I bought one several weeks ago and had a very successful first flying outing. It was very stable in flight and easy to control. Just went out for my second flight. Just after take off the plane began circling with a steep left hand bank. It continued to climb. The breeze picked up. I could not get it to fly straight and come back to the field. It flew completely away!

Very good flying Abby, keep pressing those boundaries, and catch up to Nate.☺. Nice plane, seems that the plane manufacturers are starting to do the drone thing. Put out a base model, then wait for sales to slow, then put out an upgrade to up sales. Next upgrade will be brushless. Nice day,🌝 nice flying,🛩 nice couple.👫. 😊😊. ⚓⚓👍👍🌈💗🌈👍👍⚓⚓.

A great plane and all, but I think one of the biggest mistakes beginners make is buying a too small plane. I suggest an easy to fly plane with decent wingspan to start with. These small ones are tricky imho.

This plane is around $230 AUD in Australia, so not such a cheap option. The Volantex 500mm Super Cub 4ch from your Under $100 USD beginner vids is under $130 AUD. How do these two compare for a complete beginner? My wife watched this vid and seemed interested (YES!!!). I've rewatched both videos, and the HobbyZone seems to be be a bit slower. Thanks.

Matt, I am in Australia as well. For what you get these are very expensive. I bought one when i started and grew out of it in a few weeks. If you have a lot or room to fly i would get a glider with a pusher prop maybe a HKing Walrus which is a real RC plane. The SAFE cam make them harder to fly actually.

So I ordered this plane and got it yesterday. Flew nice for a second then lost in a light breeze. In hindsight I think if I put it into advanced mode maybe the motor would have made enough power to get it back. This was the first rc plane I’ve ever bought but I have a good understanding of flight controls as I’m in process of getting my ppl. Being in Buffalo NY there is always a little breeze coming off the lake. Is there another slightly heavier more powerful plane you can recommend for use in light winds? Possibly something that uses the same remote?

Follow-up 5 May 2020: I took my Sport Cub S 2 our for the first time this morning since the wind appeared to be pretty calm. However, by the time I made it outside the wind had picked-up a little... I decided to give it a go anyway and everything went great. I had to hand-launch the plane since the grass in the area was just a tad too high for a ground launch. I flew the plane for about five minutes, until the wind got a little too unruly. When I made my final landing it was with full power-off into the wind and the plane was hovering like a hawk until it gently touched-down almost like a helicopter would. ZERO mishaps and no damage to the plane which is always great!
@johnbrown8059
@johnbrown8059 4 года назад
I took my Sport Cub S2 our again this morning and flew it in some very light wind. Once, I flew it right into a small dead tree and there was no damage to the plane. I was pretty surprised because the plane hit the tree pretty fast! I also had a couple of nose-dives into the ground but had zero damage to the plane. I'm getting better in beginner mode and have even tried the intermediate setting a couple of times. So far, so good!

I had the same issue on my first go. It just kept climbing, then I switched to experienced mode and I was able to dive back down and saved it with the red button when I was low enough to regain control (scary). Later I tried just turning away from the wind and spiraling down. That was a lot less scary and (I hope) looked a little like I wasn't out of control. Can't wait for tomorrow, so I can try it again!

Be very careful flying high in the wind. I flew too high in 10mph wind and couldn't get it down bc of the wind, then it lost connection and glided away out of site. B Diddy You would need to replace the receiver with a FlySky one (which kind of defeats the purpose) to use that transmitter. The DX6e would work fine. Horizon Hobby actually suggests that one in their completion guide for the BNF version. Alternately, you could go with the RTF version if you aren’t ready to invest in a more advanced transmitter, charger, etc. or don’t plan on owning a fleet of Spektrum-based (DSMX/DSM2) models.

@@TheRcSaylors thank you much for the reply, cool that you love yours but my review is reflecting many others nthis is pretty much the equivalent of an overpriced toy, whilst the apprentice is a true beginners rc plane due to its forgiving and stable design this one just goes to show that bigger planes are better due to more stability. the sport cub s2, just blow on it and it goes out of control and breaks easily. From what you say would you say the UMX Turbo timber is beginner friendly? just wondering as Im going to quite possibly getting one since I want a more sturdy true park flyer.
@Flightguy323
@Flightguy323 3 года назад
You're comparing a cheap plane to an expensive plane. Sure the $300 more plane will fly better and be more durable but for somebody that has never flown anything other than a paper airplane they'd be much more comfortable wrecking the $100 plane vs the $400 plane. I just got into this hobby myself. Just picked up a Corvallis 350, Cirrus SR22T & received a Parkzone UM Spitfire for free. I've never flown planes before but am learning on the spitfire before I even touch the other ones. The spitfire has no SAFE mode, no Panic mode, it just offers full control. I've crashed it a few times already but don't feel bad because I got it for free. If I crashed my Corvallis I'd feel pretty bad. You'd feel much worse wrecking a ferarri than you would wrecking a $500 Civic.

Howdy, so quick question, I bought this plane for my wife and I, I've flown before but it has been 10+ years since I touched a plane. Anyway she was flying and it hit the ground and now it seems like the elevator is getting stuck or hung up. It's a short pause when you pull up resulting a nose dive. Has anyone experienced this issue and is there a simple fix?
@tyyyytttt
@tyyyytttt 3 года назад
i realize this is an old question, but double check the servo motor gear cogs on the control board and make sure the cogs aren't getting snagged up. Do this after you ensure that the control rod isn't getting hung up on the side of the plane or something. Also check the control horn attached to the elevator.

the 1st one was underpowered and the props were brittle, Not the best in wind, would not recommend for beginners

In beginner mode, my sport cub s 2 doesn't go down - even though its fully trimmed. I lost it once because it just kept going higher and higher, but found it. Before I go out again, is this normal - whenever I press up on the stick it just doesn't descend. Is it because I am in beginner mode?

Just picked up mine a week ago. Weather is not great here in New York, waiting for a calm day. By the way my RTF came with lights inside behind motor. Red and blue LED's. This way at dusk the plane is more visible. Lights can be seen in the two holes in front and the plane body also is lit from the inside. Pretty cool.

I love how you two are always so upbeat, positive, informative and scrupulously honest in all of your presentations... 😇😇 With so much exploitative, misleading and debased content on the internet, full of trash content and even trashier language, it’s always so refreshing to stop by your channel and remind oneself that truly decent, wholesome and edifying content still exists on RU-vid... presented by two of the most wholesome, engaging and helpful people on the Internet, who do so much to illustrate how accessible, exciting AND FUN this hobby can be, no matter how limited one’s experience and income might be... BLESS YOU BOTH 🤝 for all of the hard work and infectious enthusiasm that you inject into each and every one of your excellent videos. I’ve watched you since your channel was way smaller than it is today, and it’s so gratifying to see that your subscriber base has grown so much and keeps on growing, because you truly deserve to succeed. 😊👍

How can this be new? The registration numbers are the same 😄 yeah I said I'd have to unsubscribe because of all the cool stuff. How much wind can these handle? Because I gotten nervous and don't really want to go out because of the fact. So y'all's gonna have two 2's - will y'all be in to-to too!? 😂

TheRCSaylors I've watched lots of your videos looking for my first RC plane and I think I've figured out the question I want to ask most. What's the best, cheapest SAFE RTF that has a great expert level for me to grow into? So many people comment on how squirrely and unusable many are in expert mode. Thanks!

I already have several basic planes so although that is such a nice plane for beginners, I wouldnt invest in it. I do have a friend that wants to get into flying RC Planes, I am setting him up with my Phenoix simulator and Dx6i setup to at least get him started. It sure helped me save money on learning to fly without crashing.

Nice flying Abby. Maybe you should have mentioned that the plane is under .5 pounds and the implication of that stat. Also, it is a plane, according to the promo video, that can be flown in a large yard or small park - no need to find a flying field and join a club.

Bought one of these in December, after only ever having a brief go with a glider years ago. When I bought it had a brief go at our local cricket field and after a brief uncontrolled panic takeoff the breeze got under it and 10 seconds later it was stuck at the top of a tree, about 20 feet behind me. We managed to rescue it using a beachcaster rod, lots of canes and gaffer tape! Luckily it was getting dark and the leds inside it helped to locate it. I was then scared to have another go unless I could find a massive open space with no trees or rivers etc., Also I have heard that the batteries go off so was scared to risk it. Until yesterday, when I went for a drive looking for a suitable field as it was an exceptionally calm day. Anyway in the calm (5mph) conditions I managed to get a 10 minute flight as I was very light on the throttle and probably could have got longer, but it was fantastic, handled nicely and I loved it! I think it needs trimming possibly from some damage getting it out the tree but was very stable in flight, and even though I didn't consider any of the landings a "real landing" due to the long tumpy grass it's still in one piece. Would recommend it for a beginner but best to start in calm conditions! Many thanks for the videos, can't wait to get flying again!

This plane is so easy to fly. My friend could fly it for 5 minutes without crashing, and he had no experience. It does take dents and cracks, but nothing you can’t fix with tape or glue. We got ten minutes of battery time. Not good in wind, but still flies in it. I’ve pretty much mastered it so now I’m ready to buy a flitetest speed build kit.

I just got this plane and had an absolute blast! I never thought I would do loops on my first ever RC flight, but this makes it so easy! Now I want something brushless to advance with so I can give this to my wife.
