Because of all the spare heavy weapons in the havocs and legionaries kits by combining the old and new combat patrols you could build 3 havoc squads and 1 legionary squad, bulking out the points value even more.
Getting infantry at a discount is going to be way better for starting an army. Getting 10$ off a model worth 100 points feels great, getting 10$ off a model that's worth 200 points doesn't feel very good.
Honestly this is probably the best tenth edition combat patrol. I could even see this being a good two buy if you decide to kit bash some chosen from the legionaries, and an exalted champion from the second MoP.
All three of the new CSM boxes are really solid. Pick up one of each, maybe a dupe if you like a specific slant on the army, and a tank or two and you have a pretty solid full sized army. Seems like it's really easy to get a lot of your core CSM workhorse units all bundled up this year.
Honestly i'm just glad to see that havocs arent in the box Havocs in combat patrol specifically had the dumbest loadout possible, one of every gun although "cool" for new players was just a bait and a big waste for anyone who wants to follow the intended gw pipeline of moving from playing combat patrol to 40k proper. Also made it terrible for someone (like me) who already had CSM and wanted to play combat patrol for fun, I could never justify actually going with such a terrible loadout, magnets or counts as aside (not a fan of either personally as I prefer to convert/kitbash everything) The box value is less, sure, but i think this box is a better lineup for general army building
To me it feels like as if they said "we need to sell CP as an idea, and lots of boxes still have vehicles... so throw in an anti-vehicle gun!", and nobody considered the later CP boxes with less vehicles - so far. As always: different groups at GW not talking to each other is a very real possibility.
Not good. Especially how many overlaps with the new battleboxes coming out. Id grab the old cp to match with the new battleboxes for a 2k complete army minus some characters/tanks.
