Hello! An amazing review. You dont have to use Swiv360, you can take cables MINI with adapters (S or S+L) and get the hugest portion of knitting pleasure) they're sooooo thin with NO memory at all. I've started use them since socks knitting. And now i choose M-cables everytime.

Comprehensive and balanced review much appreciated! I’ve had my Forte set just over a week and have used it with 4 different yarns ranging from fingering through worsted weight, including one double stranded project. I did not experience any problems with the yarns snagging on the swivel connection, nor did my cables loosen from the needles. I tightened them with the red silicone heart and the included T pin, but would appreciate a tool like the Lantern Moon one as you mentioned! I knit a lot too, but I just haven’t had them long enough to have used them with much of a variety of fibers, so I can’t really say much except for “so far, so good” with the Swiv360s. I was able to Magic Loop with them, which is not a technique I use with the red cables. I also purchased a couple of the 3 packs of 2” cables to use as dpns. I appreciated CG’s upgraded presentation a lot. The heavy cardboard box was made from repurposed material and the vegan leather case was of the quality you expect when you invest in an expensive set of interchangeable needles. The fabric case they sell their regular sets in is pretty cheesy. It’s also great that the needles themselves are crafted from blackwood scraps leftover from the production of musical instruments and that they are planting a blackwood tree for each set sold! I would love to have them available in a 4” option too! I also want to commend CG Customer Service for their outstanding support; one of my US6 needles was snapped in half when I received it, and I simply completed their online form and included a photo and within hours, a replacement was on its way! The entire kit is well thought out and functional. I have to say that out of all my various brands of interchangeable needle sets-and I definitely have my share-that there’s just something about the way these Fortes feel that sets them apart! Hopefully I will continue to feel the same as I have the opportunity to use them more!

@@purLZknitting I’ve never had to either! I can’t even tell you how upsetting it was to slide the size 6s out to check them and discover the broken one! I’m assuming it got broken when they inserted them at the factory. They looked absolutely perfect in the holder! I contacted the retailer and they sent me the CG link right away, but I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly CG responded! Good to know, although I don’t want to have to contact them for anything broken again! I have a cousin who lives in Mechanicsburg and A LOT of my relatives live around Halifax/Harrisburg! We visit over there nearly every year from Ohio! I’ve always threatened to hunt down the local yarn stores over there, so now I can follow your recommendation next time we head that way!

So jealous of those new chiaogoo!!! Great review video. Thanks Lena 😁 One tip for those stubborn metal zippers (my grandma taught me ) is to run a graphite pencil back and forth along all sides of the teeth. Then zip back and forth. Repeat this until the graphite lubricates the teeth of the zipper and it zips easily and smoothly. Maybe it will help with your favorite needle case. 😁

Thank you for this comprehensive and honest review! I absolutely agree with everything you said about this needle set and have been waiting for an honest review. I am so frustrated with the joins on these cords. I have even tried to adjust my knitting style but nothing seems to help with the snagging. I’m knitting with a dk weight yarn and have given up and gone back to my Hiya Hiya swivel set, even though my hands are loving these new ChaioGoo needles and the cords themselves are wonderful. It’s my first set of ChaioGoo interchangeables so I don’t have any red cables to try. Such a disappointment after investing in a very expensive (Canadian prices are very high) needle set.
@purLZknitting
@purLZknitting Год назад
Oh I hear you! The cables themselves are great but the join!!!!!???? What I recommend you do is go on etsy and get a few red twist cables. For small and large size needles. You will need both! And enjoy the heck out of these needles! The red twist is just the best cable on the market! Here is the shop where I get the cables by the bundle - www.etsy.com/listing/679570887/ I hope this helps. I use my set with res twist cables only. Thank you for this comment. I hope @Chiaogoo will hear all if these complaints and modify the grey cables.

the swivel cords are to help with very long and heavy projects, but more for interchangeable Tunisian crochet, which is like a knitting needle with a hook on the end. The swivel helps keep your hook in the correct direction as your project builds. With regular cords, the long piece can pull the hook away from working. I can't imagine how it would help with knitting needles, as they don't have a direction to the point. As to the safety pins, if they are going to include, why not the coil-less type? But still, I can't imagine how to use them in knitting, as even the part where the point gots into the head will catch yarns. I really enjoy your opinions, as they make sense and are most logical as to actual use. ❤

I was anxiously awaiting this video and loved it. You gave an in-depth and balanced review also mentioning the good and bad. Funny that you held on to one of your spin cables as a reminder of how crappy they are. I don't mind them so much as I see them as stitch holder - I just use my red cables on the bamboo needles. And yes, Chiaogoo having a non-spin version of the new cables will be great. If they come up with 4" needles, I hope they at least release a small set and I really don't need to larger needles - hopefully that matches the price. Funny you mentioned the box was a waste of money, but you know many people would have complained it was cheap and flimsy is Chiaogoo released these expensive needles with a thinner case. 😆 Thanks for the awesome review and congratulations on your beautiful needles.

Thank you! And I completely agree that if this set would have been just small size needles it would have been amazing! But … its a limited set so I doubt they will release small and large sets or 4” tip one. You just gave me an idea of selling my large tips out of this set. I wont use them, ever. But i can sub them with my metal ones. And keep them all in one beautiful case!!!

I found a set of the new needles at around 1 am and decided to wait until morning and of course they were gone! But I only like working with 4 inch needles and rarely use the larger sizes, so maybe they’ll come out with other sets in the future. And maybe they listen to those of you that have them and make some improvements. Your video is very thorough and now I feel better about waiting. I’m sure they’ll catch up some day and expand on options. Instead I bought a second set of the original ones in the smaller sizes. I’m so glad to hear that you love the new ones though!

First of all , thank you for your reviews . This is a set I can not currently get but love knowing the highs and lows. • Yes , I remember your video about pulling the swivel cables through, same exact experience with unscrewing , these new cables I am seeing , are thinner , liking them for magic loop, BUT when I bought the same type of memory free for other brands I have honestly been avoiding the swivels . I hope CG will come out with a non swivel option using the thinner cable. • Needles not falling out of case , oh my YES that is a plus , these are sets that are suppose to be portable , I don't want to be scrambling to gather up tips when case tipped a bit. • Safety pins? Not sure if I would ever use that , not sure why they are included , is it meant as a stitch holder?? especially since it is a rather traditional one with coil that can catch, to me, • The slot for a pattern, well no harm in it being there but honestly, I know I would find it only useful for little cheat sheets I make on index cards, Probably keep something like that in there. • I hear myself in you at times , those T pins are with my blocking things , I do have the Lantern moon tightening pins in each interchangeable set . Not to mention the T pins are sharp, no other brand provides you with something like for sticking in the tightening hole (don't miss , ouch) • I love the hIya hiya cable ends for my chiaogoo, again , I hear my thoughts repeated. • I actually learned that the chiaogoo ends can be unscrewed and you are left with a bonus of those parts that combine two cables • Loving the new stitch marker included , MUCH BETTER old ones have NEVER been used, they are in my extras box in a drawer along with a few other included items from various interchangeable sets. Thank you again , love the knitting vids but also look for something like this , strictly for review .

Thank you for this review! I'm loving my needle set. I've also found that if I am using a lace weight yarn (like mohair or Suri - even when held with another yarn) it will snag on the swivel cords. For those projects, I use the Forte needles with the red chords. I am liking the swivel chords with thinker yarns, so far no snagging with DK or higher.

Please I have one question. New generation chiagoo forte been released small quage (2,75mm -5,0 mm) bild of different material (carbon fiber) other needles in set are black wood. I don t care for swivs because I have almost every set of chiagoo and lots of extra cables. But I don t know is it small needles as 2,75 or 3 mm is prone to broke or snap. I m more open to spend money in all collection of black wood than carbon fiber. I knit almost always with shorties and and this set is 5" so, I value experience. Thank you and everyone who have this luxury set. I have to choose between old version (I like it more) or new who have this combination. For new ppl. new version have for S needles (red cord cables plus 3 swivs, L only swivs). Thank you! This set looks amaaaazing!

I'm a beginner knitter but bought one ChiaoGoo interchangeable needle #5 with clear plastic because it rotates and it is much much worse than my KnitPick wood set. It always gets stuck on the joint and I like your review because I was thinking that it was a fault of the brand. I wanted to move from wood to metal interchangeable needles but am having such a hard time deciding especially since I have had such a difficult time with this one needle.

Try Chiaogoo red twist cable. Its the best out of all the cables out there. But if you want to try a really cool and well made needles with the beat join, try Gold Tip needles. You can order a separate cable (just dont get the shortest one, its too short for comfort) and separate needle tips. If you want the beat wooden ones I would try Lykke fitted with Lantern Moon new cables, but not the swivel ones, fixed only. Stay away from any swivel cables they all have the same problem - yarn gets caught in the swivel part. Please let me know which ones you like best. Can wait to hear from you!

Hello! And thank you! The best set to invest in would be Chiaogoo red twist full set. If you work mostly with smaller needles than better option is small ChiaoGoo red twist set. Or large if working with larger needles. If you work with small circumstances more get a 4” tip. Or 5” if you work mostly flat or with larger circumferences. If you prefer wooden needles get Lykke. Tip lengh suggestions are the same as for ChiaoGoo. If you prefer very light needles that are not wooden or metal but seem to be a mix of all - I suggest Gold Tip needles. You can watch my review of those in one if my knitcasts. I hope it helps. Lykke is cheaper in etsy. So is Chiaogoo. Gold tip is sold on three websites only. Please let me know if you have any more questions or need clarification on this one.

Suggestions: For tighting, I buy from my local discount store cheapy foam shoe insoles and cut them up. They have rubber grip side backing and are great as grabbers (especially if you need two) and can be easily replaced without spending a lot of money. Yes, I have them everywhere, just in case. I also agree with you on the tightening tool. I'm heavy handed and tend to bend mine often, and can certainly use a sturdier opition. As for the safety pins, I use "coiless brie or brye" pins. They're kind of pricey and sold under the name of Clover (I believe). They are big (the size of standard diaper pins) but are very helpful as stitch markers.

ps. maybe someone help to choose I have almost every rotating cable that exist (tulip, combo takumi, ka seeknit, hiya hiya, wood and wood)... The best cable rotating tips is bamboo clover takumi. the best slick wood-bamboo needles is ka seeknit and tulip. They are soo slick tips that lykke for me is at least favorite ( no matter it is wood) on this list (I have that too). Lykke don t have sharp point tips and tips is not at all slick. Soo, All needles have something amazing but best swivel is combo takumi ( you don t feel at all transition). I hope it helps to choose. Best cable for comfort knitting is red lece and ka seeknit (because it is like dental floss, but you feel small transiotion beetween cable and metal connector)! Blue chiagoo is amaaaaazing but I like red lace too, no bother me at all (both is top of the top).

I agree 100% about the crappy join of these new CG Forte needles. I also got a set quite unexpectedly. I got mine from a yarn store online where I clicked a notify me button when the item was out of stock and happened to be on my email when they notified me late one night. I bought them right away. I was so excited to get them. The tips and case are fabulous but the join with new cords really sucks. It is like they are too thin for the join. They snag the yarn at join every darn time with every type of fiber. The good news is the red lace cords fit these needle tips and solve the problem. I am not sure these are worth the $300 price tag. I do love the tips but am really disappointed in the cable join. I know this sounds petty but the tab on my tape measure was sewed on crookedly. For the price, this kind of bugs me. You are basically paying for a nice case, some ok notions, and beautiful needle tips- because the cords themselves are worthless. I don’t know how others feel but for $300, everything with this set should be outstanding. I own 5 other sets of ChiaoGoo and they are fabulous. Not sure what happened with these.

The Forte needles are a limited edition, so it’s not a matter of “new” vs. “old”. Chiaogoo has already stated that because of the extreme difficulty of working with such a hard wood, there will be no reissue of the 5” sets, nor will they be making 4” sets. Also, the wooden part is not made from “shavings”; it is made of left over “pieces”.
