I know how fond you are of single cylinder motorcycles and this large capacity single cylinder machine will handle the things that the RE 350 just can't. I think you made a good choice for you. I picked up my W800 on my 68th birthday and two years on I will be 70 next Monday. I personally prefer the 360 degree twins over the singles but that's just me. What milestone are you celebrating with the new bike? My W800 came from the factory with tank pads and I love them. Protects the tank and provides grip for the knees when riding in a spirited manner. Not all bikes look good with tank pads but these modern retros sure do. Cheers and congratulations Bob in Ottawa, Canada

The BSA Goldstar 650 is a brilliant bike Stu. I've seen a few detail improvements (notably the new - less "cottage industry" radiator cheeks). They just need to keep up the momentum. A Scrambler version would be an easy one to pull off too 👍 Nice tank pads - thanks for the usual attention to detail during fitting. I'd be tempted to run a hairdryer gently over the pad and a little more pressure to help the bond.

Congratulations and greetings from USA! I'm stoked for you and at the same time possess self-interest in your experiences with the BSA Gold Star because as far as I know they haven't reached the shores of western USA quite yet....I think the BSA Gold Star and Royal Enfield Classic 350 are two of the best looking production motorcycles today and the BSA Goldstar would have presented a tough choice for me had it been available when purchasing my 2023 Classic 350 in Chrome Bronze over a year ago....Cheers! 4:11

It is a lovely-looking classic motorcycle. You are right about comments from Triumph and Royal Enfield owners. To each their own! I wrapped the custom two-tone shadow paint on my Triumph Bobber with a 1.5mm clear protective vinyl. Those tank pads are excellent protection, but eventually, you might have the tank painted to blend better.

After seeing and hearing your enthusiasm for the BSA Goldstar, Stuart, I found myself seriously hoping for its introduction here in the USA. Perhaps one day.... With respect to anyone who expresses contempt for personal choices on one's own bike, such as the Union Jack on the tank pads, I am at a loss to understand that kind of enforced homogeneity. It's a motorcycle, not a military uniform. Congrats on the addition to your motorcycle stable! Enjoy! 🙂

What I find disconcerting on all the “modern classics” is the obvious gas tank seam. As I recall the original bikes all had a rolled seam which made the gas tank look much more quality and less like a way to save production costs. The tank pads are a “have to have” accessory for any of the old style bikes, glad to see we are in agreement 😎

I own a Triumph T120 and I have test ridden the BSA as I was drawn to its aesthetics. Couldn’t fault the engine, the gearbox and the brakes, it’s a good bike overall, but will only buy a BSA in a few years when the overall quality (paint work, chrome, embossed logos on engine vs serigraphy) will have gone up and I’ll be happy to pay the increased price tag because of that. Definitely a brand to watch if you are into modern classics.

Considering there is a little Union Jack tab at the front of the seat Union Jack tank pads are very appropriate. The little wipes for cleaning spectable lenses and phone screens work well cleaning paint surfaces. I found that index marks for lining up pads can be put on with whiteboard markers, they just wipe off with no residue. Beautiful looking bike, i'm jealous.

Cracking looking bike, we don't have them here in the states as far as I know. Motone do make a nice tank pad I had one on my Interceptor but when I changed the tank to a chrome one I had put a copy of that pad from Hitchcocks they didn't make it but they carried them and there is a big difference in quality the rubber is much thinner and the adhesive is NOT a 3M. It didn't take long that one on them came off and was on the floor of the garage one morning 😡 Hitchcocks did make good on it but it was very disappointing should have just pay the higher price you get what you pay for. Currently I have a TripMachinen leather tank pad which are also a quality product with 3M adhesive and I also recommend them as much as Motone's.

BSA rather blew the whistle on your choice of new bike a couple or so weeks ago. I kept my mouth shut. I hope others did the same... I think you've made a great choice Stu. I think the BSA Gold Star is great. A lovely bike and funnily enough, far more a natural successor to the Royal Enfield Classic 500 than the new RE Classic 350 will ever be. I think Royal Enfield rather dropped the ball here actually and BSA have stepped in and filled the gap, in my opinion. Oh and my OCD was doing somersaults watching you fit those tank pads! lol I'm so pleased that my Battle Green Classic 500 came with them already fitted!!! You may want to consider those tank pads for your Classic Chrome 500... Great video and I hope you enjoyed a nice cold beer after fitting those pads! 🙂🙂

I think the BSA is a great choice as opposed to another RE which would feel a bit samey. The one stand out thing I dislike about them tho is the chrome on the tank! I just don't like it. I worked out why recently too. I bought a black Classic 350. I want to see the black when I look at it and ride it. I don't want to see everything around it mirrored. Strange but true. Look forward to see you out and about on it Stuart.

I _love_ putting Union Jack bits on the Street Triple R I bought earlier this year. Congratulations on your new purchase. I am really looking forward to the forthcoming updates on how you find it longer term, particularly in respect of the engine performance and everyday driveability compared to the Interceptor. I am in the market for a 650cc ish scrambler style bike and am hoping that RE and BSA bring out models out in the near future. I would lean towards the single cylinder BSA, but could be swayed either way!
