Firstly, it is important to distinguish between ‘sound-proofing’ and ‘sound deadening’. Sound proofing, as in sound proof rooms and to some extent, vehicles, is the endeavour to stop noise entering, or leaving a space. Extremely complicated, very expensive to do properly, and not what we are talking about here. Sound deadening, or ‘acoustic treatment’ is what is needed in this case as is simply a matter of making one or more surfaces within a room less reflective by adding absorbent panelling or tiles. The sound issue @vrsmartin2981 is referring to is due to James’ space being reflective on all walls. Typical of a warehouse or hanger. Sound leaves the mouth and bounces from wall to wall, ceiling to floor and makes spoken word more difficult to interpret. By adding sound deadening to the ceiling and one or two walls, the reflections would have nowhere to bounce off and the general acoustics of the space would be hugely improved.
@@StudioMagnetique that's the one. Some of the pointy triangle foam pads. Doesn't even need to be all over the wall. Problem is its a big space. I'm sure James will get it sorted soon
Best day of my life was getting my 1983 Range Rover back from being restored, nothing anywhere near this fancy, but I can relate to the body roll and rattling 😂
I couldn’t believe this! Talk about the “never before done IFS conversion” and didn’t even TRY to throw a camera under this thing. Let alone get it on a lift. I’m offended 😂
Love it! Don't think the wheels work with it at all, but the rest is fabulous! Loads of rattles in the interior though at low speed - hopefully that's just leather squeak. Do love restomods and this generally is very good.
I feel bad, and I think this company has potential, but I also believe in honesty and I hope they can improve even further. But other than the rattles, I think they did an amazing job!!
I also came to the comments to see if anyone mentioned the rattles - would absolutely drive me crazy. The passenger seat was vibrating like it was about to take off. The Icon/Derelict car company does amazing restomods and not a rattle to be heard - though I think their work runs into extremely high $$$ range. Love the idea behind this vehicle, but it’s not a win for me yet.
Met Durran a few times through work, he is a lovely chap. The work they do with The Jensen stuff is arguably even more impressive, I like to think they do what we as car enthusiasts would do ourselves given the funds and the talent, Restomod is definitely the best description, They could have whacked in a SVR engine and stiff suspension and big wheels and it would be cool, but not THAT cool
very nice indeed!! A car dear to my heart (learned to drive in a manual V8 back in the 90's). The only visual negative being that it sits a little too low and some of the character has been lost at the front, but apart from that.. epic!.. Do a Defender restomod vid next! (ps. about to have one done with a big V8..)
I don't understand how this man doesn't have way more than 1 million subscribers, considering the type of quality content that he has. Anyway greetings from Portugal James. Stay safe everyone.
A really nice example, the engine and transmission work well in this set up but it would have been nice to have a peek underneath at the suspension set-up. Despite what others may say, that interior is relatively quiet compared to my meagre 1989 3.5 V8 but it is all part of the charm and character to a RRC, it's not a sterile, boring eurobox, it's a functional utility vehicle that just happens to do it's job effortlessly and with a certain amount of comfort. I had a 1966 SIIA LWB pick up that had no power steering, no power brakes, no synchromesh in the gearbox, no sound deadening and the hi-lo headlight switch was a button on the floor by the left foot! It was by far the most demanding to drive out of all the cars and motorbikes i have owned yet it was ironically also the most rewarding. What I am saying basically is, if you are buying a Land Rover you know what you are getting into and you love it's idiosyncrasies all the more for it, if you want boring and bland, buy Japanese.
I think for £170k the NVH would be a bit more soothing. They should include plenty of paracetamol for all those headaches induced by that interior. I applaud chieftain efforts but it still doesn’t feel the finished article yet.
@@iMortalis59 thanks, but no thanks. I’m sure it will find a home amongst diehard fans. Check out another RU-vidr Steve Booker and his new business of Range Rover upgrades. I think they would make a more interesting comparison 🤷🏻
You should see the other cars these guys make, the first Chieftain had supercharged LSE power, they also do a very original looking version, metal bumpers, higher ride etc
It looks wrong. Colour for me is irrelevant but I agree, the rideheight shouldn't have been touched. I don't like the moulded bumpers either tbh, and I think these cars need a lot of sidewall on the tyres to look right
@@douglaspealing5608IMO, Chieftain should have made a Range Rover Resto that appealed to a much wider audience, it should have looked 75/80% original WITH modern touches like Alcantara headliner door trims Seat's and improved engine and gearbox from Jaguar not US Chevy, and a Paint that is more suited to the bodywork.
@@lewiscannon8213 fully agree. Classic Range rovers actually drive pretty well if you know how they behave. It's counterintuitive to anything else I've driven but you can make them work for you. And yes, there are so many options tou could have uses from JLR that would have been better. Smaller, fit the car better and probably be more efficient too. Shit, the Rover V8 wasn't a bad engine. It could have made quite a bit more power with a tickle. I did really like the interior. Favourite part was the headlining... and the fact that it's not sagging and looking like a tent yet - I give it 10 years tho.
Effortless drive is an understatement. I had a 92 County that was just incredible. If you come across an upgraded Ardennes Green or Black. Notify me please 👍🏾 !
Immediatly reminded me of those jensen interceptor retromods. Now I know why. Good looking car. Wonder whats the price Edit: Just went on the site 155k GBP....hahahaha...yeah no sorry. This is more like a 30-40k car at best
155K...? absolute rip-off to say the least lol considering the engine costs 5k tops I have no idea where they got that figure from, looks lovely though
Haven't Seen All Of Your Video Uploads For A Long Time. But I Will Like This One Now. I Am A Fan Of Old Modified Land Rover Defenders 110s & MB G-CLASS 4X4. Old Range Rover Will Do Also. I'll Watch This Entire Video If I'll Get A Chance.
This Range Rover reminds me of the same kind in which the Rettendon Essex Murders occur in December 1995. I will never forget the registration number of that particular Range Rover which is: F424NPE.
I always liked range rovers, but poor reliability made me feel sad about the brand. But now with the LS motor... Hope I can afford one in the next 3-4 years. A resto-moded one obviously :3
Interesting independent suspension. But I've never heard of the even more powerful engines powering the Jeep Wrangler 392 V8 and various Mercedes G-Wagens causing their live front axles to lift at one end.
I've driven this car... quite a lot... and I absolutely love it. But this is only the tip of the iceberg. How about a hybrid V8/ electric version? Or a 4 door variant of the Xtreme? All cars are bespoke built to order and that includes the epic Interceptor R
I do love restomods but this is leaving me a little bit cold I love the engineering and its a beautiful example but not for me this one great insight as always mate great episode
Would be more authentic with a supercharged JLR 5.0 V8. Ride height looks too low and it needs some brightwork. Would be great to see one with some big off-road tyres. Great to see Chieftain doing Range Rovers.
this is but one modified RRC 1988 It was fitted with an LS engine and manual gearbox back in 2002 nearly 20 years ago so it hardly a new idea, By the way I have 20 other RRC's and the one with the LS is the best!
You definitely need lav mics. There’s no other way to get a good voice recording in the bunker. Once you get an audio guy that understands how to work with it, you won’t ever go back such is the increase in audio quality.
You might need to stop using a microphone mounted on the camera, as you get a band sound as the camera guys moves his hand on the camera Lanyard mikes may help
Totally agree...sound quality here is disappointing and very poor compared to previous videos in there....and the on-road audio is not really that much better. (Careful Mr JWW..other Tubers are a little better.)
