"Built like a gun type?" (2:04) Possibly because BSA was British Small Arms. The overall look is OK, but not the huge radiator which totally spoils the line. I wonder why they didn't go for oil cooling like Royal Enfield, which is far less obtrusive. Anyway thanks for the video, enjoyable as always. Ride safe

This is a very interesting time to be a motorcycle enthusiast. Seeing these classic British brands being resurrected by the Indian marketplace with the help of some design input from the UK is probably not something anyone would have predicted just a decade ago. The Goldie looks beautiful but I agree needs a little more refinement in the radiator design. As a 650 single, I think the soundtrack is going to be just irresistible! Thanks for the ‘first look’ Andy and good luck to Mrs F with the test.

Saw them today. Very impressed! With a build quality not quite up to Royal Enfield (but as you said these are pre-production bikes). The huge diameter exhaust headers are due to them having large diameter heat shields over the actual exhausts themselves. I did notice that these weren't wrapped around the entire pipe leaving the inner part exposed. I think they could slim down the radiator making it longer but less intrusive as there was room below. The engine cases had a very thick lacquer which I hope goes onto the production version as it looked very robust. We somehow missed you and Mrs Flyer though Andy 😔

I'm amused at the attacks on it for the radiator and the various other details. If you built a brand new BSA Goldstar absolutely perfectly, you couldn't sell it if you wanted to, it doesn't meet modern requirements. Even if you could, people wouldn't buy enough of them, the world has moved on, the roads are different, the expectations for reliability and economy are very, very different. Some people just can't be made happy, they just wallow in their misery, sharing it with the rest of us. Looks good to me, hope there's a place for it, look forward to seeing it in the metal and making a decision on purchase possibilities then.

Well Bloor's Triumph and Norton have done it, and heavily traded on a history that simply wasn't theirs - seems to work for the nostalgia/patriotic brigade of wanabees that don't want the hassle or can't afford the real thing.... to me its just a name/badge - nothing more - the product and manufacturer has to stand on its own grounds for me to consider a purchase - buying a 'badge' is for the chronically stupid penis size comparers, but it seems to work, even more so in the car world....

🤔 It’s not a Goldie though is it ? That was a performance bike of the day and this is just a mild homage. I’ve now got two retro bikes - The Fantic 500 and a Vitpilen 701 which don’t attempt to recreate the past models and put a new twist on a scrambler and cafe racer. I get it with RE because they have essentially been producing those bikes for decades they weren’t copying anything - and the Himalayan has turned out to be somewhat of a modern revolution. The Kawasaki 900RS I also get, because it’s just a styling exercise on an existing machine. The Boneville not so much, but it’s a modern bike with modern performance. This BSA though 45bhp and 198Kg seems like a more cynical money making exercise than the creation of anything exciting.

At last. I'm not the only person who thinks like this. This whole 'reborn retro' fad is, in my humble opinion, just cashing in on mid-life crisis people who think they look cool. That might happen eventually. But understand the background behind it. The parent company classic legends is the pet project of Mr Anand Mahindra to revive defunct brands that were present in India during his youth. He has already brought back Jawa, is about to relaunch Yezdi and now BSA. Of course he won't indulge in a loss making exercise so yes as any smart businessman he is starting with baby steps. I'm sure with the kind of passion he has, once they taste success, he will go all out and bring out more performance oriented bikes. The future is exciting for sure..

@@shantanu766 I certainly support any entrepreneurs ambition and enterprise and wish him every success, I just don’t get the bike at all. It’s not really about performance. He isn’t ‘bringing BSA back’ in any sense, this is a completely new brand that just happens to have a BSA badge tacked on. It’s clearly aimed at capturing some of the 650 Enfield market share with which it shares many similarities, but it doesn’t move the game along, it’s just another homage, rather like the mock timber framed houses of the 30s which copied elements of Tudor Britain. It’s certainly not a bike that would attract my money because it’s not genuine in any respect -calling it a Goldstar is a travesty.

Sheer nostalgia. The performance figures given by the manufacturer looks modest at best. But we can see what the're trying to do....keep it priced below the RE Interceptor even it it means sacrificing a cylinder. Rom the pics available the ground clearance seems low like the Benelli Imperiale. IMO a 500 air-cooled twin may have been a better option. Good to see BSA back in business.

After looking at the spec sheet that bike would be perfect as a sidecar tug. Gobs of low end torque and a real frame around the engine for the lower sidecar mounts. The upper frame of the bike also provides easy upper sidecar clamps as well. The bike itself is simply beautiful. BSA would be way ahead of the game partnering with a sidecar manufacturer offering a "factory" sidecar as a package deal or making the sidecar an optional accessory. That would allow someone to add a sidecar later. Custom paint and badges for the sidecar would make them very popular.

That bike is beautiful and I hope it’s as good on the road as it looks and the price is right,I had a Golden Flash 650cc in the sixties and did over 40,000 miles on that machine without any major problems. The only problem was the Front Brake was hopeless because the drum was oval and it was downright dangerous to use as it grabbed uncontrollably when used, the rear brake shoe’s wore out on a regular basis because of over use but apart from that it was faultless. With having the Iron cylinder head it was near silent mechanically at tick over with non of the tappet noise you get with alloy heads. I would love one of these bikes but at nearly 77 I think old age has caught up with me,I bought a new RE Interceptor on a whim but it was too heavy for me so I sold it to remove temptation from trying to ride it,my family weren’t happy with me and we’re relieved when it went.

Liquid cooling=ability to run higher compression ratio=more HP/cc. This bike has a butt ugly radiator the size of one off an old Gold Wing and still the bike only puts out 40+ brake horse power?! By comparison the Vitpilen 701 (695cc) liquid cooled thumper puts out 75hp. The BSA should be reliable given it looks like the engine is seriously de-tuned but I doubt it will compete sales wise or performance wise with the RE650's.

I saw a video yesterday with the owner of BSA showing you round the bike where he says (paraphrased) “it’s been designed to be easily tuneable for different power outputs” Whether that’s with hardware or software wasn’t mentioned but would leave room for Rocket and Clubman versions with more HP.

One of the fastest bikes of the 1950s! At 213kg wet it's surprisingly heavy for a single cylinder 650, looks like it's the frame, there seems to be quite a lot of metalwork going on. A Honda CB650R weighs 203kg wet, and a 1200cc Triumph Speed Twin weighs slightly more at 216kg wet. It's a direct competitor for Royal Enfield’s Interceptor 650 twin, my guess is the prices will be slightly cheaper, probably between £5000 and £6000 depending on the model. Looks nice though, my favourite is the blue colourway, very 1950s, you'll have to see how it handles. 👍

It looks like everything is slanted toward the shorter person... but people in general are getting taller! You could almost dream of "small, medium and large" frames? Everything else the same....
