What we really need is a system for storing power tools in a repeatable way. The problem with these bins is that they are just hyped up stackable Tupperware. It keeps the tools 'safe' from just sliding around the back of your pickup truck but a regular Tupperware bin could do that. If I have a Dewalt drill, impact driver, hammer drill, circular saw, jig saw, sawsall, narrow crown stapler, framing nailer, I still have to simply lay them in a HEAP at the bottom of these bins. This doesn't keep them neat, orderly and safe. If they truly want to be at the TOP of the game. They need to have inserts for these bins or some sort of internal racking system. So I can put all of these tools in the same spot EVERY time. This means a spot for the drill, driver, hammer drill, a spot for the circular saw, etc. You want to be able to get to a jobsite and within minutes of getting to the right spot being able to start a job? Right now with these bins, sure i can get to the location but I still have to sift through the mess I made at the bottom to get what I need. Sure, for those of us that are highly organized you can create your own system but then lets not even talk about sharing this system on the jobsite, then you are talking a real soup of cords, batteries, bits, tools, etc. Long story short, this system doesn't begin to start solving the main problem tool owners have and that is storing these in a way that is more efficient.
God yes! The problem is that it would still only work if you stick to a single brand. I have DeWalt, Makita and Festool tools, so I ended up making an insert out of plywood myself. Managed to fit 6 power tools of various brands + batteries into a single systainer that way, and everything is organized nicely. (No space for the chargers though, but I rarely do big jobs, mostly it's landlordy stuff). In the end I stuck with the Systainers. I like the easy stacking and one-handed operation, but it's mostly because I already had a couple of them plus the trolley. And I rather like their cantilever toolbox. They don't feel nearly as tough as the DeWalt containers but for me that's not much of an issue. Still, if I was building a new "EDC" tool setup, I might go for the new DeWalt boxes.
I guess you can get foam cut out to fit your tools. I saw another RU-vidr you sells such product to keep your tools Organized. He sound like he is from Australia
I totally agree. I have to literally pull out all my tools to get to a tool that is at the bottom of the box and then put everything back and then get to work a lot of waisted time .
Foam inserts. Kaizen foam, ShadowFoam. Starting from purchased blanks pre-shaped at the manufacturer to drop into the drawers or toolbox, you can self-customize inserts for any combination of any model of any type of any brand of tool there is, providing they aphysically fit in the insert (also available for other storage systems). holds them securely with a distinctive cutout for each tool. Addresses every concern expressed above.
The fact that they listen to their customers will keep them in the game I love it! I personally only buy Milwaukee and Makita but for a toolbox this might be a better affordable option
I have the DS Carrier, and wall mount. I don’t have Dewalt tools, and probably never will, but they really knew what they were doing with this system! This shelf like system means soooooo much to me, and my organization!
Just purchased this 3 stack rolling cart and its seriously changed how efficient I am at jobs now! My entire daily cordless collection fits in the bottom box including 15 batteries
It's nice that the 1.0 and the 2.0 are compatible as far as the locking goes. In the past the consumer has been stuck with what they have. With this system it's easy to mix and match.
Just bought the 2.0 a week or so ago and absolutely love it. I used to use the husky stackable which was absolutely trash compared to the 2.0. Also when I ordered my box I order the regular 3 stack box and they sent me a extra one of the small boxes so definitely happy
@VCG Construction. Thanks Vince for the thorough review. What makes your review video different is that other people don't have a 2.0 radio or a DS Carrier for testing. It's too bad Dewalt didn't make the 2.0 boxes totally compatible with the DS carrier with that rear bracket. Even if we don't padlock the central locking mechanism, using that mechanism is added security in keeping the boxes secured to the carrier when moving. Hope you and your family stay safe and well.
One huge mistake Milwaukee made with their boxes is there’s a ton of wasted space. The clear lid screw bins are bigger on the outside will having less space on the inside. They’re way tougher but that’s a big deal breaker for me. Something Dewalt needs to fix with the dolly box is the wheels aren’t bolted on, they just have a press fit cap that falls off.
had my toughsystem set for almost 2 years . i'm a mostly harry home owner type now but i still do a few side jobs here and there and these boxes have done well for me . they look cool/professional and help keep my stuff mostly organized . more than i really need at this point , but it sure would have been nice to have these back in the day . take care .
I had no idea the rack system existed. I almost switched to Milwaukee at a higher cost. Being able to access a lower box, without removing all the boxes above it is a big deal. Somehow I had missed this video until I was looking for info on how the rack works. Thanks
Great video! Thank you! I purchased the Dewalt Toughsystem 2.0 wheeled bottom box and two of the 1/2 boxes for my current load out.. could not figure out for the life of me HOW the handle REMOVED to place in a truck with a tonneau cover…. Instructions? Didn’t say. Home Depot employee didn’t know. Only 1 DeWalt bottom box in stock. So bought it.. So YES! Red locks at the bottom! Hey you just saved me a 60 mile round trip to Home Depot to try to exchange and or return the box! Yes, my handle comes off now…. Thank you!

The best unit for organizing and carrying tools is the two drawer units. Tool in the bottom drawer, and the accessories in the top drawer. That lets you get things out, without unstacking, three or four components to get the tool you need. Which will always be at least three down the stack.
I needed tool boxes and I discovered the toughsystem 2.0 back in July. It was great timing for their availability. I love the boxes. You can't go wrong with them.
@@o04n7h0n90o The packout has to be 'disassembled' to get at something that's not on top. The tough system is independent when on those brackets. Saw a video of a guy that welded up a frame in his van for those brackets. As far as I could see, it was the ultimate in clean, orderly, quick access. One drawback that deWalt may or may not have addressed is the shitty, overpriced radio. Between to "auto-break" antenna, the shitty reception and the radio interference when charging batteries made me swore to never buy another one.
@@burnerjack01 Milwaukee is coming out with (or already has) a 2 wheel dolly that has bottom mounts and rear mounts similar(ish) to the DeWalt one in this video. Not exactly the same thing but it's a nice step up from needing the bottom rolling box.
I’ve got - festool, packout and dewalts TS 1.0 - lately I’ve repacked my tools into the dewalt boxes, mainly the milk crates with handles that have been modified with magnetic strips from harbor freight on the inside and out. Also metal straps so I can hand tools. Finally this all works on the dewalt fancy hand truck.
Just drove an hour and a half to grab one of the 2.0 boxes. Shed was broken into and they got a couple of things. So in my journey in replacing them it seems this is a great option to grab as well. Never understood how great a system like this could be until recently. Happy with the purchase for sure.
@@burnerjack01 no sir I do not but I spend good money on tools, and accessories. Some people do hobbies I do tools I use em everyday and my pack out helps me stay organized and keeps my tools safe in the back of my work van. They are expensive but imo worth every penny I bought mine a few months ago and just add to it as I need to
I can't wait to get these. They will fit on my Macsimizer Tool Cart. My cart comes with rails designed to hold the tough system boxes. Once I get them in I'll shoot a video and show it to you guys. I think Mechanics will get a kick out of this. 🙂
Well my old man loves it! Just bought the box kit shown in this bid for £149 which is absolutely amazing. He has plenty of 1.0 but loves his new 2.0 kit. Just waiting for the inserts and half size boxes to finish his set up. Hay V.C.G you rock 🤘🏼
My wife got me a 2.0 for Christmas so I can tote all my tools around at once. I'm very excited to see the options come out for these and hope they stick with this system for a while
I prefer the 1.0 top box over the 2.0 because the the drop down lid storage. It’s where I keep my pencils and other small things. I found another thing out about the 2.0 boxes I do like though is that clear plastic piece on the front can come off and you can make a label for that box. And the 1.0 radio won’t work on the 2.0 boxes either. Just waiting to see what other options they come out with for the 2.0
I really like DeWALT TOUGHSYSTEM 2.0. Few more suggestions: 1. Make the bottom large box detachable and only trolley left out. This will help to use just the trolley for other uses. 2. Once the trolley only is available, large/medium/small boxes can be arranged in any order, for ex: medium/large/small, small/large/medium, etc. I could not so far find this kind of combination with any other manufacturer. Hope they incorporate this suggestion.
I have had the DS carrier with the 3 modular boxes since 2013. It is still hands down the best. I'm kinda sick of everyone comparing the 2.0 against the Packout when Dewalt makes a better setup.
Wish I had gotten through all of your videos😞.. I love DeWalt everything!!! I didn’t know they came out with the NEW 2.0... I’m not slow.. lol.. I’ve been extremely sick for awhile.. I went to my Home Depot app to order.. after I saw your video.. Because they don’t have it in my local store I can’t order it for delivery😞.. oh well. I’ll figure out something in order to get it here. Keep it up guys great work!!!
The drop down tray on the 1.0 was a practical feature for organising smaller parts. I think the only improvement on the 2.0 here is the quick release mechanism.
Picked up mine with a medium size “milk crate” for only $174 from Home Depot after military discount. I’m super excited to organize my tools in this system!
I have dozens of the tough system 1.0 boxes and 2 of the DS carts which is how I mainly move them boxes around. For Dewalt to leave off the metal tabs for the cart to lock onto was a big mistake IMO. Especially if you can't lock the 1.0 radio onto a 2.0 box. I wonder, can the metal tabs be added to the 2.0? Great video Vince!
I would like to see them produce a box that would accommodate the pole saw. In my mind thats a tool that should have come with a box designed for it. There's connections on both ends of it that need to be protected
I love my 1.0. This has convinced me to give 2.0 a try. But my two ds carriers are the best. Convenient strong and rugged. How I lived most of my life without them i’ll never know. lol.
Full review, just wanted to see inside the boxes to see how big the storage actually was and if the design internally would affect storing certain items inside but not one shot of actually inside any of the boxes. Also want to know if the bottom of the trolley folded up with all the boxes disengaged so the whole trolley itself could lay flat.
Hi, I bought these boxes because in my work I needed a storage that could protect my tools from water, everything is very good, I love how these boxes look and their internal space, along with the dimension of the wheels that makes it easy to transportation, but, I think it's wrong, that when it rains and your box gets wet, the water accumulated on the lid when you open your box all the water falls into the box. Which seems like a shortcoming to me, because the time they spent designing the 2.0 and making it waterproof has a flaw. so that this does not happen you have to drain or dry the lid before opening it. other than that when removing the handle there is a protruding area left, and yesterday the base of the handle broke. I am a little disappointed, because the boxes are visually very robust and resistant, and the use that I give them is in a service and maintenance company.
Dang Vince.. i was expecting a shotty tool system from Dewalt. I was wrong.. im personally a milwaukee guy but they're borderline overpriced on some accessories. This seems like a viable option for the added mobile versatility tool storage for my tools that are always "on the go" and never stationary long enough to make it back into the toolbox. $500 gets spendy for a mobile tool station and practicality but I can tell just by the video.. milwaukee still seems superior as far as ruggedness and robust modular set-up.. might get a dewalt for the hell of it still. Thanks for the time spent on the video. Now I got an excuse to go check them out in person. Great review!
Just purchased 2.0 today. I like the price already, and it was hard too find the bottom box wthe wheels, do to a shortage on plastic. I will transfer my tools tomorrow,.
I used to have that system Than I upgraded to the big yellow and black tubs from home depot Double the price of the 5 gallon bucket but worth the upgrade
It’s still lacking in comparison to the pack out. Were I on the Milwaukee platform I’d still go pack out due to the variety and quality. But hopefully tough system continues to ad more features to bump it up to the pack out level. A tough system vacuum would be good as well and some soft bags. And hopefully Dewalt actually release things a lot quicker
Why don’t you guys do videos of your construction project when your channels called vcg construction but you guys only do tools video is it Possible you guys could do videos of your construction sites
Made my Powerstation fit the 2.0. It requires some plastic removal on the four feet as we as the latch areas. After removing 3/8ths inch from the back of the latch areas it fits snuggly. It sits on my battery/cord storage for the powerstation.
A person with a 3D printer could develop a cottage industry making the little bits DeWalt left out. Such as the rear latches, for the boxes to latch them to the carrier. Or the divider/battery holders for the dual battery charger. The opportunities are pretty limitless.
I have the 1.0 system. My biggest problem with Dewalt is their lack of compatibility with their systems, you can’t lock your hardware containers or anything together with the 1.0 system while pack out is completely compatible with every single box they put out
I just checked-out the Dewalt ToughSystem 2.0 in a store, and the button mechanism for the handle was a bit dodgy on one of the units - it sometimes wouldn't pop back up or lock in place. The Milwaukee PackOut system's handle lock-spring was a lot more reliable, but there was also a heap of slop in the handle in the Milwaukee, and it feels like it could break at the junction between the top & bottom part of the handle. It felt like it needs another centimetre of overlap between the top & bottom part of the handle to give it more strength & rigidity. Also, it's a pity the bottom box is so big - it could get very very heavy if filled with the wrong tools - I'd want to pick some very bulky but light-weight gear to put in there, like a hard-hat & face-mask. I'm still very much leaning toward the Dewalt though, despite the dodgy handle button mechanism, because it's only about 60% of the cost of the Milwaukee in Australia. But at AU$349, I am very reluctant after seeing a unit with a faulty handle button.
I'll stick with my 1st gen. I think I like the box latches better and the locking carry handle on the bottom box better. I also don't wanna give up the locking system for the DS carrier, wall and van mounting system.
With the 1.0 roller big box if u have the handle up the tstack standing up fts and is held by the handle. Best way is to have the big roller and medium box on then with the handle up ur tstacks fit perfectly
What I don't like is the dolly handle smashes your hand when you tilt over 3 fully loaded boxes. I have to stuff something between the cases and the handle for comfort. That's just dumb! Also you can't open a lid with the handle extended [except for the base] without dropping the handle. Why?
I have 3 of the small boxes and one of the large boxes, I just got the garage wall storage system today the carrier is next, I need all the space I can get in the garage so im glad dewalt made a garage wall storage system for the tough system. PS tough system 1.0 radio does not fit with the 2.0 boxes unless you wiggle it into place and latch it manually by pushing down kind of hard
I actually bought 2 DS450 rolling toolboxes because I was able to get them cheap. Will keep one as they really are awesome! The other one: well if anyone in Germany is interested... 😁 Anna
Can the side clips from the 2.0 attach onto the 1.0? I'm asking because the 1.0 seems like a stronger box (in the long run of things). Great video by the way!
Got to agree with video Toughsystem 1 ds carrier is the way you can lock all boxes to trolley..... bit disapointed i cant lock my toughsystem 2.0 to the same trolley not entirely backward compatible
To back DeWalt decided to discontinue the high roof rack system to mount these units in a Transit Van. I've talked with DeWalt direct and nobody seems to know why
I use the 2.0. most of my work is outside and living in the uk becomes a problem. Yes the 2.0 keeps out water very well. Unfortunately if there is water on the lid of the bottom box, when you open it it runs off the lid and fills the box. Wasn’t happy powertools and water don’t really like each other.
I can't believe Dewalt would screw up like this. The ds carrier is far superior. To not include a locking latch on the back of the 2.0 boxes is plain stupid
@@kingofthecrease30 20 ridgid boxes. Oldest are going on 5 years old. Still going strong. Only problem is the little lock piece in the middle of the latch will bend.. you have to straighten it back out to get the latch to close. Also, have ripped the rubber off the side latches on my most used boxes, but they still latch and stay locked.
Ridgid has been great for me even though everything I use is DeWalt with a little Milwaukee in there. I just need drawers Ridgid. Just some drawers. Drawers. D-R-A-W-E-R-S.
If only someone could convince Dewalt to actually sell these to the public...... I wouldn’t have had to swap my 12 tough boxes for Milwaukee because the 1.0 have been getting so terrible I literally couldn’t click the new boxes together in the store...
I have 6 racks in my trailer full of the 1.0 boxes and use the ds carrier to haul whats needed to the job. Only things I don't have is the cooler and the radio. Cooler not needed as there is a frig in the trailer. Wish the radio would lock on the cart then I'd purchase it.
I have the tough tool bag system that have lots of pockets for all my different tools so I don't have dig around to find what tool I need. They don't interlock but they do stack and roll around.
