At least The Naked Cowboy knows his limits, and adheres to them. I walked up to him once, and we actually had a very civil, fun conversation. I gave him 5.00, just because he was so cool!
Yeah my parents warned me before we went when I was 12 and when we were there we saw i Statue of Liberty character on stilts in Times Square and I actually waved to him and he waved back I don’t think he was begging for money
Yep, learned the hard way never to accept anything from people on the streets of Times Square. Had a guy literally walk up to me and my family and put bracelets on our wrists saying they were “gifts” after we thanked him, he immediately started asking for money. We said no, and he quickly snatched them off of us and walked away pissed. They try to rope ya in with smiles, and kindness, don’t fall for it.
It’s this certain group that screws it up for everyone!! I love and grew up on these fun performances!! The non Disney characters!! These dirty Disney characters should be fined for using these Disney costumes. Plus why are there 5 Elmo’s??
i kept refusing for a picture but then they just grabbed my phone and said “just one!” then they took the picture. i wasn’t even smiling in it and i was uncomfortable then they said “$20 tip for each person” (there were 4 people. $80 in total.) we were traveling and we didn’t have a lot of money. we told them that but they wouldn’t leave us alone. my brother was there and he said no in a very stern way and they finally backed off.
@@monsorelong5066 yess they are horrible they will get in your face even if they think you took a pic of them. A man dressed in an Elsa costume pinned me down to a wall because he thought I took a picture of him when I was on FaceTime with my friend. Luckily my brother was there and pushed him off of me and scared him away.
Nothing is gonna change until Disney gets involved. Disney owns most of these characters and I don’t think Disney will like people to misrepresent Disney properties. I mean they threaten to sue a family for the family wanting to put Spider-Man on their child’s tombstone.
That is true. In fact, when these character mascots started their misbehavior, and news broke out about the Cookie Monster shoving a two-year-old, and the Elmo spewing anti-Semetic remarks, Sesame Workshop actually announced they were considering taking legal action against people in Times Square dressing up as Sesame Street's Muppets to protect the characters' goodwill and image, and even see if other companies wanted to join in (although I saw nothing else, so chances are they decided to not to go through with legal action).
@@jeremyriley1238 Well one of the Elmo Impersonators moved over to Cali from what I can tell, so they are doing something about it. Just taking a long time apparently. It's probably hard to track down every single one of these people if they are self employed!
i was walking out of the coliseum in rome when i was 9, obviously with my parents when some tin man type dude idk what he really was and he grabbed me, i tried to say no and like brush him off but he just grabbed onto my arm *tight* and than my dad punched him in the mouth. end of story💀
Andy Chipotle that’s a real shame and never should have happened. I’m sorry for you and your sister’s sake that it happened. It’s people like that who give the rest of us a bad name and why I had to stop doing it while I lived in NYC and in Los Angeles and Las Vegas.
Isn't that a really good price? The cheapest I have ever had was €5 and it was excellent, so every burger I have that usually costs way more has to be compared to it. Are burgers really that cheap in America?
I was a costumed character in NYC, L.A., and L.V. but then the troublemakers who give us a bad name ran me out and scared the tourists too much. I never violated a single rule, made some decent tips, nice while it lasted.
Princess Marlena I think I remember seeing you in Los Angeles. Sorry I didn’t take a picture with you, I would’ve tipped you. I had to hurry to catch the Red Line subway.
@@sean2015I didn’t wear the big heavy ones, and typically I would do it in the morning or just after sunset in the summer months. It was a good way for me to earn extra cash from tips, which I did.
This is clearly why Disney does BACKGROUND CHECKS for their characters. We don’t know if those people are using the money for drugs or anything like that or if they’re really trying to support their families
I was a victim from these same group of people 3 years ago. They come up to you very aggressively and pressure you into taking a picture with them. Afterwards they demand tips for not one, but every single one of them. Very scummy people and tactics. Ruined my whole trip and view on NYC.
I don’t know why people even want to take a picture with them the costumes look so bad it’s funny you can tell these costumes came straight out of China
2019 of March my mom and I went to NYC for the first time. I thought the people in costumes in timesquare were just being friendly but yea i was grabbed and pulled to take a photo with and forced us to give them more than $20.... It sucks for the tourists especially those who aren't from the US and its their first time...
One of the time square characters grabbed my sister and said let's take a photo, and I grabbed my sister and told the Times Square characters that grabbed my sister forcefully to let go of my sister, and they wouldn't let go and said the pictures are for free. They should stop grabbing kids without their consent.
That explains somehow why people wanted to give me money when I went outside with my costume. I didn't want to get money and didn't expect that some people would give me money. I want to put a smile on the face of others and I feel it's kind of wrong to take money for it. I try to entertain people and them smiling back at me is my payment.
wtf you go out to work as clown for free as a hobby? strange. there are probably better ways to help people, you could get atacked or arrested like this
@@flowrepins6663 Not really a clown. I'm a Furry. I also never got attacked for that... and it definitely is a great hobby. I not only do that for others but for me as well. I really love that suit cause it's a character I created and it has its own story and personality ^^. Also fursuiting is kind of like acting :3
I hate them, an Elsa character tried to fight me because I was ft my friend to show her time square and ironically an Elsa walked by and saw my phone and got in my face pinning me to the wall luckily I was with my brother that pushed the man away from me. Again I was not even pointing the camera to him it was all the streets and he was walking pass were I was showing her. They are disgusting people.
You know what I do... In the winter when I go to Times Square, I put on the hoodie of my jacket and walk with my head down They don’t even notice me lol
I had a guy dressed up like a monk grab my arm and put 3 bracelets on me then handed me a buddist charm then proceeded to snatch the 20 out of my hand i had for food. Im muslim and had no idea what to do with the charm without being disrespectful
Never trust a costume character that not only have bags on their shoulders, but more importantly, gets into your faces without your consent. Same can be said with brokers trying to give you “free stuff”, then demands mandatory “donations”.
Y’know, they really should just ban these costumed characters at this point since they’re so problematic. Don’t even know why they’re still allowing them.
Just a question if one grabs me and harasses me after me not giving them whatever they charge like 20 dollars if they touch me again am i allowed to punch back
Fuck! I knew my family got scammed. This makes me want to go back and bring my little brother with me and wait for them to touch him so I can start a fight
FINALY SOMEONE PUTS THIS OUT THERE! Wait, this is from last year..okay, so over spring break we stayed in Times Square. It seems like what I have seen from tv, and then I see creepy characters. Our parents told us not to go up to them. I can’t erase the images from my brain I had seen.OH, AND THEY DONT EVEN DO IT PROPERLY! THYE JUST TALK ON THEIR PHONES/TO EACH OTHER AND KEEP THEIR FREAKING HATS UP!
that's so annoying how they just grabbed kids like that. It weird to even just take a picture with them even if their nice and not grabbing you. Seeing this makes me sick 26 arrests! Then when I saw the trump one it made me even sicker, I swear..
"Just wanna make some extra money to support their families", they say. Really? Give me a break! They need to find REAL jobs like everybody else; there are hundreds of legitimate job listings to choose from, in and outside the city. What's wrong, honest hard work ain't good enough for them? I can't help but feel contempt and pity; the parental figures of those costumed individuals should've dedicated their offsprings' upbringings with mild discipline, so they'd learn how NOT make a desperate mockery of themselves. Hell, I'd do the same if I were to have kids of my own who take on such an abhorrent endeavor like that; just as mine have done unto me whenever I've gotten out of line and do you know why? Because it builds "CHARACTER".
support family aint no excuse for anything i work a real job and mever married or had kids, it coast too much but if someone decides to have kids its.their problem and responsability.
I thought this was a 1 time event, reading through these comments it seems like this happens often. I would be terrified considering the poor quality of the costumes. And people don’t use these costumes in a place like that to be nice.
It’s high time the NYPD started cracking down on these horrid, aggressive performers! They have NO business harassing random people for money or grabbing them AGAINST THEIR WILL. Something has to change.
i never had a kid and never bought into this support children and family bs. if you decide to have children is your responsability to support them, not use them for tips. no excuse
This shouldn't be allowed. Times Square is not Universal, Six Flags or Disney to have characters walking around. Besides, isn't it a copyright issue to dress as a studio character for money?
I really hate those costume characters. Recently I was stopped by a costumed pikachu. She shook my hand and ask me to take a picture with her. I say no but was stop by two others. And they all kept asking me to take pictures with them and won't let me go. Eventually I agree. ( and yes I was dumb enough to think it was free). Afterwards she ask me for donations and when I was about to hand her a five dollar bill, she told me I have to pay at least 6 since it was 2 per character. So I hand her a 10 dollar bill instead. But right afterwards she snatched the 5 dollar bill from my other hand and hand it to the other costume character..... And sadly since I don't like taking selfies I deleted those pictures. So I basically waste 15 dollars for something I don't even want. Though it was partly my fault for being so dumb.....
Kira Liken please don't blame yourself, as I am sure you saw, these con artist can get very aggressive. Also the others jump into the pic to get paid yes, its part of the scam as well. However they do so also to help intimidate the victim. I'm a big guy, a veteran, ( was wearing a hat that says I am and have visible tattoo's that identify as a veteran) and these guys still came out of nowhere onto me and my daughter. Even with my background, it was very intimidating. With that, I really had to become extremely aggressive myself to re-establish this boundary these ass clowns were clearly crossing. One was even standing in my way. Honestly, with the anxiety they were causing me, it was rather easy for me to meet force with force. I did not become physical, but i did let them know in a very vocal and direct manner that i did not like what they were doing, i declined the phoot op, and told them to get the hell up off me! I don't know, maybe they thought i was morphing into a psycho vet or something but it worked. Lol! Again i truly am sorry that happened to you. Next time try your best to avoid them, if you can't then politely by sternly tell them " No ". There ya go!
@@blarstone9322 they are criminals you guys should just ignore them and stay away from them if they go around you and touch or corner you you scream for help and police they will ran away like cowards.

Hopefully the NYPD is cracking down on these aggressive costumed characters in Times Square!!!! Tourists do not expect to be harassed by strangers for money.
I'm glad that here in Salem we have plenty of costume people walking around during Halloween, myself included and not once have I ever seen them do something like this. They're VERY respectful and don't even ask for tips. They just have creative little jars and such for them.
Those weren’t real furries. There’s a thing going on with PETA the same company that’s killed many pets. Where they dress up as poorly made furries and jack up cars, steal, beg, harass, it’s crazy. And I know you commented a year ago. But it was still going on then.
A Minnie Mouse today in Times Square as I was waiting at a crosswalk came up to my sister from behind and tried to pull her arm back onto the sidewalk to take a picture. She would not let go the first time I asked and I basically had to threaten a fist and pepper spray to get her to let go.
i have my husbands family from algeria visiting we live in nj we go to time square alot it took 1 second for them to grab the youngest child in our group and surround her. i had to very loudly and angry tell them No to get them to let go of her
That is SO MESSED UP they literally bum rush people with there faces sticking out, flip their head down for 2 secs then pop their money hungry faces back out demanding $...they would hate my ass, Ide take the pic then tell them ya'll got some $ for me cause im broke as a joke😂🤣😂🤣
