This video contains 3 new boxed potatoes ideas. I have two ideas for using instant mashed potatoes in a different way and one recipe for leftover mashed potatoes. These recipes are all budget friendly and very cheap. You can shop your pantry and make most of these recipes. If you're doing a pantry challenge this video will give you some great ideas. As a senior with a low income I qualify for what is called a commodities box of groceries once a month. Mashed Potatos are a staple of the box. So I have several packages. I love Mashed Potatoes and the instant ones are a great pantry basic. And since I have alot of them, I have even given some away.

When I have extra boxes I like to make a version of potato soup by making them a little thinner then the box calls for and adding in scallions, bacon bits and some garlic and celery. Makes it really good

@@christinejohnson7684 if there is an agency for the elderly check with them. If there is not then check with your local community action program also referred to as CAP it is usually prefaced with the name of the county. For example a county named Somerset might be called Somerset CAP - good luck

My Mom always makes potato pancakes with any kind of leftover mashed potato. I don't think she even adds anything, just forms them like burger patties in butter. Mom has the patience of a Saint, fries them very low and slow on both sides until they're golden and crispy. She keeps them hot under foil in the oven while she makes her perfect fried eggs. They also require the patience of a Saint, lol! She never flips her fried eggs. She cooks them with a lot of butter and bastes the eggs with the butter until the whites are completely cooked and the yolks are perfectly runny. She serves them over the top of the potato pancakes and it's just amazing. I've tried to make it many times and fail. I have no patience! But if you do, they're incredible!

I have grown kids, and grand kids, I have been cooking for 40 years. Lately I’m just blah. Can’t get motivated or inspired. Then one day your channel was in my recommendations and I skipped it for a couple of days thinking, “maybe later” I have fibromyalgia and have been in a painful flare accompanied with deep fatigue, so I tend to cope by watching RU-vid, helps keep my mind off the pain, and my brain engaged so I can stay awake. I’ve watched at least 5 videos and swear I subbed, just looked and I wasn’t…well I fixed that. Just want to thank you for buckling down with your busy family and making these videos. There are 1,000’s of people everyday that think about making a RU-vid channel, but never make it happen. We need you out here, especially with our current economy!

I use them to make a loaded potato soup. I get one can of diced potatoes, chicken broth, milk, and potato flakes. I up scale it for more people depending on how many are eating but I only one can of potatoes. Use the potato flakes to make it as thick or thin as your family loves. Top with favorite toppings. It is super yummy, quick, and cheap.

Our family has never looked at leftover mashed potatoes as a "predicament.". They get fried up as "hash browns" the next morning for breakfast, lol. The potato pancakes looked super yum ... haven't had them in decades.

I was surprised that you didn't have shepards pie on your list. We take Campbells chunky soup, put it in a casserole dish and cover it with mash potatoes and cheese put it in the over to warm it through. If you have just a little left over stew not enough so everyone in the house can get a bowl you can put mash potato on the plate make a whole in them and pour a little stew over them like it's gravy. When I was a young mom (aka lazy cook) I used to make my "no-bake shepherd's pie" this way. Browned ground beef, seasoned to taste, with a little slurry to gravy it up and some added corn, peas or mixed vegetables would be my mashed potato topping, sprinkled with some shredded cheddar.

Often when I'm by myself for dinner I make that first recipe as my complete meal. A budget saver is that I use bacon bits... they're real, but sometimes they're "fatty"... I just put them in a pan for a few minutes and let it render down, just as I would any bacon I am "cooking."

I use the shelf stable milk (it doesn't last forever) while making instant taters. I make soups with them. I also add condensed mushroom soup as a gravy with them. Very yummy and cheap. Learned about that as a kid...I didn't know we were very poor, just thought everyone ate like we did.

I use 3 cans of cream of whatever soup, 3 cans of water, 1 box of potatoes, 5cups mix veggies, and simmer until desired consistency (this can vary for each person). Then pour a cup over chicken and rice.

these are awesome and all taste great! for the potato pancakes try using shredded onion in the mix - OMG - so tasty and for another take on the cakes - you can omit the ham and use brown gravy to make them a superstar main entree. ( potato flakes are also a good soup thickener when you need something and are in a pinch without wondra, corn starch or flour) 😊

This is a good idea for left over regular mashed potatoes. Sometimes when I are really hungry I over do cooking potatoes more than we need or want so don't let them go to waste. At least this is my motto. I love your videos and love that those babies like Mamma's cooking too.

My mom used to make the potato cakes. I pointed out to my sister the other day buying the instant potatoes that don't need milk for storage, is probably a better way to go. She doesn't keep milk around so why buy it for instant? I buy the bacon bits at Costco and add them, also the bacon to eggs, salads etc. It's a good buy and it lasts a good while.

They're on Costco's website, too, and can be shipped. Also, Hormel makes a 20 oz. bag. As an FYI, 4 oz. of bits are equivalent to 1 lb. of uncooked bacon, the 20 oz. bags are quite a deal at an equivalent to 5 lbs.

Love your videos. I use instant-mash-potato-powder to thicken soups,stews and sauces. Also, I use it in baking (add max.10% of the flour-content)...it makes the bread softer/fluffier/"lighter". I also use it as a base for single-servings of "potato"-soups. ...I'm a single-parent empty-nester...

Yeah. You do not have to have the Butter or Milk. We add Mashed Potatoes to Raman (or Raman juice). We at times have a flavor pack because we use the noodles for other things and we only add Raman Flavor Packet to the Water and then Potato Flakes and it works perfectly! 🥰 I am always making mashed Potatoes then tossing items into them or them into other items to thicken and stretch the meals. (It making them in the other item. It doesn't have to be leftovers.) I have been trying to help others realize the usefulness and ease of using mashed potatoes. You know there is no limit to what you can to witg mashed potatoes, the only limit is your imagination! Do not worry about "recipes" unless you need to get the creative juices flowing because you can mix really anything with mashed potatoes. Anyways, thanks for the video. Many people are unaware of the usefulness of boxed mashed potatoes. Or, either that or they forgot over time! Either way, boxed mashed potatoes is cheap and you can just add it to many-many things! Do you have to much water in your mac & cheese? Why not, add a little potato flakes to thicken it up a little Do you have one Banquet Pot Pie and you always eat two? 😋 Well, make a little mashed potatoes and mix the pit pie into it. There is a couple of you, you can do the same and mix it all together. Then, divide it up. Chicken n' Dumplings, the juice... You can take the juice (either to the side or not) and mix potatoe flakes into it. Hey, a cup of Ramen! Make it and then mix flakes into it and stir, eat the chicken potato ramen in a cup. You can take potatoes and mix it with beef stew... 😋 There are just tooo many ways you can eat these together and one way I like to eat it is... Sweet Corn and Mashed Potatoes. Or, Sweet Peas and Mashed Potatoes... (I also like those in my Mac & Cheese.) Now, you can put Chicken in it (canned or) chicken patty or chicken nuggets (cut up). You could even use sandwich meat! Example: Chicken sandwich meat, ham sandwich meat, bologna, turkey, etc.. all sandwich meat can be torn up and tosses into the mashed potatoes.. and it is quite good that way! 👌 (I personally have eaten it many-many times myself). Their are many things you could do with it, just make sure you enjoy the fruits of your labor 😉.

My mom used to use instant mashed potatoes to make fried chicken. It always came out so crispy and good. I don’t remember if she used flour of not as well. I’ll have to ask.

A tip for leftover mashed potatoes-is to add flour,egg and a sugar😉. Then make small balls the size of donut holes and deep fry and sprinkle with powdered sugar or cinnamon and sugar👍👩‍🍳.

Wow, absolutely great recipe ideas. I would add one herb, my favorite for all potatoes, finely chopped fresh dill (no seeds) mixed in throughout. It adds such a great fresh taste. I grow my own dill and I dry it for winter use and will use that when my fresh is not available.

@@MealsWithMaria Stefanies super Quick Potatosoup for 4 Servings you will need: 1 pack of mashed potatoes ½ liter vegetable broth 1 cup cream u.n. water u.n. milk parsley, chopped some vegetable broth (instant powder) Prepare mashed potatoes according to package instructions. Add the vegetable broth (either homemade or instant) to the mashed potatoes. Add enough water and milk until the desired consistency of the potato soup is reached. Refine with some cream. Season with a little vegetable broth (instant powder) if necessary. Arrange on plates and serve sprinkled with parsley my small trick to make this soup even better: If desired, you can also add chopped carrots, celery or sausage slices or Buns/Baguette if desired u.n= upon needed

In Ireland we have instant mash but I don't know of anyone who eats it as a potato side. We do use it as a coating for southern fried chicken though! Next time I'm in America I want to try those Idaho ones! They look so good and I'm curious!

Yeah everyone has an opened 10 year old box of smash in the cupboard for emergencies lol. Instant mash just looks horrible if I'm being honest. I like my mash to taste like potatoes 🤣 I find a lot of American cooking I watch their mash potatoes have so much cream and butter in them they are a slop and it's what the instant mash looks like too 🤢

My mom would make just normal tator cakes from left over mashed potatoes, with just onions. Never would of thought of adding ham and cheese. Just bought a box at our store. I normally like mashed potatoes from normal potatoes. But like you said when the potatoes run out or go bad. You have the box. It all looked yummy.

Thank you for the ideas. I will use them all but I will use regular mashed potatoes for some reason I cannot eat instant m ashed potatoe even KFC mashed potatoe because it makes me sick. Please keep making content. I watch all of your uploads.
