Had our Oracle (non touch) for 2 years now, generally very happy with it. I couldn’t imagine giving up my ability to steam at the same time as pour a shot - I’m often doing 2 or more cappuccinos in a row and that would take so much longer. Otherwise the new one looks decent, having hot water on demand rather than a 3 minute wait would be nice.
@playbackamusicloversjourne8620
@playbackamusicloversjourne8620 3 месяца назад
I agree with the steam/pour comment. Seems a bit retrograde and less user friendly. I think the menu looks sharp and the on screen steam wand tip temp, hot water, grinder & tamping is a move forward as well. Asking someone to give up the steam/pour for the other advancements is a mixed bag.

Instead of adding more machines of this nature to their overall product line up (they already have a few!), it'd be nice to see Breville / Sage give a nod to the home espresso enthusiasts by releasing a Dual Boiler Pro. Flow control as standard, programmable profiles to the physical buttons, Bluetooth scale connectivity to support a brew by weight feature, insulated steam wand, maybe an app that allows for bonus features / control but without being too reliant on it for day to day use of the machine, and perhaps even some extra sensors here and there to allow for some feedback on shots, like the Decent does. I bet Breville / Sage could bring out a machine like that for around the same money as the Oracle Touch - that way they'd have a top end offering for both the more casual and the hobbyist users. They did something like this in conjunction with Lance Hedrick a little while ago - hopefully that was a signal of intent, and they go all in and we get an actual product release in the not too distant future!
@Fluterra

It would be way more expensive. Breville makes “toys”, not machines for serious espresso. A toy is totally fine, but it’s not in the same league as a pro machine.
@michaelfarkas2396
@michaelfarkas2396 3 месяца назад
@@Fluterra I don't know... for the money, the dual boiler is a pretty capable machine and plenty of enthusiasts are keen on it. Sure, Breville don't make heavy metal machines like La Marzocco or Rocket etc, but they do have a machine in their line up (the Dual Boiler) that's got great features for the money and is geared toward people who are less casual and don't need a ton of automation; it would be nice to see them expand on that offering. And I'm not sure that the features i listed above would have to be way more expensive... the slayer mod for flow control on the current Dual Boiler is very quick and cheap to carry out at home, so once they got the manufacturing set up then it should cost Breville peanuts to carry out themselves. Programmable buttons and Bluetooth integration would require minimal hardware and just a little software, and a few extra electrical items such as sensors would again probably cost Breville peanuts. While they could potentially charge a lot for a machine with all of those features, i stand by my belief that they could pitch it at the same kind of money as the oracle; they'd be saving on all the parts that contribute to the automation (including maybe the touch screen) so could use that saving to add in the features that would give full manual control.

It's a great option for a casual user. Someone who doesn't like to tinker and has no interest in deep diving. There isn't much room to grow and if you are prone to get geeky with things, you're going to end up wanting something with more manual control. The irony is that this is the kind of machine that can really get you into the hobby because the end product here looked pretty decent and super easy to produce. Lately, I've tried to be more self conscious of waste - it seems to me that a machine like this is destined for the landfill, either because of difficult serviceability or the lack of resale/trade in value after a few years of use. Years ago I considered an Oracle and ended up going with a conventional machine and I'm glad I did.

Thanks for the overview! I think it's way too close to the Touch Impress and frankly does not deserve the Oracle name. Mm missed opportunity to make it dual thermojet! But I appreciate the hands off temping, 58mm (hopefully tasting better) and what appears to be the insulated wand from the touch impress plus the tip thermometer from the oracle which are nice additions. The 60 fps screen is long overdue, actually looks usable now

Original oracle is such a complex machine that it has a bunch of reliability issues and is really hard to service, despite being the best engineered assisted machine in existence. If this one is simpler and more reliable, but hits or exceeds the original performance, due to the learnings over the last years and the grinder upgrade, it will be a very interesting machine.

If this uses the same thermojet that's in the touch impress then the temperature at the hot water spout is not hot enough for Americanos. I was getting temperatures in the 65-70°C range when the user manual indicated temperatures between 75-90°C. Other owners indicated online that they were getting similar temperatures that I was. I primarily drink Americanos which was the reason why I returned mine. Hopefully that's not an issue with this machine.
@fuzziestlumpkin
@fuzziestlumpkin 3 месяца назад
I can confirm that my water spout dispenses at about 65c to 70c. But one person's flaw is another person's feature... I personally like being able to drink my coffee sooner rather than have it sitting on my coffee table lol. They should def have let us control the temp though. Then again, maybe they do, I've never looked.
@caffeinefix2751
@caffeinefix2751 3 месяца назад
Same issue I've seen with barista pro and barista touch. I always tell my customers if you want black coffee don’t get a thermojet machine because it will never be hot like a dual Boiler or a thermo block from the express. Although 70 is a comfortable drinking temperature for me, it may not be as hot as some people want
@playbackamusicloversjourne8620
@playbackamusicloversjourne8620 3 месяца назад
And this is where intended use comes into play I think. My second cup is generally a dbl americano made just before I head out the door for a 20 min drive to work. I drink it at my desk. The difference in temp. is substantial in this scenario.
@fuzziestlumpkin
@fuzziestlumpkin 3 месяца назад
@@caffeinefix2751 Thing is, it can't be directly related to having a thermojet, because that same boiler has no trouble hitting 95c for espresso and 100c+ for steam generation... I suppose it could be a flow rate thing. If I need it really hot I'd personally just pull an espresso and top it off with the kettle, but I understand they are less common in the US. I'm not sure a dual boiler is the answer though, dispensed water from them can taste kinda funky, even on a well maintained machine.

I see a lot of comments complaining about the lack of a dual boiler. While I understand that will be a short coming of this unit and will (hopefully) reflect in the price, is a single boiler really that much of a big deal? While I haven't used this device myself, is the few second delay in the pour really going to significantly impact the quality of cup? I look at this is a fantastic update to the Barista Touch, and if I had to guess will likely come in around $1500-2000.

How are your brew temperatures? Water temp for an Americano! I have a 3 month old Barista Touch Impress and from day 1 , set on hottest Temp #4 highest brew temp is 135 F. Tons of other people on Reddit and Facebook Breville groups are having the same issue with this model. Getting replacements with same Issue of low brew and water temps. I spent $11605 dollars on the machine. Breville tech during a video conference call with me told me watching 135F is normal brew temp” . He is out of his mind and ignorant! Have been using rspresso machines since late 90’s . and 199-205F is necessary! Breville is denying this issue and not replacing it with a properly working Barista Touch Impress. Makes me wonder if the new Jet will have the same issues?
@JHRod25
@JHRod25 3 месяца назад
I had the same issue and returned mine. The Breville tech I spoke to said the low temps I was getting from the machine was not hot enough and suggested I return mine for a replacement. I heard of similar issues from other owners and concluded it was a common issue with the touch impress.

@LifestyleLab_

They were STRONGLY hinting at a new dual boiler version as well. Might be two thermojet loops. What about a thermojet do you think is inferior to a traditional boiler?? Faster heat up, more efficient, temp accurate...
@fuzziestlumpkin
@fuzziestlumpkin 3 месяца назад
It depends how they price it I suppose... But they can't go too low because the touch impress exists. I personally bought a touch impress because (believe it or not ) I specifically wanted a thermoblock rather than a dual boiler, and I'm already a little annoyed by this upgrade arriving 6 months later... If the pricing is competitive with the touch impress, that seems like a bit of a kick in the teeth.

Had the barista express for about 4 years , great little machine , upgraded to the oracle touch and 3 of them broke , kept overheating after a couple of months, also very inconsistent. Ended up with a more traditional E61 group machine. Stay away from these with a touch screen , that’s my experience.

2 questions Why is it not using 2 thermojets, one for steam one for brewing? Is it still a saturated group like the sage dual boiler so it’s still got that same mega stable temperature? Just wondering if we will ever see a new sage dual boiler but with thermojets instead to rival something like the Ascaso steel duo?
@LifestyleLab_

The people at the Breville booth were heavily hinting at a new dual heating Oracle on the way. I'm guessing it will be two thermojet loops, but that's speculation.

@@LifestyleLab_ interesting. I used to have the oracle and Sage said to me that the touch impress grinder was better (it’s barazta) as was the steam wand. Personally I think the impress is fantastic for an easy to use at home option, no dual boiler is rarely a pain but I understand it’s a gripe for many. That said, the milk temp sensor being in the base always seems odd to me as it’s measuring the temp of the jug, not the milk, but the results are still good. The biggest issue with the software is the extraction measurement is not that accurate and often asks for changes when none need to be made. I backflush far more often that I used too and it makes a world of difference.
