I work at Dacia factory and so does my wife and my father. My mother and grandfather worked there as well (he helped building the factory in the 60s). I grew up in Mioveni and I still live there. I never had any other car besides Dacia. Me and my family had Dacia 1310, 1410, SuperNova, Solenza, Logan, MCV, Sandero and now Duster. I can tell you that Renault saved the factory back in 99 when they came to Mioveni and they did an astonishing thing with the brand. I'm so happy Dacia lives on and has gotten to this level of fame and appreciation
Dacia Duster is a beast. I was caught in a snow storm in Iceland along the mountain road. It was a weather bomb. All the fancy 4x4 electric cars broke down in the extreme cold but the Duster ploughed on through. Solid trustworthy car. I will always buy one.
That says it all for me. I love 4x4 cars, Toyota mitsubishi is all I've looked at because of the reliability but your comment just just proves how good the duster is..cheers for that..
It's really a shame that Dacia doesn't serve in North America. There are way too many cars here that are too complex and overpriced. Lower class North Americans are desperate for cars like Dacias. As a 16 year old, I'd love to buy a Dacia Sandero as my first car.
@lightsfansofthewest481 North America tends to only sell cars that it produces. Doesn't like a competitive market that could risk the high prices of their own cars I guess.
Because of shortage of new cars, old cars have higher value and the used 4 yo dusters now still cost not much less than 10k. Not a good time to buy a car.
@Damar Fadlan thats because you pay VAT 20% so that goes to the pocket of gov and your car has already lost that in value as soon as you drive off from the dealership. so basic duster 14845 and from that 2474 goes strait to the taxman. I assume you work for the money and you pay tax, and you buy a car and you pay VAT and fill it up with petrol every time and you pay a huge load of tax again £66 (and like 72% of that is tax) for a 38 litre tank... ohh yes and you pay VED and you pay insurance (also taxed) and so on...
Had one for 3 years back in 2014 when they were criticised by a badge snobs. AFAIK Car Wow wasn't giving them nice review either. "Hard plastic, dated looks" etc they said. Everyone predicted they'll depreciate like hell in few years and will disappear off the face of the earth. The best car I've ever had. Period. Value for money and then some. Utilitarian, reliable, nice sounding diesel, spacious boot. Over a period of 3 years haven't had a single problem. Would buy again if opportunity presents itself.
I drove this on a recent trip. It was a 2hrs drive to get there and noticed no wind noise etc. Found it extremely comfortable and silent (not sure wind sound you mention) . The space inside and especially the boot size beats most other cars. If you have kids it would also be perfect for car seats in back, great height to lift kids in and out with loads of room for buggies, baby bags, toys etc etc etc. This is a great car. Unless your an utter car snob, this car is fantastic.
Nearing two years of ownership of a comfort trim 2020 Duster with the 100hp 1.0 three cylinder. Super satisfied with it. I've travelled Europe a lot, use the back for sleeping. 25k kilometres now. Last trip was Slovakia -> Croatia and back, around 1400km, and I averadged 5l/100km. Got no 4x4, but when it's dry I don't shy away from the woods and every week I visit our family vineyard which has driving over terrain to get to it. Very good cars. Recommend. My father just got the Sandero Stepway two months ago, also with the 1.0, lovely ride too.
2 year owner, traveled Europe, 25k on the clock... how? I drive to work and back (36km round trip) with just a few travels per year and have 70k in 3 years...
@Michael Bigdongovic how are you satisfied with 5008? I am looking to buy Kodiaq next year but the prices skyrocketed... 5008 is cheaper to get but I got impression that build quality is not on the same level as Kodiaq. Still a year to decide though
I have the exact same car, but on long journeys, I average more like 8 l/100 km. I never ever get less than 6 l/100 km, and that's if I'm driving on country roads doing 100 kph. I really don't know how it's possible to get 5l with this engine.
You know, the credit doesn't just go to Renault, tbh... and it's a little insulting/demeaning. The *Dacia* plant & Romanian engineers work very hard on these models - which are not just blueprinted & ordered from France.. 🤨 So please give credit, where credit is due. Would you say the same thing about *Skoda* for example? (they were taken over by Volkswagen, right?) - so please, be aware of some preconceived ideas (maybe), that Romanian products & producers are trαsh - so this "must be all Renault's doing". (bc in the end, it might affect how you view *Romanians* as a whole)
@@jaberwensh600 Nah just messin wit you bro I’m trying to pretend to be like that timestamp guy who only loves BMWs. You know, the Indian guy with a 5 series pic. He does timestamps in all of his drag race videos and not talk about the cars. I have the mindset that he doesn’t know about those cars so I pretend to be like him.
Had my Duster bifuel a few weeks now..... I love it! Its Simple without the gimmicks I wouldnt use and need I say anything about it being cheap run on LPG. I have Dogs so the boot space is great and the hard plastics are easy to clean.
That's the Mat I love. Reviewing a Duster, and comparing it to R8. Making the potential customer of a Duster feel special by doing a full review will all things considered. Full format review. Classic Mat.
I must admit I did laugh at the how to let a fart of the cabin bit! 😂 Thing is the quoted 0-60 time was more than likely for the 2wd diesel version and not the 4wd as it has a different gearbox than the 2wd with a shorter 1st gear for downhill decents when offroading. Yes it will be noisy when accelerating but all diesels are. I think they're cracking value for money and a good buy.
Does exactly what it's meant to do - apart from the claimed 0 to 60 but let's be honest, that doesn't matter as it's quick enough here - and at a great price. Good long term prospects too and reliable and sturdy. Comfy as well, including a longer cruise. Comparisons have to be 'apples/apples', not 'apples/oranges.' Job done. Well done Renault.
@@purwantiallan5089 not really, it's a decent car all around. besides, it's not even that good for offroading. bunch of undersized parts cause wear pretty quickly on the engine mounts. it's not expensive to change them but you have to do it all the time. unless of course they fixed it since last time i owned one
Got my 2023 Duster, and I do know people tend to always praise their car no matter how old or ugly it is, but this car is freaking amazing. They did incredible things with the design which was the biggest turn off when buying Dacia, they got rid of the noise inside the coupe when driving, the comfort inside is actually pretty amazing for the price. Overall, whoever laughs at you for driving Dacia has no idea what he is talking about.
Yep, I come from Poland where people used to drive old Dacias, so they look at them differently. However, I live in the UK now and I got myself new Jogger and just love it. People should not compare Diacia 1310 with the latest technology. I drove it to St Tropez and back, then to Poland and back, all within few months and no issues. Drives and handles lovely. I will definitely stay with this brand for longer.
Meh, I'm at the point of unsubscribing now. This Carwow channel has lost the plot in terms of reviews, and it seems everything that doesn't have a "posh" badge, is reviewed in the most condescending and obnoxious way.... like ewww, here's what poor people drive. It's sad really because I first watched Matt on his iMotor review of the Ferrari California over a decade ago, but now the content is rinse and repeat... pointless supercar drag races, and reviews of luxo barges which the majority of us would never be able to afford. When we do get a review of an everyday, attainable car, we get this mess
Well said mate. I noticed this as well, it is Matt, other channels seem to cate about normal people, whereas Matt seems to be on a mission to hate Dacia. He has Polish roots,so maybe this why.
What utter bollox you people are typing. It’s an honest non technical review, which most people, particularly potential buyers of cars within this price range will appreciate.
Matt dont get the wrong idea of why the fuel cap has to be released from the inside. idk about UK but in my countries, ppl get their fuel stolen. thats why it shouldnt allow anyone to open from outside unless you have the key to unlock your car and release it.
Many cars have a remote opening fuel lid, and have had them for many years, I cannot see why that is even an issue, and as far as the soft suspension goes we are back to slagging of the very thing that gives the vehicle any off road prowess without any explanation, the two wheel drive has firmer suspension as it does not need to keep all its wheels in ground contact to maintain traction due to the fact that it wouldn't be in that situation, due to pushing the extra metal the 4x4 version doesn't quite get the same to the gallon as my conventional one, the only real criticism I have is the rather light tow weight, my old Discovery was three and a half tons, but at thirty three to the gallon as opposed to fifty eight point seven (my best yet), you can't have everything. When you next criticize a four wheel drive for soft suspension could you please qualify why it has it or can we see Ferrari's criticized for lack of ground clearance when off road, fair is fair.
i just love how it looks. if i had the money. i would go to town on it in terms of mods mods, suspension, brakes, engine upgrades, the lot. make it into a super SUV
in more expensive cars, they fuel filler is locked shut when the doors are locked. This is achieved by a solenoid which would add cost and complexity, and dacia are a bare bones kind of brand
@@RD19902010 Yes i know, but thats because Alfa are not trying to make the cheapest car possible. Base model hatchbacks back in the early 90s had fuel flaps that only unlocked when you pulled a lever in the cabin... but again, that added unnecessary cost to the car. You either care about car cost, or you care about security and other nicities
We've got 4 models in South Africa (badged by Renault with more attractive grill) - all with the 1.5 diesel engin. I'm driving a 2019 4x4 (manual). Very frugal, enough punch when overtaking, excellent offroad ability - very short 1st gear serves as a low range gear in 4x4 lock mode. Couldn't get anything else at the price except Suzuki Jimny which is far less practical and heavier on fuel. Definitely the Duster automatic for city.
Usually love the CarWow reviews although this one pissed me off a little bit. Just because it's a cheap(er) car doesn't mean you should treat it like shit and treat it like a joke.
I’ve had mine 2 weeks and driven 1000 miles through France in it. I can safely say that all the 5 ‘issues’ mentioned are irrelevant. It’s a fantastic car for the money, there is no excessive road noise, the cruise was fine on the French roads and the blind spot sensors are super helpful. 4 adults with luggage and a baby seat in the middle. No issues with comfort or room. I think the clowning around distracts from the review and makes people lose interest. It’s a great car and I’m happy about saving 10 grand over the price of the Civic I had before. It was a very wise move.
Hi Mat for proper launch dacia recomend to start from 2 gear. The first gear is dedicated for off road use or with hi loads.Except of that this is car worthy of money.

i think that the carwow presenter is NIT PICKING, ive had one for 8 years and for the price its great value , ive no issues with stupit things he has commented on , is a value car and it does what it says on the discrpition,
The Dacia brand and all of its models should come to the US. It would have a market that is almost nearly abandoned, which is cheap affordable cars for basic transportation. I can guarantee you that the Duster would be a hit due to its affordability and the fact that it’s an SUV. But of course, their models will have to pass regulations so that may be a reason why they can’t sell here.
There are loads of options for cars around 15 to 20k in US. Except most people don't want most bareboned car and those who do probably can't even afford the 15k.
@@CoreMaster111 I understand where you’re coming from, but that market is literally becoming extinct! The Chevy Spark and Hyundai Accent are recent examples of models that were discontinued! And it doesn’t help that everything is getting expensive nowadays! And it’s just sad how everyone wants the latest bells and whistles in their cars! Yeah they’re cool and all, but everyone needs to realize cars from like 10+ years ago didn’t have all that stuff!
Appears to be a fairly decent vehicle. I still am convinced that this could do well in Australia , with the bigger petrol engine, Auto tranny & AWD. Would absolutely knock any of the Chinese offerings here for 6. The diesel appears a bit underdone for Australia & manual transmissions are almost a rarity here anyway. Now all we need are a network of importers, dealers, parts , warranty etc. Just need someone to BRING THIS IN .
In UAE, we get this car with a 2.0L 4cyl and 4 speed auto. Would be good for Australia also I guess. The 2.0L engine is not available in Europe because emissions regs there stopped production.
@@aaryeshg.6526 That car, with 2l gasoline engine and 4 speed auto, are made at Mioveni plant, Romania. Unlike the one in the video, who are made in India (like all the right steering Dacias). A company from Romania succeeded importing back the UAE type Duster, with official paper that is an euro 6 car. And you can buy it in Romania for ~ 20k euro.
@@BogdanBogdan-um9zi that is very nice. It's actually a good engine here, super relaxed for road trips and strong air conditioner, my family had it with that engine for 8 years from new and it ticked along nicely to 150k km before selling and it's still going along to this day. The only thing I hated is that 4 speed auto. 😂 The gear ratios are too long and ruins the smoothness and acceleration. It is a little juddery in traffic but transmission never broke. At highway speeds its great. I imagine it would be better with a 6 speed auto. It needs closer ratios to make it really smooth.
@@gluttonousmaximus9048 Renault Aust have been looking at this here for a while. So far no vehicles have been bought in here for evaluation purposes as yet. But I gather it's still in their plans & still likely possibly in 2023. Can only hope.
Light off-roader that absolutely surprises and surpasses any expectations in sand. Drifts like a dream albeit with a bit of understeer at first. Fun, cheap, decently sized aftermarket, perfect for Romanian roads or bad roads in general.
Mine just arrived, getting it next week. That was 5 months since I ordered it. They did have to deliver it without the screen because, chip shortage, so I'll have to wait for that one but I'm super excited to get my Duster. It's a cute little SUV and I don't care how budget it is - it's cheaper than many used cars I could buy, it drives nicely, and it costs peanuts to repair if anything breaks. I've been waiting for a carwow review of it since before I ordered it though. I'm glad there's one now XD
It’s mainly because automatic transmission cars are the standard in america, whereas in Europe manuals are the standard. And manuals are much cheaper to produce.
1) I m acctually amazed by how nice people outside romania find Dacia to be, in romania most people prefer to buy a 20 year old rusty sh!t box from Germany or Spain bcs "It s safer and better" And 2) I ve had my duster since August and only now I find out that you can t adjust only the height of the steering wheel?!?!?!
Loved this car, owned for 6 yrs but renault didn’t care to give proper updates despite ruling the segment and being the one with best ride and space at that time.
Buy Buy Buy! I have my Dacia Duster 2018 Prestige version and It's honestly the best car ever for me. 0 problems so far and I am at 45k kilometers as of now.
My God, you have to pull the lever to open the tank door and you need to keep your finger on the window button? Have we become that lazy that we find this so difficult? I swear we are turning into vegetables. Ridiculous!
I have had my duster 1.0 lpg for a year now, 17000 care free and cheap miles, the lpg was 43p now 73p a litre and an awful lot less than petrol, i get about 40 miles per gallon ,so its saved me a fortune, the car is quiet and fun to drive , and my very first car with air con....lol.
Sorry but i don't like dacia at all it feels cheap it's bulky and i think my money can buy a better car (in israel it costs twice as much as in uk, around 26k pounds and goes up ). dacia got a huge known problem with their brakes systems and they even got sewed once because of it and found guilty. sorry but dacia will never be my car of choice.
I’ve had two of these. Did 150k and 199k respectively. Had each for three years. First had to go to the garage once and the second not at all apart from servicing. Alas I do big mileage and many hours in the car. It’s seats are it’s weakest point. Not supportive over a full day. Overall an excellent motor.
@@noahuhrenholdt3389 The safety rating for personal use doesn't matter much. It's got everything but some electronic gadgets which are unnecessary for an experienced driver and the problem with all the aids including general road safety is that it lulls the driver into false sense of security. That in essence obviously lowers attention. And airbags can only do so much on which front Duster hasn't got a problem as far as I know.
Same with the gas cap. Just imagine the burden of pulling a lever with a fingers worth of effort. Sometimes I wonder how we made this far as a species.
Best bang for your buck without the over priced tack you get on modern tech cars now days...this review doesn't help having a posh mummy's boy reviewing a decent car being sarcastically fobbed off.
