Never pay up front to any contractor anyone who does is as gullible as they come, any legit contractor will be able to pay for all materials labor involved to do the job upon completion then & only then the contractor is paid for the job, there are people who think not this is how it's done &'likely are the shady sketchy contractors who are the ones who will ask for up front money they really are criminals scam artists like this guy was, show the front door to these cons when they start asking for money up front..
