I used to ask my ( old) boss about if neatness matters because I have seen what looks like art and I have seen horror shows that pass inspection…..my boss answered that yes, it matters, to the two most important people…….you and me

Inspectors are about code that’s all. Professional standards is not code however it’s good practice. If an install is code compliant then it should pass. Workmanlike manner is very opinionated and hard to enforce. Some states it’s not allowed to be enforced by statue’s. Code and inspectors is bare minimum with exception of an local general code. Follow the NEC (the state is currently on) and professional standards generally in your area and the only thing you’ll ever fail are the local codes that you happen to not know about. Don’t matter where you are at.

110.12 is code for basically clean and professional manner usually doesn’t get called , not usually garbage to look at but inspector can call it and is very discretionary

Hi, I was wondering how many holes can you make in the top plate for wires going to the main panel. I didn't find much in the electrical code book accept they should be at least 1 1/4" from side of the stud.

I want to upgrade my panel from 100amp to 200amp. I have an old box and not only am I upgrading box but the amps. My question is will the inspector come in the house to test all the outlets or report me to the county for any other building code violations. Its a 100 year old house. Im just wondering if they would do that? Thank you

You can’t double up wires on studs? How do you guys wire stuff in a 2x4 wall?

This is definitely Canadian. Metal boxes and loop at the boxes. Those loops are huge tho.

Why is it wet inside? We aren’t allowed to rough in unless the house is dried in

Is that junction box installed low enough in that room above the door rough in? ruel of thumb is from the ceiling 4" minimum down FROM the top of the installed smoke detector and no more than 12" down from the bottom of the installed smoke detector.
@conquerallelectrical
@conquerallelectrical 2 года назад
Here in Nova Scotia smoke detectors must be on the ceiling or a maximum of within 1 foot or less to the ceiling if mounted on the wall.

Are you guys asked to run wires at the same level as the strapping or is that preference?
@conquerallelectrical
@conquerallelectrical 2 года назад
Between the strapping actually as a code rule. Or on top of the rafters if they are less than 1 meter space for storage and mechanically protected.

I’m wondering where you live, and do they require metal boxes? As an electrician, I would never use metal boxes unless required by the idiots of the jurisdiction. First of all you have to ground them ( more time) and they take more time to install. Also for your viewers, the blue boxes at the big box stores are garbage, they make black boxes ( don’t remember the manufacturer) that are a far better choice.

any particular reason why you are not running the wires in conduit? Around here everyone runs them in conduit.
@TwilightxKnight13
@TwilightxKnight13 13 дней назад
Conduit is rarely used in residential construction anymore. Romex has almost completely replaced it. Both because of cost of materials and labor/installation costs. I only know of a few jurisdictions that still use conduit, Chicago being one of them, largely because IBEW134 is incredibly influential in the city and has maintained a stranglehold on electrical work for many decades.
