In 1997 I wrote my dissertation on 'Converting homes to home studios' Pre internent it was no master piece, but I've always had in mind how I'd love to do it, and watching this was spot on. Stunning room.

It's great! Carter, how awesome you share this great project with everyone, that says what a great musician and artist you are! Always making art and drumming with exceptional quality! the elements and materials are super well implemented! For future builders, I suggest you don't install parallel walls! The more parallel surfaces, the greater reverberation! A lot can be cut if the surfaces are not parallel! There is nothing between the ceiling and the floor that a good fluffy rug cannot solve... Although allow me to say something! I love how that kit sounds with the natural reverb hitting those walls!
Wowza! I've watched a lot of before/after vids of "studios" but this rocks them all! Doesn't hurt that you have made skills too. Thanks for sharing! Time to look into Mitch and his company also!

Man, that looks so good. It's making me ache to be able to just sit down and noodle around on my drums whenever I want and record music. That crazy little percussion kit you had at the end sounded great, too. And I just noticed your drum room is featured on the Audimute website, how cool!
13:03 that kit all around is so unique with the stacks and springs Etc. Looks so much fun to play ! i almost thought you were playing with an MPC pad with a clap sample or something but it was a stack.
Two questions: 1) What was the total cost of this remodel? 2) Can you list all of the pieces to the last drum set you played on? Those percussion pieces were SO COOL!!!
What a fantastic journey to get to a fantastic room. Not sure if this will be attainable (or a fraction of it) in my next house but somehow you made it seem so. I think I need to give Mitch a call and squash some of my own flutter echos. That was priceless!

Beautiful room! I really enjoyed watching this video. This was right up my alley as we just completed building a sound proof drum room out of one of our attics in our house. Now I have to build acoustic panels while we wait on the new drums to arrive.

I've been watching a bunch of "studio build up" in the past month as a research for a project after quarentine and this was the one with best sound isolation.. When I saw the wall covered in diffusers I thought "this guy is crazy, I want's to ear is own heart rate but let see the result". It was enormous and it looks pretty damn cool! As a sax player I only have one question, will all that isolation and difusing kill the higher harmonics of the sax/voice? In general it was great to watch but I would love to see videos instead of photos of the building process. Drums sounds incredibly sharp & thigh!! Subscribed!
Hey David... Highs still in the room due to AcoustiWood across from the Audimute Strata Cityscape wall (diffuser wall). I was careful to leave as much energy as possible that still allowed for clean recording. Carter is very picky. Please him with his new space is a high point in my acoustic career. 27 people thought buddy rich would have framed it differently. 😳🙄 I dream of this kind of set up. And so I’m always glad to see people do it. My drums have been held hostage for the last 11 weeks in our rehearsal place. I can’t play in the flat I’m in. So I’ll just have to wait.
Focus was on sound quality vs acoustic Isolation. With all the absorption there was less sound leaving the space. Peacemaker helped keep the sound off the structure (reduced structural resignation). I don’t believe we even put seals on the door... again...different objective. Glad to help if you have questions... Just reach out. I am so proud of Carter’s outcome!
