It'll be very interesting to see how your tier list compares to Art of War's version. :) Also, the fact that the concept of "survivability" is the topic of conversation about Custodes of all things with their basic T6, 3W, 2+, 4++ says a lot about the state of the game rules.
fall back shoot and charge/ reactive move/ +1 to wound in melee vs not full strength unit can all be made free with a reg shield captain as long as you don't also select a sister unit.
Just a slight language pronunciation Ares (air-eez), named after the Greek god of war. Still, that’s coming from someone who wouldn’t stand a chance speaking Russian as well as you speak English.
Thank you my friend, I’ll do my best to remember that though can’t promise anything yet, because Russian is a very stubborn language in terms of bad pronunciation habits 😂
@@StorytellerCharm Well, Custodes has actually a Latin origin, not Greek (there’s a mix of Greek and Roman in the Custodes). Some knowledge friend of mine told me the Latin pronunciation should sound closer to “Coustodesse”, even if GW officially pronounce it like you wrote.
@@xen3534😂I felt this comment coming and I’m happy it happened because I love language. My intention wasn’t to go too far back into the etymology but keep it simple for the sake of the creator’s goal of being accurate with the canonical pronunciation used by GW. But you are absolutely correct. I Love being around fellow word nerds.
I bought it too, and just so disappointed in it. The layout, lore/stories, rules. Like it's all trash. There is a story 4 pages long, 1 is just pictures, 2 and a half pages are about Nova marines...then a slight shout out to sisters of silence...like WTF?? This is what you came up with? And not to mention all the female custodes and sisters of silence parts, it's like I was reading sisters of battle codex. And some of the reading was so terrible it was putting me to sleep trying to read it. They didn't even go over the units like in ever other codex lol. For the custodes side just Trajann and shield captains, done lol. So terrible. I don't want to call for peoples jobs, but like whoever did that codex...should be fired. Also, what's up with all the skeleton custodes pics?? So wierd. 100% Trash.
I try playing my custodes infantry army, but it just doesn't work. On top of that it is not fun, with people droping stuff like interceptors and killing whole squads. I don't have and can't afford FW tanks , so anything heavy vehicle or shoting armies are very feels bad. I tried running three MM contemptors, but had no success with them. I have a single land raider , but it isn't resilient enought to survive shouting in my area. Also l have HUGE problems with melee and msu melee armies.
I understand your pain - don’t worry, they’ll see that Custodes are underperforming and we’ll get fixes relatively soon, in 2-3 months if not faster. For now - you can get the 3D printed Caladius from Etsy, they are 2.5x cheaper and similar quality.
I won't shelve my golden boys. They are my favourite faction and fit my playstyle best out of any faction.... But i can't really blame people that will do so. Even if there are ways to play this that are decently strong enough i have never been so... Unexcited about the rules i had to play with in all my years playing Warhammer. And i played pre codex 9th edition tau. Everything seems so... Bland. The flare that custodes always had seems lost. And it feels particularly painful since index actually felt like the best representation of what custodes were supposed to be. It might have been too strong but it should be fixed with points. No custodes player would complain about paying lots of points per model if the models are strong individually. And the part that feels the worst is the fact that when you look at datasheets you see the mutilated remnants of the glimmering glory they were supposed to be. So yeah, ill play them, and I'll find a way to have fun doing so, but ill be doing so despite the rules, not thanks to them
I absolutely agree with what you said! All I can add is that I’m sure the 10 thousand will rise up once more and march into the glorious future to fight the enemies of the Imperium
I'm new but why are you saying talons is very niche. Like talons interlocked strat for example, you don't need sisters with a unit to use it. It says "Up to two custodes units". So you can just use it on a single custodes unit, such as guard with kyria, which would make their shooting pretty good no? Or use it on a block of custodes terminators?
Yes, I mistook the requirement for 2 units. Still, the strats themselves aren’t very powerful and your detachment rule still requires you to keep sisters near Custodes, to have a measly 5+++ against mortals
I disagree with Achillus breakdown. Achillus is our cheapest dreadnought as of rn. It’s also our best tank Shock target. You save it as a glass cannon for tank Shock vs Necrons and other big units that r hard to deal with
I’ve done it. I do it. It’s great. seals the deal with lethal martial Ka’tah stance. Feels bad when tank Shock completely whiffs but it is a thing. Other than that it’s auto include for me
update on my latest battle report I did not bring an achillus dreadnought. he was sorely missed and desperately needed! all of my infantry units were effectively screened out all game. This game i actually needed a 1 model unit that is able to find gaps along the battlefield. he's the cheapest, strongest, and most consistent/reliable dread. Rapid ingress him for havoc. He's meant to die and take highest priority target with him. always start in reserves
i also believe that the codex encourages us to pick a new army from a competitive angle, but then i remembered why i started collecting custodes. I dont think there is a universal sound strategy rn (aside from caladius grav). now its up to each individual player to choose reliable tactic from the codex and master their units according to their playstyle. Wardens, allarus and venatari is the way to go for now (sticky objective guard in fly transport with small allarus i think is extremely viable)
