I'm still a huge 106 fan, and will probably never get rid of mine, or my jx3p. But this thing is very cool. Might have to pick one to add to the arsenal.
Chaps. Your playing always blows me away. You both have a similar vibe when just jamming out on poly patches and run through these absolutely fu€%!ng stunning chord progressions that just melt my brain. You know that face like someone’s farted but you love it?
Great fun genuine demo and chat… as always… I decided to wait for the Abyss 8… but you know how Ivam sold on this just now as many are… Happy new year and happy new music! (Hope to see you soon on the Studio Rats this year.👏🏻👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼)
Seems to me that if you enjoy comparing synths side by side then the Juno probably wins. If however you enjoy making music then either is perfectly fine 😉👍
Nymphes sounds like a 106 wrapped in a wool sock. Still has it's charm, of course. The warm, muted stuff in the 2nd half sounds quite lovely. Tal sounds nice, been using the Arturia thingy and it's pretty ace.

@@RoHen-pw5ol fair enough :) it's all subjective. 106 is definitely over priced but there's scarcity to consider. i'd go for a juno 6 if i had the money. don't need presets, prefer the pure analog path. anyway enjoy what you got or will get! happy new year :)
some folks sampled that chorus noise and made music out of it... (rhythm and Sound?:)... got juno 06a, and I keep the noise as it is.... actually noise is very useful in the music, and when you get into synthesis you notice how important part of the sound creation the noise is...

brilliant synth, i got mines yesterday after a 4month wait. I can get over the small menu dives for the convenience and the sound. one thing...Dearbox said themselves its actually pronounced Nymph-es, relating to Nymph, the Goddess of Nature. I dont know why they put an ES on the end either :)
Sincere question - was it ever trying to be a clone Otis it just trying to be true to own thing? I didn’t get the impression it was seeking to imitate anything?
It's own thing, but some of the architectural choices make it pretty easy to draw the comparison. 1 osc + a sub, osc can be saw + square, 6 voices. But really, the juno is so ubiquitous that it works its way into every conversation about a polysynth.
Well, I like the size of the small blue thingy, but I like the sound of the big black Rolland thingy. Though I couldn't afford it on my budget. Usually, I'm not able to pick up subtle differences in sounds others claim they could pick up. But in this case, I hear the difference loud and clear. That's not good.
Hi. Do you think it could be a good thing to replace my deepmind by this synth? I m looking for vintage sounds capabilities in such a small box. Or is there another synth with 6 voices in this category? Thx
I do think the Nymphes sounds good. I don't think the raw oscillators sound as good as the Juno. But for pads, ambient, or anything that doesn't need to be bright with crazy attack, I'm sure it would be more than adequate. I really like the sound of the Erebus/Nyx/Abyss but I'm much less captured by the sound of the Nymphes/Typhon/Medusa. One of my favorite synth companies, but a little hit-and-miss in terms of the sonics (for me anyways). I think they come out on the wrong side of corners cut to keep the price down sometimes. I also really dislike the shift functions, and sharing envelope pots.
scary again how much more musical and alive the Juno is.... no clue what that is. Modern synths can absolutely compete with the classics, new P5, Vermona Perfourmer, Minitaur, ACL Modular, MacBeth, all musical and vibey galore. Unfortunately many of the smaller analogues miss that these days, too bland too precise. Surely Dreadbox made a nice box for the price, which can serve many people well... but it´s not a 106/60 by a long shot (let alone something even more vibey like a Polysix), the size & space argument though...impressive indeed!
why not just use the tc electronic Juno chorus clone in pedal? it's cheap. listening on my studio monitor the nymphes sounds hugely different but more usable in a production / band context imo (less wooly bass).
Great video as always! Is it me or does it seem to be having trouble to hold the pitch? Especially in the 2nd test with suboscillator turned on it gets out of tune. Doesn't seem to be the case in Loopops video ... maybe a power supply issue?

I really don't understand the obsession with the 106. I sold them when they first came out. Was not impressed in the least. Now the 60, that was a synth.
Both are fantastic synths but in my opinion, the Alpha Juno 2 is the best Juno. sure it's not as bright sounding as the 106 but it still has that old-school Roland DCO sound. it also has one of the best oscillator sections on an analog synth. 4 different pulse waves 5 different saws with pulse width and 6 different subs. the envelopes are also better and the chorus. the only thing which lets it down a little is the filter.
This is the most useful video I've seen of the Nymphes, thank you for this. You just saved me £450!!! There's no body or bottom end to the sound at all, it sounds more like a modelled synth than a real analogue synth. So disappointed by it :-( I got a Deepmind 12D for just £20 more (also new) and while, admittedly, it's no prophet / oberheim, it sounds so much better for the money.
Wohhh..... Just looked up the price, no way for $600..... I'd just get a Roland boutique for $200 less, otherwise I'll just use the real thing. If we're talking "good enough", the Roland JU 06a is probably much closer

No. It is not even a clone of the 106. If we really have to try to understand how it sounds at the most it sounds like a 106 with a flue disease for how closed and dark it sounds.

@@RoHen-pw5ol I do not agree. Please listen carefully to the 106 at 3:39 and the Nymphs at 3:47. I've listened to these two clips over a dozen times, and something is definitely missing in the frequency range of the Nymphs, it certainly lacks some low ends, it sounds muffled. The Nymphs sound seems to be a bit cold compared to the fat rich sound of the 106.
I wasn't too impressed with the deepmind 12 after owning one for a while. i think it was because I listen to all the hype online and expected something a lot better. to me it didn't sound like a 106 its too grungy and not bright enough. its a case of you get what you pay for as far as the synth goes in my opinion. It a 12 voice 6 out of 10 poly and nothing more. but good for the money. the Behringers mono's lived up to the hype though for me. they sound just as good as anything in the high price range mono-wise the model d pro1 and the neutron are awesome synths.
