Hi, my name is Jen I am 44 and live in Connecticut with my husband and 8 year old son. I am a stay-at-home Mom and full-time RU-vidr with a degree in business with a focus in marketing. Before leaving work when my son was born, I was a commercial lender at a bank. I also worked at Sephora and Macy's doing visual merchandising.
I have dry skin with some hyperpigmentation and fine lines. I love natural makeup looks but occasionally go outside my comfort zone a little bit. Jen, I literally never comment on videos, however, I feel compelled to tell you that you DO NOT apply make up in a weird way. Reddit is a great place to go if you want to be torn down. State a negative opinion about someone on Reddit and people will agree because it's a toxic, negative space and that's all. Feeling better about yourself after being on Reddit is the exception, not the rule. Especially if you have a public presence. Jen is 46 and looks amazing, sorry to say it but of course there are people who are happy to chime in on some ridiculous criticism 😒

@@JenPhelps😮I wasn't even aware that people apparently are pathetic enough to bully you over the way you apply your make up or hold your brushes or sponges. That's a weird observation to begin with. I personally like the fact that you apply make up with a light hand. And besided even if you did have a robotarm why do they care to refer to that? So if someone out there would have a physical disability they're not allowed to start a channel or I don't get it to be honest...? Can't believe they have never better to come up with then something that weird to comment. That being said, I've also tried this foundation. I have more of a medium complexion with neutral olive undertone and their shade range is so strange! Their cool undertones are basically peach (almost every peachy shade looks way to pink on me but I know it looks to orange on people with actual pink undertones). And their yellow undertones turn orange (oxidize). Why can't they make some real neutral, pink, yellow, peach and olives? Why is everything so orangey? I bought shades 24 light warm, 23 light cool and now ordered 22 light warm. Cause 24 was oxidizing (not to dark just to orange) and 23 was to peachy pink so hopefully 22 will work on me. In worst case scenario I can add some blue pigment to neutralize the yellow. But I do agree that this specific foundation in terms of the finish and feel is amazing.

I don’t think you hold the tools in an odd way. I actually find the way you apply things to be very soothing (maybe the bracelets provide ASMR for my brain). Your tone and presentation is the most natural in the beauty space in my opinion.

In my opinion you are the best “beauty guru” on RU-vid. You try almost everything new very quickly. Your reviews are completely honest. Your knowledge of make up and comparisons of makeup are astounding. You’re kind and genuine. That anyone would find fault is crazy to me especially on something so trivial. I literally just created a reddit account last night for the first time and beauty guru chat was the first topic I checked out... oh my gosh. Im 41 and not used to this kind of negativity and criticism that people throw around from the anonymous comfort of behind their screens. People seem to find anything to pick on or any reason to "cancel" someone. You are a brave person for putting yourself out there. I appreciate all your work!

Agreed! People are way to critical and just plain nasty when they have a computer screen to hide behind! I like the Beauty Guru chatter forum for certain things and like chatting back and forth with most people. And I’ve only ever seen positive things about Jen on there so it surprises me to hear multiple people agreed with that comment! But, at the same time, I’m not surprised because on Beauty Guru Chatter, a lot of comments and posts can be petty or super negative. Like I saw one not to long ago complaining about something and I commented like, this is a weird thing to be complaining about and a ton of people agreed with me. But I also feel like people go with the crowd sometimes on there too. Like whatever the first few commenters said, the others go with that. Like if the first few comments are positive, most of the people who comment after are positive. If first few were negative, most of the rest will be negative. Of course, that’s not always the case. But it sure kind of seems that way a lot of the time!

One of the reasons I feel you're an amazing person is the fact that you can read Reddit comments and not get offended or defensive, and you don't snap back at people. The way you're doing anything is not "weird". I didn't notice it at all until this video where you're demonstrating the motion and it does seem to be a very light touch. What has happened here is that all it takes is one person to say "I saw a purple people eater running down the street" and before you know it, 10,000 other people on the street that say Also saw a purple people eater, even tho one never existed. I love the fact that you can take criticism and look at it objectively (even if it's a criticism about absolutely nothing) and go as far as ask for your audiences' opinions. Your connection to the viewers is palpable. This is what best friends do with each other - {"does my arm really look like a robot arm?"} And bff says "well yeah now that you mention it, yeah" - bff starts calling you the bionic woman while laughing hysterically with each other. 😂😂. You're truly an amazing person with a very kind soul. I'm so glad I found your channel! ❤❤❤

I've never noticed how you hold your brushes. I'm here to learn your recommendations for dry skin. You're the only one I've found that really understands dry skin. WOW that eyeshadow makes your eyes POP and look so GORGEOUS! You apply like your makeup just fine. I don’t know what others are seeing that I don’t. I always order the fair cool shade in any foundation. If it’s ever to light I just add bronzer and it’s fine. I can’t wait to get my fair cool foundation seeing how lively it looks on you. I have to say that I am shocked that no one but you really talks about Miss A. What a great brand. I have just done two large hauls and there is nothing that I do not love. You do not hold your tools in a weird way. I wondered for awhile what the “clinking” noise was, but finally realized it is your bracelets. I usually have an aversion to noises but for some reason, I like listening to your bracelets tap together. You are a great beauty guru! Love your videos.

Your makeup is stunning today Jen! Those application tips from Rose Marie Swift are gold. You definitely look more youthful. And everything you used today just flattered you so much, you look so pretty and summery! Ignore the trolls on reddit. You don't hold your tools weird. A bunch of people focused on how someone holds their sponge or beauty tools is weird, not you. I subscribed to your channel years ago, along with many other beauty youtubers, but you are the only one I still watch after all this time. You're authentic and honest I don't just enjoy your videos, I learn so much from them too!

I have been watching you for several years and never once thought you were applying oddly. People find the oddest things to talk about. LOVE the foundation...not usually an Elf fan but going to try it. Would absolutely LOVE to see an RMS video. So interested in the tinted sunscreen and really all of it! EDIT: forgot to mention how amazing the bronzer and blush look - really youthful and fun.

When a foundation is too light or dark, you can mix one with the other by drops to get a color that might be perfect. I just recently got 3 of the elf glam and played with mixing and them to get my perfect color. You can do this with any foundation if you can't get the right color for you. This is an excellent foundation. Milani Conceal and Perfect is another excellent foundation.... Its really good.
