Matt's saying about the new m5 for the next gen m3/m4's would make more sense before going fully electric.

A BMW M8 with 1300HP? Seriously?!? If so, probably a plugin hybrid with V8 or inline-6 with big electric drive part, or maybe fully electric.. This also means it looks like 1000+HP is now the norm for new performance cars?!? EV's like the Tesla Plaid really spoiled that part.. I will not be surprised if new laws are being made in the near future to ban these cars, to dangerous for the general public on the public road.. It's getting out of control.. Obviously if Porsche OWNS the fuel chemistry, they will have a monopoly on it. XM makes 748hp wof which 585hp is from the engine. M5CS is 627hp. That's 48hp more than the XM engine. So along with the electric power.. that totals exactly 748 + 42 = 790hp But this is assuming BMW will use the same engine as current gen, which I believe was also used in the F10 M5 which was also at 592hp, like the entry level base F90 M5. So if we assume engine is the same, that's minimum 790hp. But chances are it will be revised and updated. Its going to be atleast 800hp-840hp. Since BMW understated its real power output, we can expect actual power to be near enough 900hp. But it doesn't end there. If they ditch the engine altogether and go electric only, with 3 motors, the power output will definitely have a comma in it 1000hp-1100hp. With 4 motors, 1300+

I can't say for sure if a wage earner in the UK is able to afford the 7, or the 8 series, but where I come from, cars like these are the preserve of the very, very rich. They are beyond the reach of even most businessmen who are doing fairly OK. No thanks to our taxes. To viewers in the UK and USA, enjoy these fine motoring icons folks. I cannot express in words just how much I hate this electrification and ultra stringent emissions laws that the EU is pushing so aggressively while constantly making the restrictions tighter and more restrictive so quickly. How about focusing on industry and other things that have a bigger impact. How about renewable fuels. I feel like when we have electric cars, governments will start introducing automatic speed limiters for all cars on all roads so that nobody can go over the limit ever.

8 series is just a bullshit excuse for BMW to charge more money for a 6 series coupe. So in reality, it never left. Although I have heard that they could kill off both 4er and 8er coupes and somehow “combine” them to remake the 6 series, and have the 4 coupe once again become the 3 series coupe. Which again, 4 series is just an excuse to charge more for a 3 series coupe.

@@Divine_Serpent_Geh coupes have always been a bit more expensive than sedans because of the body shape and sill-less windows, and in this case the 3 series has a worse base engine and a few missing options compared to the 4 series. The difference is about 8k in my country, and about 4k if you add the missing options. I think that's alright. Also, I don't see why they would make a 3-series coupe. That's exactly what the 4-series is meant to be, a coupe 3-series. The fact that they made a 'gran coupe' 4-series is completely ridiculous however. And the 8 series is much more than a 5-series though, just because it's on the 5-series platform doesn't mean the interior is the same for example. I do agree that they're charging way too much for it though, I really like the way the car looks but it's a cash grab for sure.

The manufacturers push for an EV future is, quite frankly, arrogantly reckless. The cost to mass produce these is at the expense of a critical ecosystem mining rare cobalt to power batteries. But also the environmental disaster these create once they reach their life expectancy. These can't be recycled at a wreckers like normal ICE cars. They just lay waste in a field somewhere. I'll gladly keep my ICE NA V8 for however long air fills my lungs.

Of course the cars can be recycled! Plus the first 300000km use of the battery in the car and then second use as a huge stationary battery for your house with free solar electricity. Second use is at 70% of original battery life. After that, you’ll likely be deceased or not care anyway PS I was a petrol head for years also and live the roar of a hot V8, track days were fun too. But a good EV is both a better town and road trip experience. Just not as fun on the track
