Hey Tom - Truth be told I was not the biggest fan of this tool UNTIL all my neighbors started to tell me how good my lawn was looking. The final nail in the coffin was my wife complimenting me. Once you use it a few times you can zip along the sidewalk and it looks pro+. You have to get the blower next - trust me.
I bought the back pack blower 2 months ago and my PHU Kit ($399 @ HD) is due on the 30th. We are tired of the B&D string trimmer. We go through a spool ($9) every weekend. It's insane. I've spent close to $150 in spools this year alone. Yes I do have to go back over a few areas in the lawn, but the light weight and no exhaust fumes are worth it. I have COPD and I was paying someone to cut my lawn. Now I can do it myself. Seems to be helping with my COPD too now that I'm getting some exercise. USAF Retired
Hey Tom - yeah, if you don't use it you lose it is very true. Reach out to me if you have any questions about the weed wacker - I have been using mine for 4 years - completely dialed.
I finally got my Power Unit Kit (edger & string trimmer) and they are awesome. My only comments are, they are unbelievably high quality, but with that comes heft. They are heavier then my old corded B&D gear, you really need to make sure the attachments are completely seated into the PU shaft. Love my EGO lawn care gear.
I noticed the weight of the trimmer at first too. After using for about a month I just got used to it and appreciate the speed and great look this gives my yard.
Just saw HD has a combo pack for $399 - power head w/5amp battery and standard charger, edger and trimmer. It's on-line only right now. Gonna order today. Finally.
I just bought their 21" SP mower with the 7.5 amp battery. On my first cut I completed about 90% of my yard before the battery died. That was about an hour of cutting. Plan on buying the new 575CFM blower that comes with the 5 amp battery. Should be enough batteries to power the Power Head unit.
I think I have an Ego problem. I got the lawnmower after watching your VID and then I went and got the backpack blower, hedge trimmer, and the string trimmer. I love them all. I'm trying not to buy the edger, but every time I do my lawn I think the line looks straight, but it might look better with the ego edger
My garage indicated I have the same problem too. If you are going to get the edger (and I recommend that) get the power head so that you can buy the trimmer for it to.
i already have the trimmer, so I'd be paying 250 just for the edger. I have a sun joe pole saw that I like, so I wouldn't get the pole saw attachment. I am going to get the 16" saw too. I live in Atlanta, so there is absolutely nothing I can do with a snow blower. Once i have the 16" saw, I will have everything they make, I believe except for the edger.
so got the edger on weekend road trip. only thing you got to do is add graase in the head every one in while. i think they did that to all the attachments. not bad idea. I'm glad i looked at hand book
Cool tool, definitely beats edging with a weed wacker that never comes out straight, hopefully my neighbor will let me borrow his sometime as I can never afford these types of luxuries. Thanks for the great demo mon/mate.
This are on clearance now as tool only at Orange Store my weedy lawn is framed by wavy brick just above the sidewalk line an inch ..so would have to use reversed . What interest me though..I have Iceplant literally growing into the street and there is no easy way to cut because of the layers upon layers . The lower layer is like a brown dead ropey vine ..Was going to try and attach a fixed blade to string trimmer but this Metal Edger looks better ..What do you Think KITE ARMY Andrew ??
I have their mower, blower and trimmer. I like they included charger and battery, so we can multitask - son does lawn and I do trimmer. multiple chargers and batteries allows us to do. reason this is cheaper is they will get u on the battery and charger, means they are now getting pricey.
Ego has never been the cheap guy....but if you work it right, I like that you can buy the tools bare (without battery). At some point your have more batteries than is practical to use.
I own one of these edger's and I can inform you that the blades are not 8 inches in length. The correct measurement is 7 & 11 16th inches and that's well under more than 1/4 inch shorter than specified. The blades are exactly the same as Stihl and Echo and many other brands and are a lot cheaper at least by 60% cheaper. Even the centre hole is the same 1" as most other tools of this kind so have a good look around before you purchase the EGO brand edger blade.
great vid bud exactly info needed keep up great work please try to find or where to find best budget options what you did was great I really like the info given 👍👍👍👍👍
i get a cleaner edge using worx 2and1 trimmer and edger and was only 75 bucks..dont want to edge like u do in the video and have to pick up dirt...no need to switch attachments...i do a perfect line too and cut either deep in the soil or just trim grass str8,,this is just for curbs....wont edge out a mulching area
Great point...BUT it turns out that after trimming with this edger twice it gets so easy and looks great - something that I never could achieve with a trimmer
Just to let everyone know, Ego+ is also available on Amazon, but like anything on amazon buyer beware. You never know what it is you’re really buying on amazon sometimes.
The Home Depot is the main distributor for Ego products, but Home Depot sucks and they never have anything available in store vs what they claim to stock online. I threw Amazon out there for people who aren’t having any luck buying Ego through HD.
The accessories are very good; however, what good are they if you cannot get them? Home Depot is the only distributor that is advertised to my knowledge; therefore, much of these items are NOT sold in their stores, and the on-line is of no help because the item seems to be always OUT OF STOCK.
I'm taking delivery of my first EGO tool tomorrow; the 580 blower with battery and charger. It wasn't available in the store (upstate NY) so I ordered it online ($60 cheaper than the Amazon machine). It will have taken 9 days to ship from California to this store. I placed the order on a Monday evening and It took two days for them to just create the shipping label, and then after a stagecoach transit across our beloved continent it sat in a UPS facility in Syracuse for over 24 hours. I suspect it will be ready for pickup tomorrow well after noon so another day lost, unless this model has the headlight. But shipping was free. I guess my point is, I wish I'd had another alternative to purchase from.
yes, HD is out of stock online on some attachments. Im looking for the 10" saw for reaching my higher small branches. If you go into HD and ask to special order they can only go online where they get the same message out of stock. hmm, stores dont have any extra order privilege over customers. I can find psa1000 pole saw in Europe but not in America. It makes me wonder if all the pole saws have been pulled from stock because of issues. Like even maybe a newer update. Have you heard anything more about this? Bad time to Just be out of stock with all the yard cleanups going on.
Question. I was looking for edger and black and decker has a cord one but it mentions trencher. Can this trench like the one from black and decker or worx?
Yeah, true. But just not sure why they add trencher in the marketing and what does it do that this couldn't. Maybe you could see the other edger and give an opinion?
Thanks, but you sort of glossed over the battery--how much are they? Price, is power head, battery and choice of attachment. For those three, what would be the total price and do you think that price is worth it?
I like the idea of attachments but their regular trimmer + 2.5 battery is $149 at HD right now. I would love a real edger but it doesn't seem worth it to get into this system, it seems crazy expensive in comparison.
@Kite Army - Hi Andrew - question - have you ever changed this blade? I went to pull the split pin out of mine to change it and it broke. When I looked in the edger box that it came in there was neither a replacement cotter/split pin nor a multifuntion wrench. Even after getting it out, I was still unable to disassemble the blade housing. I called Ego and they said that they would send a replacement (YES!) but when I asked if they could suggest a video on how to replace the blade (because I'm still having a problem removing the assembly and I don't know what's wrong) they directed me to your channel - only I don't see a video on how do it. So, have you ever changed it? If so, did you make a video on it because it's much needed and I don't see any other channel showing how to specifically change an ego blade. Hope you respond! Thanks!
It did feel different from other EGO tools that have the motor near the business end. But in terms of vibration, nothing that I would say was note worthy.
How's the weight and balance compared to other weed whackers that have the motor near the trimmer head? Any fatigue from holding it compared to others? Also, what do you think of the newly designed safety? It's quite a bit different than previous models that basically have a trigger on top and a trigger on the bottom.
Great question....Having the motor at the back does change the ergonomics a bit. If I run this tool with the 5Ah I notice the extra weight...otherwise no problem
Paris Lady I was worried it was going to be too heavy so I ended up buying just their regular trimmer with rapid reload head. Not the lightest string trimmer but incredibly powerful and the weight is so balanced that I have zero fatigue
"You can buy the powerhead...." LOL. Been trying to buy the power head and trimmer/edger for months. I'm about to give up, Ego is really screwing up on this product with it's supply chain and HD exclusivity.
Ego battery is a scam. All of my 4 packs died the same day. Puzzled me a while. I find out that the TI battery management chips inside the pack not making charge after certain usage which is roughly about when the warranty running out. Almost $1000 worth of batteries are PoS now. PLEASE DON'T buy EGO
You should have bought from a dealer and you would have been satisfied with EGO. Never buy from a box store like Home Depot. Let the dealer deal with any of your issues that you have and they will always be resolved as long as its within the warranty period.
