The Katana is the Fender Deluxe/twin of today in the gigging world. I'm not saying they sound the same, just that they occupy the same place in the market as those amps did in times past. Absolutely Dominant.
Absolutely LOVE the faux Andertons backdrop for Namm. Love you guys so much! Thanks for the quality content, good laughs, and nice info on gear. Have fun at NAMM!
I have the Katana Artist and it does sound amazing all the sounds I can get out of it and very loud for gigging. I have the katana MKll 50 watt for practicing at home and it’s loud and the sounds are great. Boss did an amazing job on these amps 👍
Hey what's your thoughts on the mk50 vs artists. I have a couple 50s around my house but was thinking of flipping them and getting 2 artists or something.
I have a question about ur artist. I just got one, and was having a small problem with volume. So obviously I have the volume and master up on the 50 watt setting. Even with this, it’s rlly quiet. It took about 5-10 minutes to finally give the full volume. Is this because the amp needs to warm up?
Awesome amp I love it. Great playing. The next upgrades to make this amp better would be if it could hold 100 presets, a display to show your adjustments, control knobs that showed their positions like Peavey vypr, a way to use a single expression pedal that would allow you to alternate between wah or say univibe, then hit a toe down switch on the expression pedal and you could alternate to a volume control. Finally a built in tuner. It would be ultimate. I've been hooking up my smart phone with the "Katana Library" app and I use a Tuner and wah/volume floor pedals prior to amp. Still a killer set-up.
@@zakklee2556 That's what I'm going to do, is buy two of them, but only because I want stereo sound. I will use a pedal that will split the mono signal from my guitar, and make it into a stereo signal. It should sound really good.
I enjoyed my original Artist but at live volumes there were two issues I ultimately couldn't live with. One was the degradation of tone past a certain volume. The other being the dreadful latency of the footswitch especially using another setting for a lead tone. Be interesting to see if these are improved?
Awesome amp! I use it for live gigging! Most of the things with the amp are great. My only two issues with it is that I would like a couple of vintage voiced clean channels to complement the very american/modern sounding clean currently on it. Also BT or Wifi paired with an app to control it would make life easier when you need to do some changes to the sounds.
Pete and Bea back in a video together for a second. Hamstead amps video is my favorite ever, they need to collaborate on some songs on beas grinding gears volume 3
Fantastic amp! Very happy with mine and can get those over the top screaming 80s tones without having to buy 40 pedals lol. Guitar, amp and a tuner pedal is ALL you need for a home setup.
I love the Katana Artist. My go to amp in a music store. Consistent, and sounds great at low volumes so I don’t have to be “that guy” to get good tones trying out a guitar
Just got mine. I’ve been playing through a LP with burstbuckers 2&3. Magnificent from clean to brown. Just for a change picked up the PRS custom 24. The clean sounds magnificent. The lead sounds clean. The crunch sounds clean. The brown sound channel sound clean. Uhhhh, what is going on?
My question is this, if these amps are so nice, why is the used market flooded with them? All seriousness, it’s insane how many of these amps are available.
As much as I love what Boss is doing with the Katana series, part of me badly wants them to come out with a newer/cheaper version of the Waza. I so badly want the 150w head and 4x12 cab, but they seem so hard to find.
So I have the Nextone Artist and love it. I never gig with tubes anymore. I am wanting to ditch the pedalboard so am looking at the Katana. Are there any Klon type drives in the effects?, Any Dumble type drives?
Does the master volume affect tone? My experience with a solid state amp is the master volume (if there is one) only changes the volume, not the tone. Unlike a tube amp where as volume increases, the tone getting more overdriven. So can’t I use the 100 watt setting at very low volume and still sound good? I think .5w is way too quiet while 50w is too much for home/late night use. Input is appreciated.
The Katanas have 2 volumes besides gain. One is a channel volume (labeled "Volume") and a "Master Volume". The Master does affect the tone whereas the channel volume is just the loudness. It's quite counter intuitive. Boss recommends to crank the Master and set the channel volume to taste.
I have a katana 100 mk2 and the Artist mk2. I connect them together using the stereo function. It really sounds amazing. The key is the tone studio. You have to do a deep dive and use the parametric eq to get the tone right for your guitar. Once you understand how to use the tone studio, the sky is the limit.
I tried out the Katana 50 and the Katana Artist and, though I really liked the clean tone and all of the effects, I could never get the distortion to sound crispy and clear. I ended up getting a Fender Champion 100 XL which was way better for what I was looking for (tight metal tones and warm and clear clean tones). It's a powerhouse of an amp and super underrated and under the radar for some reason.
Annnd a week ago tonight, I was like, "should I wait until the artist mk2 comes out? Or will it ever come out? So I went and bought a mk2 100, literally 7 days ago. Then I got an email from Boss/Roland 4 days later bragging about the Artist mk2. Le Sigh. On the positive side, I love the regular 1x12, and it won't take me long to pay it off, and then get an Artist :D
At the moment it looks like Boss has disowned the Katana Air. Hey, Pete, as you did PR videos for the Katana Air, have you any idea whether Boss have any desire to upgrade the Katana Air's operating system or produce a Mk 2 version?
Fully agree with you. The air needs the booster separated out from mod menu BIT it needs to be able to be put in front or behind mod so you can use it fully like wah ahead of distortion BUT also the actual boosts in the booster menus- clean treble and mid need to also appear in the mod menu away from dstortion so you can put a boost in front or behind the od fuzz and dist pedals. If you do that boss you have nailed the new air mk2 and it would only need a firmware and spp update
Because at moment if i want to use wah for example ahead of dist i cant use anybof the myriad of fuzz dist or od pedals as on same menu i have to use wah from booster/mod and gey dist from amp itself which is ok with its deep eqs etc on board bit means im wasting all the diffetent dist pefals from the menu. And if i want a boost and dist again have to use the boost from boosyer/mod menu meaning again i jave to use amps dist only which again wastes all the great fuzz dist od pedals on the menu. Csnt believe this would be a huge task boss to do wouldnt even need a new model as i say just a firmware and app update. Doubt boss even read these posts but worth a go
Just once. Because it's NAMM 2020, can we do without the sycophantic drooling over the Anderton's crew? Yes, Pete is 1 of best on RU-vid; the Captain plays better than ever . . . We can all see this. Commenters get a life, a father figure, whatever you have to do - but let's talk about the gear. 🔌🔈🔉🔊
This comment inspires me nearly as much as Pete's playing. That guy is one of the best on RU-vid. No disrespect to the Captain of course, his playing has come along massively.
