Oh they're definitely not a forgotten group, especially after their biopic aired on BET as a 3 night event. Then the entire cast performed that year at the BET awards. They finally got a star on the Hollywood walk of fame, started receiving their royalties and are still touring even now.

So you are right. New Edition is a legendary group, but they didn't really crossover like Boyz II Men. So definitely for white folks they are less well-known. But they are the blueprint for EVERY boyband that came after them. New Kids on the Block is basically a direct copy by the same dude who worked with New Edition, BIIM got their name from a NE song, and then all the white boybands in the 90s were basically a copy of NE and BIIM. So NE's hits are legion. On the R&B charts, they have 18 top 10s, 5 of which hit #1. That's out of about 25 singles. So basically nearly every single song they have released was a hit. That's practically unheard of. So in the original lineup, Ricky and Bobby sing lead on a handful of songs. Both sing more lead later on the reunion album, Home Again. There is only one song in their entire catalog where all 5 of the original members - Ronnie, Bobby, Ricky, Mike and Ralph - sing lead: Popcorn Love. You will see each of them do their parts in the video for it. It's also the only song where Mike sings lead at all. Ronnie sings short leads on a few songs, most notably "Oh Yeah, It Feels So Good" and "Hot2Nite"

Johnny Gill was not an original member of New Edition. He joined the group when Bobby Brown was kicked out. However, when he did join the group, he gave them a more grown-up sound, hint the song (Boys to Men).

Without New Edition, there would be no Boyz II Men. The 3 "backup" singers, Ronnie, Ricky and Mike make up another badass group, Bell Biv Devoe. Mike (Biv) discovered Boyz II Men, who were named after the New Edition song by the same name. I'd 100% name NE over B2M any day. And Jodeci over B2M too! (for me)

Y'all are so used to this microwave music that y'all have no idea back then, the videos were just as important as the songs. People started getting even more creative with the videos as time went on. They would do costume changes for different scenes. Gah lee lmao

Wrong! Ignorance is bliss. Who do you think discovered Boys II Men? A member of New Edition, Michael Bivins, also of Bell Biv Devoe (BBD). They're not a forgotten group. If you're born in the 80's you're gonna say Boys To Men but NE was the first of the modern day boy bands then everyone else you know of today followed.

Do your research on their music before you react to it... At least learn their names...
