New Comic Book Reviews Week of 1/24/24 

Vol #2 is sheduled to be out June 18th, 2024. This coming Sept 11th will be the 5th anniversay. Of the release of Rom #1 Tuesday, Sept 11th, 1979. Marvel Comics database is a bit off on some of their original old comics release dates too. I remember it hit the stands in Milwaukee,WI ten days prior to my 18th birthday. I aquired two different copies with the store's date stamps on them. One is Sept 10th human error probably forgot to move the date to 11. My other is in fact stamped Sept 11th too. The 10th was a Monday, the 11th was that Tuesday.

Around 2008-2010 I hunted down writer Bill Mantlo's brother. Purely by dumb luck I found a listing in the NYC telephone listings. Of at least three Michael Mantlo's. Who is Bill Mantlo's brother. All three I left a very brief message. Asking if their brother was the Comics writer Bill Mantlo. Around six hours later the third number I called. Called back. Jackpot! I located Mike! We talked for about 45 mins. I asked him if my theory was correct. That Bill basically took Klaatu the human alien and Gort the intergalactic 8 ft tall giant robot space cop/gardian. And merged them into Rom ho was also 7 ft tall 850 LBS too. He said indeed he did. My other theory was that of the Dire Wraiths. Again, he basically took the plot from the 1956. Invasion of the Body Snatchers combined when the female Dire Wraiths arrived on earth. In Rom #49 were and Hybrid from Roms #17 & #18 with the X-Men. The females and Hybrid were much more ruthless and evil and resembled the Xenomorphs a lot from Alien/s movies. Again Mike told me I was dead on. Because he, Bill & myself grew up in the 1950's, 60's-70's. Watching reruns of all these 1950's classic monster/SF movies on tv. Every Saturday night and especially during October every halloween. We got tons of these old classics to watch. This scene when Gort arrives on the scene. Sure resembles the end pages of TRom #1.
