New cubes on their own are rarely significantly faster, but often they are more enjoyable to turn and smoother which leads to more practice which leads to faster times. I like the new setup!

I like the animated Dana rants! :) I recently switched from an old Rubik's cube to a modern speed cube: avg 15% faster, single 30% faster. Also to your point, if I were to switch from one speed cube to another now, I wouldn't expect any difference.

another thing to mention is that if you get a new cube, it will only make you faster in the sense that your turning accuracy won't have to be as good because of the fewer lockups, so getting a new cube is kind of like the pay to win way to get better in regards to TPS, but really that is why you don't really NEED a better cube to improve

if you have anything better than a rs3m, your ability is the only thing holding you back. I used to main a really crappy moyu cube and back when I got it I thought you couldn't get better times with a different cube. that's until I bought my first gan and the rs3m 2020, since I lowered my times by more than 10 seconds. now I believe this is it. it's impossible to get bad times because of hardware if you spend 10usd or more.

Back Then: Vaseline makes you go faster Nowadays: As long as the Basic Speedcube Features are there (corner-cutting, and fingertrick-friendliness), it's a matter of preference. There are some people who main cubes like the MeiLong ... without the magnets.

I totally agree that new cubes dont make you faster,I think each new cube nowadays is realesed for a different feel,even I still use the 354 v1 and air sm and I have absolutely no problem with them,by the way, amazing video,and I came 45th rank in an online cubing competition with an 12.04 seconds ao5,and beat my pb of 8.05 sec with a 7.52,!!!,I am from India
